Can you give example of cheaper restaurant with the same thing, please?

The Market at Santa Monica Place

Great meatloaf sandwich at The Curious Palate although way overpriced. They also do that thing I hate where they charge like another $3.50 for a soda. Pet peeve of mine.

Also had the Rockenwagner Ahi tuna sandwich and mac n' cheese souffle. Both mediocre.

Good beet salad?

Father's Office. It's a similar preparation to the one you describe.

You can't beat beets and beer!

Okay folks, I’ve decided to take the plunge ... Korean food. Where to begin?

My favorite is Beverly Soon Tofu. I eat it all the time. Usually get the mushroom beef version.

Definitely try Ondal 2. The spicy crab soup is amazing and with all the side dishes makes for a real feast. Best if you have 3 or more people since the smallest size is rather large.

One Dinner if Cost is no object in L.A.

How the hell can so many people afford to eat at Urasawa all the time? I will have to save up 10 years before eating there.

I really like A Frame, but I have 2 complaints…

Haha. That's totally racist... and lame anyways. What does Dr. Dre have to do with burgers? Does he even eat burgers?

Make sure to try their Edward James Almos East LA burrito.

Redondo Beach Pier Seafood?

Just went there for the first time a week ago. Really cool spot. Ate at Pacific Fish Center, the one with a sign of a crab with Korean writing. Had fish and chips, fried scallops, snow crab legs. All delicious.

Not sure I understand the popularity of Quality Seafood. I didn't eat there, so maybe the food is better, but the atmosphere seems like it sucks. It's under the pier on the boardwalk, so you don't really get an ocean view. More of a view of the little boat inlet and the parking garage. And it kinds of smells over there.

Could someone explain why you would pick Quality over one of the ocean view places up on the Pier?

What Is America's Worst Restaurant Chain?

This is crazy talk. White Castle's are delicious!!!! I find that people seem to love them or hate them but put me in the LOVE category.

I nominate Red Lobster. Everything I've ever had there has been frighteningly awful.

My dad eats only hamburgers. I eat everything. He’s paying. Where to go?

Great replies so far everyone. Thanks! I'll have to check out some of these menus online. I love FO but they may be the only restaurant who won't accept a "plain" request.

As to the origin of why my father likes a plain hamburger only, it remains a mystery.

best *vegetarian* bean & cheese burrito in LA??

Definitely check out Plancha which is on 3r st. and Sweetzer near the beverly center. Really tasty. I get the carne asada but my wife gets the bean and it's one of the only ones she has found that she likes.

Her favorite bean burrito is at Gallego's on Venice in the Mar Vista area.

The Six on Pico--Good?

B+. I was with party of 8 and everyone said their dishes were pretty good. But not amazing. Can't remember the menu but burger was good and chicken was good.

My dad eats only hamburgers. I eat everything. He’s paying. Where to go?

I’m a struggling writer who loves food but rarely gets to eat out. My parents are coming for the weekend so I’m looking forward to going to some real restaurants. Unfortunately my dad’s palate is extremely limited. Burgers or steak. That’s it. No sauce on those either. I love anything and everything from sushi to Ethiopian.

So my question is: What are some really interesting restaurants with great food that also have a burger or steak on the menu? (medium price level). For example, I think Lazy Ox Canteen is a good pick because they have a varied gourmet menu but they also have a burger.

Din Tai Fung.... black truffle XLB??

For what it's worth, I had the truffle/pork XLB at DTF in Hong Kong a few weeks ago. And while it's delicious, I preferred the standard pork XLB.

Ojai

Food at Azu was pretty good. It does seem all the food in Ojai was just average. However the service at Azu was horrible. Our waiter was very rude for no reason. I got the impression from a lot of the locals in Ojai that they don't really like tourists that much. Weird.

HELP! Cheap (but good) eats in Beverly Hills near Wilshire & La Cienega?

I live right near the intersection of Willaman and Wilshire and walking is not a very good option. If you want to walk 10-15 minutes, or take a short drive, there are some solid cheap eats. I recommend Al Gelato (great meatball sandwich, south of wilshire on Robertson); Gyu-Kaku (La Cienega north of wilshire); and my top pick in the area for cheap eats: Chili Addiction on La Cienega north of Beverly Blvd. It's seriously delicious gourmet chili. I've been going there so often I feel a little embarassed to see the owners.

West Hollywood - Help Make this B-day Dinner for a Group of 10 the Best Dirty 30 ever!

Baby blues is definitely the best option for you. Super close to Lubitsch, great food, fun atmosphere, and one of the few decent places in the area that fits your price range.

Langer's: The Next Step

Delicious corned beef sandwich. I also generally prefer corned beef to pastrami, although at Langer's it's a tossup.

Ramen without pork? Where can it be found?

Ramen-ya near Sawtelle in West LA has a couple (I think). There is one with corn and tofu and egg-drop soup as the base.

Korean crab place - Olympic at Harvard Ave?

I've been to this and Ondal 2. I thought Ondal 2 was a little bit better flavor and had friendlier service (speaking as a white guy). But both are delicious. And the blinking neon crab sign is cooler.

Also, watch your spice level here. I didn't specify and I found it outrageously spicy. Spicier than the stuff at Jitlada IMO.

Haagen Dazs Fleur de Sel Caramel ice cream

Got it at Von's on National near Roberts Blvd. It's so delicious! The pomegranate chip is also really good.

Pico Robertson Area..any local bars/ taverns?

I live close by. Closest good bar imo is 3rd Stop on 3rd street East of Robertson. Good beer selection on tap and decent food. St. Nick's, also on 3rd, is a good dive bar usuallly with lots of younger people. Also El Carmen further East on 3rd st.

Great Seafood Place in Los Angeles

Malibu seafood has one very delicious item: Fried Scallops. I don't care much for their fried fish but fried scallops and decent french fries combined with fun beach shack atmosphere make for a solid day by the ocean.

Mozza - what to orda?

Concur on the bianca pizza with added sausage. Our bartender told us this is what all the staff order after hours. It's unbelievable. Also recommend getting the Mussells in white wine/garlic sauce then dipping your crusts in the sauce (because the pizzas can always use more oily, garlicky goodness!). And of course the best dessert ever Butterscotch Budino.

As with all things sandwich related, BAY CITIES DELI, has the best tuna salad sandwich I've had in LA. So many good choices there it's hard to decide!

I was just thinking of Baby Blues. If their idea of good BBQ is Chili's Baby Back Ribs or something similar, then they are in for a pleasant suprise.

Mexican Street Food - Breed St. and E. Cesar Chavez - Anyone been recently?

I went a few weekends ago. Still in effect. Pretty tasty. Although for the distance (if you live on the westside) for the food quality I would be just as happy going to Grand Central Market downtown.

Honda Ya in Little Tokyo is a really fun Japanese spot with lots of good small plates to share and a great atmosphere for a party and drinking lots of Japanese beer.

Yabu on La Cienega near Beverly is pretty good. Decent sushi and some fun cooked items and noodles. Also, much better atmosphere there than Katsuya. They have a nice garden patio.
