Mogo Korean Tacos Asbury Park
Not to be a party pooper but I can't think of any definition of food by which Asbury Park would qualify as an "epicenter" of. It's a cool town and my preferred hang out spot, but the only places in AP worth visiting (for food) IMO are Bond St. and Cotija, and mostly for cost reasons. (Islander II and Haitian restaurant are great too but not exactly cheap for what they are.) Everything else is pretty mediocre or overpriced. With Plan B gone, the only "upscale" restaurant worth visiting is Moonstruck - and that place is so old and tired now, for me anyway. The best pub food (other than Bond) IMO is actually right outside AP at Clancy's.
There really isn't a single "destination" restaurant in AP, for now anyway.
1$ Tacos are back in Asbury - Cotija
Hey Mark - to clarify, Mogo tacos are 4$, Cotija is 1$. Since Mogo is 2x the volume of Cotija, it comes out to roughly 2x the price in terms of quantity. :)
As a matter of fact, at 4$ a taco, it makes 8 bucks for 2 tacos. Kind of a rip off if you ask me.
1$ Tacos are back in Asbury - Cotija
Re: Mogo - I straight up prefer Cotija's tacos to Mogo's, regardless of price. When you consider that Mogo is roughly 2x the price (I think 2 Cotija tacos equal about 1 Mogo in volume) it's a no brainer for me.
best cut of steak? (from former non-meat eater)
Try them all. The main cuts for what you're looking for are sirloin, strip loin, ribeye, and tenderloin (filet mignon). A good initiation might be to cook yourself a T Bone. I personally prefer strip and ribeye.
Really good lunch around Eatontown
That just about covers it. :) I wonder how those places are doing with the closing of Ft. Monmouth...
Chinese banquets in NJ?
Does anyone have any experience with Chinese banquets in NJ? Who's got the best one? I'm talking about something like this:

Pozole, a love story
I love Pozole...the only problem is that when faced with a choice I will almost always go with menudo instead. :)
Feeding a new diabetic?
This, in a nutshell, is the problem with diabetes (II) treatment today. They give you drugs to lower your blood sugar, and then encourage you to eat carbs on a regular basis. This is exactly the opposite of the treatment they *should* be prescribing.
Food Safety - Leftover Bones
I save bones after serving and throw them immediately in the freezer. when i have a bunch saved up it all goes into a stock pot...
Feeding a new diabetic?
Thanks for the clarification, I didn't mean to suggest that it would restore lost function or damage, but rather that it would halt its progress.
Feeding a new diabetic?
I think you missed my point. I didn't say he needs to eat more veggies than meat, it's actually the other way around. Please do your husband a favor and ask him to research ketogenic diets. He will absolutely love it.
Feeding a new diabetic?
I'm following a similar diet and the veggies I eat most are cruciferous vegetables:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruciferous_vegetables
It"s a staple of my diet and most of my meals consist of a cruciferous veg and a piece of meat. All I'm doing different is skipping the starch component of dinner, really.
Garlic powder & onion powder vs garlic & onion
Of course - I'm talking about places with the standard accompaniments of garlic/chili/oregano/cheese. :)
My mouth is on fire! Memorable spicy food moments. [moved from Not About Food]
I have a friend like that...I served her some chicken noodle soup (no chilis, standard american recipe) with some black pepper ground in and her response was "whooh! that's spicy!" We still laugh about it to this day. :)

MGZ, I always knew you and I were kindred spirits, but I never knew you had such a hardcore wife! You lucky dog.
Garlic powder & onion powder vs garlic & onion
Nobody mentioned pizza? I have to have garlic powder on my pizza, and fresh garlic isn't remotely the same.
Top Sirloin Roast. Anything to do other than make a roast?
Why would you take a lovely marbled sirloin roast and ruin it by braising it?
THewat, look into cooks' illustrated's eye round roast method and follow that. it's fantastic.
Feeding a new diabetic?
All of the foods you mentioned are moderately carby foods. Carrots have plenty of carbs, as does hummus. Same with fruits. The best thing for a diabetic is to limit carbs as much as possible (within reason). You should look into ketogenic diets which are known to pretty much eliminate diabetes for type 2 patients. His primary meal plan should essentially be a piece of protein and some cruciferous veggies.
1$ Tacos are back in Asbury - Cotija
There was a 1$ taco shop on Main St. in Asbury that unfortunately closed down...well now it's back!
The tacos are pretty tasty and they have really tasty salsas to go with it as well...it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for cheap Mexican.
Korean Tacos
In my humble opinion, Korean tacos are not as delicious Mexican tacos, nor are they as delicious as regular Korean food.
Imagine if someone made a hamburger taco. I would rather just have a hamburger. Or a Mexican taco.
Korean Tacos
Call me a hater but every time I see a Korean taco stand I can't help but wonder....why???
Beef cheeks
I've only cooked beef cheeks a couple times but I didn't bother cleaning it...did I miss something?
I'm BORED with my food
Try an ethnic market. Go to the Edison area and check out Iselin for some Indian goodies, then H Mart for some Asian stuff. H Mart is amazing.
New Restaurant Depot to Open on Rt66 Neptune NJ
I've never been to Shore Restaurant Supply but I'd like to check it out! I imagine it would be similar.
RD appears to be similar to Costco but with bigger packages and cheaper prices. Here's a current sales circular: http://www.restaurantbyclick.com/rd/BranchPdfFlyers/mar12_northeast.pdf
I'm specifically hoping I can get some cheap oxtail there...supermarket prices these days makes me want to throw up.
