These are the Cuban black beans & rice that are cooked together, and often (I think) amped up with bacon, onions, spices, etc. They have to be mingled, not separate. Anyplace decent in the city or the boroughs? I tried Little Havana in the west village last night & was unimpressed.

thanks!!

Important re shio ramen: Did Chikubu close? Eric Eto et al, help!

Hi, folks. Two things:

1) New York mag tells me Chikubu is closed, and no one is picking up there.

2) If that's true, I need to know the best SHOYU (soy-baed) ramen in town stat. Rai Rai Ken's was horrible; not sure what they do to the pork there but it's not pretty. Setagaya has great shio (salt), though it's not totally traditional, but I'm craving soy-based ramen. Anything other than Sapporo come to mind for a stellar option? Thanks!! (Momofuku is not gonna cut it here either, sadly).

Got a favorite recipe using homemade tomato sauce?

Hi, all. I just went a bit bananas and made a whole tank of the Babbo-recipe tomato sauce. It's got half a carrot, thyme, onions & garlic in it, and that's pretty much it. It went fairly nicely with the eggplant parmigiano medallions I made last night, but I'm determined to use up a ton of it over the course of the next week. Fave recipes? Preference given to easy ones; I'll admit it. But I'm open to recipes of any ethnic origin, not just Italian.

Thanks!
