Where to find an inspired slice of pie?

CGarner, your post reminded me that Griggstown Quail Farm (near Princeton, but at the headhouse market and others) has some very good fruit pies as well!

Geez, really? I admit I never cared for MM, but there are so many other options now I can't imagine choosing it

dining solo in philly

Osteria and Alla Spina, both Vetri places on North Broad near Fairmount Ave, are good for solo diners. I agree about Serpico (not familiar with solo dining at the others agozoic recs.

Where to find the best cherries in Philadelphia area?

on Sunday, Dave from Beechwood Farms said he'd have cherries at this week's farmers market (old City today) but likely not at Sunday's headhouse.

Where to find the best cherries in Philadelphia area?

They still had lots of Cherries at last week's Headhouse farmers market - but Beechwood at least said it may be the last week. Three Springs didn't say.

Country Ham in Philly?

Check out Fair Food Farms - this time of year they might have to order one for you but it would only take a couple of days

Looking for a foodie gift in Emerald Isle

Family heading to Emerald Isle and we'd like to send them a foodie gift to thank them for joining us for a very special occasion right before they were leaving. Is there a wonderful cheese shop that would do a tray or basket? A great bakery that we could get a breakfast basket from? A restaurant that is a must do? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

In Need of Recommendations for Philadelphia Tasting Menus

Fork and Zahav come to mind, but if you search this board for "tasting menu" there are about 4 recent discussions that come up.

Last minute cocktail snack ideas, please!

Do you have a decent Italian deli? Get one big piece of your favorite cheese and assorted antipasti - salami, marinated artichokes, olives, roasted red peppers, whatever else looks good!I also do the same thing from a local greek establishment - hummus, babaganoush, dolmades, feta and spanakopita.

Citizens Bank Park food?

I actually think Harry the K's is a good option, decent food, sit down and cocktails as well as beer

Graduation Lunch Center City Area

You might consider Beau Monde Creperie at 6th and Bainbridge. You can usually get street parking but there is a lot nearby and you can build your own crepes as well as have salads and some appetizers. I have always been able to feed everyone in the crowd there, but people with more sophisticated palates can make some interesting combos.

Seeking fresh fava beans

I agree about Iovine's in the Reading Terminal. I have not seen any local ones yet - they should be coming soon.

Liverwurst/Braunschweiger with*out* bread/crackers

I like it spread on radishes - works especially well if you can get watermelon radishes or green radishes (just because of the size!)

Rhubarb

I make a rhubarb syrup (rhubarb, water, sugar simmered until the rhubarb is very soft) that I use for cocktails (with Vodka, cointreau and a little lemon juice). The rhubarb that is left over when I strain the syrup is a great spread for bread or even on top of ice cream.

What to you miss from your neighborhood "old school" Bakery?

We are lucky in Philadelphia to have a lot of old school bakeries around, mostly Italian and German

Dark Russian Rye - even places that say they make it don't make it as dark and dense as i remember it!
