If you've been to Laurel, how did you get a reservation?

Deluca, we are going tonight and hope we won't have a similar experience - we loved our previous visit. Any wine suggestions?

Taking a break from "new American" "French tavern" & "farm to table"

In an article on Philly.com today about Valley Shepard making Haloumi(sp) they talk to chef and say the new Kanella should open by the end of the month.

The windows are actually papered, not boarded and there has been more activity there recently - I walk my dogs by there with some regularity. Also, I am fairly certain it was Michael Klein who reported that they had job postings/a job fair recently.

Bad experience Legal Seafood King of Prussia

If you can fry them yourself, you can get them at Ippolito's in S Phila

I second a number of the previous suggestions but would add E Mei for Szechuan

Downey's on South Street - closing

It closed back in 2011/2012 and reopened maybe six months later. The OP is old

Philly overnight with kids

Since you'll be at Sesame Place I am not sure this would be useful, but Franklin Square - between 6th and 7th street and between Race and Vine Streets has a beautiful carousel, a miniature golf course with the holes being city attractions (Love Park, Independence Hall, etc), a playground, and Square Burger - a Stephen Starr run burger shack where the burgers are the size of a regular hamburger bun, not a huge oversize burger. I really like them! (limited menu of burgers, hot dogs and salad along with milkshakes)

Perceptions in taste, not preferences

Definitely genetics has a role - I "over taste" sugar and really dislike it - especially its aftertaste. I read salsa, sauces, etc to see of there is sugar added because I can, and will, taste it. I will say something is sweet and people look at me like I am crazy. Sweet fresh fruit is as sugary as I go. The reverse is also true - I enjoy sour/tart/bitter flavors that others describe as too tart, etc.
Another issue that comes into play with fresh food (e.g. eatingjoy's watermelon) is that supermarket produce is picked before it is ripe and stored for ages. Try that same food from the farmers market (with real farmers) - it will have an amazingly different taste - think winter tomatoes vs. August Jersey Tomatoes! Hard to get peachy overtones from a February peach, let alone a bottle of wine!

Papaya

A quick google suggests it is Thai/small plates. No menu posted though that I could see.

Old Fashioned Hot Dogs with a Snap!

Have you tried the hot dogs from Wursthaus Schmitz in the RTM - they are the only hot dogs I get - thin, long and snappy! Haltemann's used to carry good ones but they stopped because they became too expensive.

Tela's Market and Kitchen: A Neighborhood Find

I work nearby (Broad and Fairmount) and while I only have had one lunch from there (which I enjoyed, I just don't go out for lunch much) I pick up meats, seafood etc for dinner about once a month and the quality is always spot on.

Bridal Shower Venue Recommendations

If you have a favorite BYOB that is only open for dinner you should try calling them and see if they will do a lunch/brunch for you. Check Radicchio on 4th Street in Old City - they seem to be in your price range and they do private parties.

Reading Market - Purchasing Meat

Both the Fair Food Farmstand and LaDivisa meats in the RTM carry humanely(pastured, grass fed, etc) raised meats exclusively. Fair Food Farmstand meats are frozen, La Divisa's aren't. If you want specific cuts call ahead (a week for out of the ordinary cuts)
