Elyssa's Profile
Bourbon Steak
What did you order? I've only been to the bar and lunch but have been thinking about this place as a special occasion spot sometime in the future and am wondering if it's worth it.
I went for Restaurant Week lunch a few years ago and thought it was really well done.
Heritage India Dupont closing May 31st to relocate
I really like it. I've never actually dined in the restaurant--I've only gotten take out. But I've loved everything I've ordered from there. Their butter chicken is so good that when all the chicken is gone I still keep the sauce to eat with rice. :)
DC Interns gotta eat
Cava is a good, fun choice. Make sure to get the zucchini fritters....so delicious!
Another place to consider is Zorba's for delicious Greek platters on the cheap.
Looking for ideas for a celebratory dinner within an easy distance to the Supreme Court,
This is very cool! Congrats!
Not that far from the Court is Cental. If you have enough people it might make sense to rent out their great private room. Wonderful American bistro cuisine with french-style cooking and lots of fun dishes to please just about any palette.
Heritage India Dupont closing May 31st to relocate
Interesting. Too bad because that place was quite good and near my apartment. Although honestly I had been getting take out from Dalchinni more often these days. And now with Rasika nearby as well, I can see why they might want to relocate.
I hope something awesome goes in to that space. It's a pretty prime location. It would be tragic if it became another Potbelly or CVS.
Eloping in DC
Congrats! How exciting! I would go to the Source or Equinox. Both are wonderful places to celebrate where they will treat you like VIPs. Wonderful wine programs and interesting food.
If you let the restaurants know ahead of time what you are celebrating I'm sure they'll make it an experience to remember.
Bonus--the President and First Lady have dined at both locations, which makes for a fun story---as if eloping isn't a story enough. :)
Near Fairmont Hotel, Washington, DC
I like Hank's a lot as well but it probably would be a 25/30 minute walk from the Fairmont (depending on how fast you walk).
Near Fairmont Hotel, Washington, DC
I would go to Ris. I love it there. If it's nice out, you can sit outside. The feeling is laid back and the food and drinks are always delicious! It's walking distance to your hotel.
Lunch options nearby is Pizzeria Paradisio (there is a Dupont location and one in Georgetown--you can walk to both), Roti (near GW...I'm obsessed with this place), Sweetgreen for good salads.
Dinner--The new Rasika is near your restaurant. I haven't tried it yet but I'm sure it's delicious. District Common is not far from you-I've had 2 meals there so far and really enjoy it.
Looking for dinner that specializes in adorable, miniature, tiny, or bitesize in DC
Oh good idea!
Any new cheap eats discoveries around DC?
This is my go to Chinese food restaurant and I love it (although I'm not sure if I would describe it as near GW...it's more in the Farragut/K Street area). It's pretty affordable and the best Chinese food I've found in DC proper.
Looking for dinner that specializes in adorable, miniature, tiny, or bitesize in DC
You can go to the Source. Both their dim sum brunch and some of the items on their bar menu are miniature.
Also PS7 would work. Tiny tuna tartar sliders, homemade mini hot dogs and ban mi....all delicious.
One night in Alexandria...
I would go to the Majestic or Virtue Feed and Grain. For really high end, go to Restaurant Eve!
Great places near Washington Hilton?
I would head up towards Adams Morgan and go to Mintwood. This is a new restaurant that does American/French bistro food really, really well. It should be fun with a small group and will be a nice break from the hotel.
Your Top 10-12 favorite DC Metro restaurants?
This is in no particular order (and probably changes on a regular basis) but:
Graffiato
Bibianna
Equinox
Central
Bistro D'Oc
The Source
Estadio
Cork
Sichuan Pavilion
Taylor's Gourmet
Ris
Bar Pilar
From my list you can probably tell I actually love the small plates craze! :)
Dinner Recs in The Silver Spring Area
Ray's the Classics is definitely the way to go. Make sure to order the creamed spinach with any steak you order (I like the hanger steak---best version of this dish in the city). And also you MUST get the key lime pie for dessert.
This is a great, laid-back, affordable steakhouse, which also somehow still keeps a nice neighborhood feel to it.
Room 11?
I went to Room 11 for brunch on Sunday and loved every aspect of my experience. This is the type of restaurant that makes you want to move to a neighborhood just so you can become a regular.
The outdoor seating is great, especially on a sunny day. The service was friendly and on point for everything I needed (thanks Gavin!). And most importantly the food was good. I got their daily quiche (which if I remember correctly was spinach, carmelized onions and something else---maybe mushrooms? And of course cheese). It came with a nice light side salad which had herbs and pinenuts in it---a nice touch. I also got a coffee (comes in a French press with 2 cups of coffee) and a pear/champagne cocktail which was delicious.
It wasn't overly crowded (really can't figure out why! I got there right at a 11 and only a couple of tables filled up by the time I left. Maybe the word isn't out yet about this place) so they let me stay and relax a little with my coffee after I paid the check.
I will definitely be back enjoying this place throughout the summer.
Dinner near Newseum
The Source is right next door and wonderful----but I would never describe it as reasonably priced.
A few other options: Central, Jaleo, Sei, or Hill Country BBQ.
ISO downtown DC restaurant with gluten free free menu
Firefly has a gluten free menu (check their website). Really cute place for a graduation party---definitely make reservations though since it not that large of a restaurant.
I also think I might have seen a gluten free menu at the Hamilton...although call and double check before going.
Monday Lunch Near Madison Hotel
Casa Nonna is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel and has a great red sauce Italian lunch menu---pastas, sandwiches, pizza etc. And if the weather is nice, you can always sit outside.
Zentan is also right down the street and is another great choice.
Dessert near Dupont Circle
Kramerbooks is really good for dessert and coffee and if you are doing your crawl on the weekends they stay open 24/7. I love their Goober pie, carrot cake and apple caramel tart. Really of their desserts are good though. You can also get a cocktail there.
Oval Room, Vidalia, Proof, Blue Duck Tavern, Acadiana, or somewhere else?
Yes. I saw him there 2 months ago.
WEIGHT WATCHER FOODIES - WHAT ARE YOU COOKING? PART 6
Hahahaha "daily wine allocation." A poster after my own heart. The other night I was having a glass of wine and I kept thinking "Really? I have to track this? REALLLLY?" Wine should be a freebie!

Will you post the name of the thread so we can track it? Thanks!
Solo dinining near DuPont / Georgetown
Another great choice! I have dined at their bar many times and the bartender always takes care of me.
Good salads in NW DC?
Ya but if you are going to Fogo de Chao why waste time on the salad when you have a meat fest coming your way? haha
Good salads in NW DC?
I second Bistro du Coin for good salads. I really love their goat cheese salad, as well as their Nicoise.
L'Enfant also makes a delicious Nicoise salad. Perfect for this type of weather because you can sit outside and also sip on a Belgium beer.
Solo dinining near DuPont / Georgetown
I have dined solo often at Hank's Oyster Bar in Dupont Circle. Delicious New England-style seafood. I haven't been there since they expanded the bar but I usually get one of the high top tables or if it's nice out, a table outside. It's nice for people watching.
Urbana has a nice bar as well and is good for solo dining. Lots of great, seasonal cuisine and nice wine options.
In Georgetown I've been to both Peacock Cafe (American cuisine, great crab cake and veggie burger) and Bodega (Spanish tapas, don't miss the croquettes) by myself without a problem.
