Tofu House Monterey Park Closed!

I went in June 2009 and noticed this place had closed! I have been searching for other recommended Soon Tofu places and have recently tried Beverly Soon Tofu (BST). I have to say, that I miss Tofu House off of Atlantic in Monterey Park!

The Soon Tofu at BST was good, but I thought the side dishes at Tofu House were better. BST did not have the fried fish, seaweed, potato salad, fish cake (but the did have better kimchi (IMHO), a soy sauce potato, and a great silky tofu side dish...tofu overload!). Also, the Soon Tofu had more and bigger clams than Tofu House had. I liked the flavor better at Tofu House, but the tofu was better at BST. Both are better than BCD. Parking and the drive to BST are pretty bad at dinner time as well.

Is there anything like Tofu House in the Monterey Park/Alhambra area?

Korean BBQ Road to Seoul - Any Better AYCE?

I recently ate at Road to Seoul and thought the overall experience was great! Better than Tahoe, Manna, and about 4 others I have tried, but can't remember the names (IMHO). Usually go with Korean friends (to get better service), but that didn't seem to be an issue here. I tried everything they had on the AYCE menu and liked the quality and flavor (not too sweet or salty). The side dishes seemed similar to other places, but they had a kimchi pancake that stood out, as I have never seen this included at an AYCE place. For the price of $16.99, I thought it was a good deal.

Are there any other AYCE places with similar quality? Kimchi pancake or something similar? Or, any non-AYCE places that cost about the same?

The Farm - LA Live - Family Friendly

I am looking for a family friendly (able to accomodate a baby) restaurant in/near Downtown LA to meet up with some relatives tonight. Looking for something with a good atmosphere to have a nice dinner, some drinks and able to talk. Is The Farm family friendly?

Dinner Tonight - AOC, Lucques?

Looking for a great place to take out some visitors to LA. They were recommended the above places, but I was wondering if there is anything better? Looking for good food and atmosphere...something they will rave about when they go home!

5:30am Breakfast To Go - Catering? - Near Downtown or Pasadena

I'm looking to pick up some breakfast for 5-6 people early tomorrow morning (needs to be ready to pick up around 5:30am). Is there anyplace that caters in either Downtown or Pasadena that would be open early? Even a really good bakery that does scones and coffee to go would be good. If not, I know Starbucks and other coffee shops are open. Thanks!!!

Nice Chinese Restaurant - Atmosphere and Food?

Thank you all for the recommendations. I will be eating out a lot this week checking out the locations. Along with some other searching, it seems like these were the primary recommendations: Mission 261, Empress Harbor, Elite (no particular order). Once I try them all, I will post a summary. Thanks again!

Nice Chinese Restaurant - Atmosphere and Food?

I am looking for a good Chinese restaurant to take guests for dinner. I am looking for a place that has good food, but also nice atmosphere. Many of the places with good food lack in the decor/atmosphere department. So the 2 things I am looking for:

1- Decor/Atmosphere - Doesn't need to be as trendy as PF Chang's decor, but something nicer than Sam Woo's would be desired. Even something like Empress Pavillion during lunch dim sum would be okay, but I don't know if it is the same at dinner.

2- Food - Not looking for Americanized Chinese food like PF Chang's (even though I think they have good food) or Panda Express...something more traditional.

Preference would be east of downtown LA, but willing to travel to take them out as well.

Does something like this exist? Thanks!!!

Best Taiwanese pork chop in LA?

Thank you for the response! I tried Old Country Cafe's pork chop rice plate yesterday. It had a sweeter taste (I have been told this is the common taste you will find in LA) and less crispy outside. I have asked around and have been told of other places (Nice Time Cafe), but find Sinbala in Arcadia to be the gold standard. The texture and flavor of Sinbala make it unique...but they could make it a little thicker to make it even better!

Best Taiwanese pork chop in LA?

Does anyone know of Taiwanese-style deep fried pork chop better than Sinbala in Arcadia? Willing to travel for good food!

Also, does anyone have a good recipe for this as well?

Yummy Korean BBQ (Hawaii Style Korean Plate Lunch) in LA?

Thanks for the recommendation. I tried Ohana, but have to say I was expecting something different. I had the BBQ chicken and BBQ pork plates. The food had good flavor, portions were great, but the variety was lacking. As posted, they had good bean sprouts, and the kimchee was good too. I was expecting something a little more like Yummy's or other Hawaii-style Korean BBQ that offers many more side dishes. I would go back, especially if I was in the area. As for the parking, I think I got there at just the right time...found a spot right in front. Thanks!

Yummy Korean BBQ (Hawaii Style Korean Plate Lunch) in LA?

I am looking for a Korean BBQ type of place in LA that resembles Yummy Korean BBQ in Hawaii (http://www.yummyhawaii.com/yummy.htm). I have been to a place in Glendale called Korean BBQ of Hawaii, but it has since turned into a L&L BBQ. Basically, the plate lunch consists of several choices of side dishes, which are korean vegetables (kimchi, cabbage, spinach, watercress, cucumbers, etc.), rice, and a choice of meat (kalbi, chicken, etc.). Does anyone know of something similar in LA?

Dinner for special occasion/guests from out of town???

I have guests in town from Hawaii and would like to take them out to celebrate their anniversary tonight! Looking for something good (anywhere in LA or Pasadena) that would be good. They are in their early 30's and am looking to take them somewhere that is a MUST in LA. Primarily, when they go back and people ask them what they did, they can say they went to XXXX (fill in the blank), which was really good. Atmosphere is probably more important that the actual food, but food should be good. Any cuisine would work, but something different than what they could get in Hawaii. Thanks so much!!!

Memorable Dinner for Anniversary

With so many good restaurants in LA, how do you decide? I haven't been to a lot of really memorable dinners in LA, but I would like to celebrate my anniversary and take my wife somewhere we both will truley remember (dinner and atmosphere)...Something that when you leave, you are wow'd and can't wait to share your story with friends and family. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Impressive, but not too pricey, for business meeting tonight - Near Cedars Sinai or something on the way back to Downtown LA

I have read many of the posts regarding places near Cedars Sinai, but many of them sound pricey (Morton's, Mishima, The Ivy, etc.). I have a person visiting California for the first time (from the East Coast) and would like to take him out (there will be 4 of us) to a nice LA place that has a nice atmosphere...someplace that will allow us to talk and not feel too rushed. Something near Cedars Sinai or on the way back to Downtown LA would be nice, but does not need to be (within reasonable distance). Any recs truly appreciated!

Best chicken wings in L.A.?

How do all of these places compare to Hooters...for a reference? I do like Hooters wings because they are crispy and good size...and the sauce is okay. I don't like soggy or non-crispy saucy wings. I think Hot Wings is more of the saucy style.

Dinner in Downtown on Sunday?

Good point about finding something they don't have back East. I have been to several Morton's and they have all been great for steaks. I am from Hawaii so I often go to Roy's, but am don't know how they would take to the Yamaguchi's fusion cuisine. I do think they would like the dessert. They will be staying around 5th and Grand so that would be a good choice for location (something close and easy). As for attire...are all of these places very "dressy"? These people will be flying in and I don't think they will like to go to a dressy/fancy place. Thanks again for all the suggestions!

Dinner in Downtown on Sunday?

I am looking for a place in or close to Downtown LA for a nice, but not formal dinner. I am taking my college advisors (in the 40's-early 50's) from the East Coast out and would like to them somewhere decent, but again not very formal as they will likely not be dressed up since they fly in on Sunday afternoon.

I have had one recommendation of Ciudad...any other recs? Thanks!

Carmine's Italian Restaurant & Bar in PASADENA

I've never had a rasPberry martini, but I have had many rasPberry flavored vodkas. They probably made the martini with rasPberry flavored alcohols instead of the rasPberry juice...

I think the real problem is the service. I have been to Carmine's in South Pas several times and the service has typically been "below average". It is too bad because the food is decent, but there are just too many other places to go in the LA area for good food with better service.

Best Japanese Ramen in LA (east of 110 Hwy)???

I have guests in town from the midwest (originally from Japan), and they want to go somewhere that has really good ramen (similar, or better, something they could get in Japan). I heard downtown (Little Tokyo) or Alhambra area may have something? As always, any input is greatly appreciated!

Agree...Casa Bianca is over-rated...however, I prefer NY style pizza...service wasn't very friendly either.
