Best (Funniest? Wittiest?) Food Quotes

"There is one thing more exasperating than a wife who can cook & won't, that's a wife who can't cook & will." ~ Robert Frost

What are you a stubborn purist about?

Steak: Very rare, or rare. Overcooked any other way.

Taco seasoning: Its gotta be homemade! I abhor those god awful taco seasoning kits. That brings up...

No pre-fab taco shells or tortilla chips: The store bought versions are practically flavorless and loaded with salt. Make them at home once and you'll never look back.

Chili: No beans, ever. As the old adage goes: 'If you know beans about chili, you know chili ain't got no beans.

Real maple syrup: It almost brought a tear to my eye when my boyfriend claimed Log Cabin was the best syrup out there.

What are you a stubborn purist about?

YES! Any time when we my boyfriend and I eat veggies, he always adds a dollop of butter on them. If we are eating canned veggies that need to be microwaved, he will add a tablespoon or so of butter before they're nuked. Even on peas. PEAS! They are deliciously buttery enough. Drives me nuts!

I guess what really bothers me is the fact that he doesn't like any kind of veggie or fruit in its pure form. He's really picky about them as it is. What's annoying is when he won't eat carrots unless they're glazed or smothered in blue cheese, or can't eat strawberries if they're not coated in sugar.

Strange allergic reaction when prepping shrimp

Let me start off with saying I have have never been allergic to shrimp, and have always eaten shellfish with no problems. With that being said:

Yesterday night I was peeling and deveining some shrimp I had gotten from my butcher a few weeks ago for some jambalaya I was making. A few minutes into the process my hands start itching a bit. I didn't think much of it, and continued. I took a short break after I was finished, and my hands were stinging, red, and itchy. A few minutes later, I broke out with hives on my left hand! Fortunately, everything was back to normal in about half an hour.

Again, Im confused because I've never had any kind of reaction to shellfish. In fact, I ate the jambalaya that night and was totally fine. (Stupid, I know, but it was calling my name!) I will say, however, that this my first time really preparing shrimp. Before this, I had always purchased bagged frozen shrimp that was peeled and deveined so I had minimal contact with it.

What gives? Has this ever happened to anyone? Is it possible that Im developing a shellfish allergy this late in life? God, no...that would totally suck!

Cozy, Romantic INDIAN Restaurant for First Date

Hi there,

Im taking a special lady to an Indian restaurant for our first date next week. She loves Indian cuisine, but Im new to it - so I definitely need some advice! I was wondering if anyone knows where I can take her for some great authentic Indian - none of this fusion nonsense, just some down-to-earth Indian cooking. I want something cozy, romantic, and memorable. I prefer something in Manhattan - UWS, Chelsea/Flatiron, or Midtown East would be ideal. Queens is great too - Astoria, Forest Hills, anywhere in that vicinity. We can travel to other areas or boroughs, too. Price is not as important as the quality of the meal, but I don't want to spend a week's salary on the dinner! Suggestions, anyone? Thanks in advance!
