Breakfast in... Verdun?
I've been to Rex Pizza a couple of times and have been very satisfied. And the prices are alright. The brunch special is a great value (2 eggs, bacon, sausage, baked beans, potatoes, toast, 1 french toast, 1 pancake, fruit, coffee = $5.99). The people who run the place are also very nice.
filipino restaurants in Montreal
Did a take-out from Bahay Kubo last night after work (around 530pm) and I must say that I was not too impressed. I tried the pork adobo (not bad, a little sweet for my tastes), pinakbet (again, not bad, very basic dish but all the expected flavours were present) and diniguan (this was especially disappointing as it was too bland, could have used a bit more vinegar and salt) and a pork siopao, which was very good.
I'd like to give this place another chance around lunch time and also try some of the deserts and baked goods.
Two Days in Manila
The crickets at Abe were somewhat crispy and chewy at the same time. It appears that they were deep fried first, then quickly stir fried with adobo seasonings and green onions. Flavour-wise, almost like bacon!
Two Days in Manila
My brother took me to Abe at Serendra straight from the airport after a grueling 20+ hour journey from Montreal. The food was fantastic especially the crickets! So good that I ordered it twice! It was a nice break from the average/terrible Y class meals of China Airlines.

Regarding that lechon joint, are you thinking of Lydia's Lechon?
I don't think I've ever been to Seaside Market on Roxas but it sounds like a great place to visit. I'll make a point of going next time which would be sometime next year.
Two Days in Manila
The area around the Golden Mosque in Quiapo has some very interesting looking Muslim eateries, although I've never tried them. That part of Manila in general is quite a sensory overload! :)
Two Days in Manila
If you're feeling adventurous and don't mind crowded areas, check out Quiapo / Divisoria / Binondo (Old Manila). You're bound to find something interesting there. Good luck!
Opinion on Sylvesters in Verdun
I really enjoy it's 3rd world / beachside type atmosphere
Opinion on Sylvesters in Verdun
Er, um......the last time I was there we were partying with 2 strangers. Sylvester closed / locked the door, allowed us to smoke (even a spliff), offered us gin and tonics. One woman even followed me to the bathroom and tried to give me a bj but I politely declined. Everytime I go there something crazy and hilarious happens.
The food is from the Mauritius islands in the Indian Ocean, so there are Indian, Chinese, Creole and African influences. I usually order the oxtail in curry sauce.
Opinion on Sylvesters in Verdun
I'm usually pretty stuffed with the excellent starters by the time the main plate arrives. I don't think I've ever finished the entire plate. Food's okay but the BYO and after closing craziness makes this a favorite of mine.
Good Restaurants in Manila
Another favorite of mine is Trellis (40 Matalino St. cor Kalayaan Ave. Quezon City / Taguig City). Authentic Pampanga cuisine and the sisig is to die for! It's a great place to hang out and relax with a big (or small) gang over many bottles of ice cold San Miguel Pilsens (the hell with San Mig Light, tastes like water!) and some wonderful food. The prices are quite reasonable too. I miss that place *sigh*
Good Restaurants in Manila
Did you mean Abe in Serendra Complex? I was there just after xmas 07 and it's quite awesome! I tried the lamb adobo, fried catfish with with buro and other dishes I can't quite recall but all good. The crickets sauteed with tomato and onion was exceptionally delicious!
peruvian?
If you're ever in the Verdun area, check out Villa Wellington on 2nd and Wellington. Great ceviche, giant portions. Lots of deep fried sea food and fish. Usually packed with locals during the weekend.
Favourite Chinese?
The few times I've eaten at Hong Kong it's been way too greasy to the point that it's given me bad heartburn.
Something cheap and decent very close from Metropolis for tonight
Definitely go for the Deer Garden. You could bring your own beer too.
Bizarre Foods - tell me what you really think
I've never seen the show but he sounds totally obnoxious! Any of this stuff on youtube.com?
Does cooking make you happy?
Absolutely! Especially when I'm alone, listening to good music and having a few beers or some wine in the process. It's my favorite form of relaxation.
Philippines suggestions
If you're in the Quezon City area near U.P. check out Trellis, an indoor/outdoor restaurant featuring the cuisine of Pampanga. A great place to hang out for beers and some mouth watering sizzling sisig. One of the best I've ever tasted. Also try the sizzling baby squid. Or the green mango with bagoong on the side. Fantastic atmosphere especially during the rainy season. A great place to kill a few hours. Sadly it was closed the last time I was in RP but hopefully I'll try again when I return in December. Goddamn I miss the homeland!
Quartier Latin/ Chinatown/ East recommendations
The Deer Garden on St. Laurent blvd just above Rene Levesque is BYO (beer too). The service is unbelievably fast sometimes. The food is good and cheap, very unpretentious. Try the Harmoun noodles (#123), Cantonese lobster, beef with bitter melon, salt and pepper squid, even the General Tao's decent. Fun place. There are better places in Chinatown I'm sure but the Deer Garden holds a special place in my heart and I've been going there for many many years. Friendly staff too.
