Best Chocolate

There is a new Company called Xan Confections and they have amazing Truffles and Vegan Caramels. They are in most Whole Foods I believe and their site is Xanconfections.com. They have vegan, glutten free and the joseph Schmidt style truffles (they got bought by Hershey I think and are discontinued)

Hope that helps!

Anyway they are being reviewed by all the bloggers and everyone loves them so far.

where's the best soul food in so cal?

I am Texan/Alabamian and have been here for 12 yrs. By far the best is a hole in the wall is in Santa Ana called Ruth's Kitchen(next to Ghetto Records in the ghetto). Ruth is from Alabama and she's not open Mon or Tues. She's got everything from collard greens and real fried chicken gravy. Mmmm....now that I have found her I crave it at least a couple of times a month.

Looking for an OC area personal chef

Susan's Healthy Gourmet (let's you pick and choose and has variety of diets), Zone chef's(have to order a day at a time but they deliver) or Fresh Dining (most expensive of the bunch). These would probably work. Another option is to ask their Doctor.
Good luck to your friend!

Carraba's

I love Carraba's but I also LOVE lots of sauce and garlic. The mussel appetizer is wonderful and yummy to dip your bread in, the quail is delicious. I am a fellow Houstonian and started at the original Carraba's and watched it grow over the years and I still love it. When I go back to Houston I have to eat James Coney Island, Antone's, Texadelphia and Carraba's. It's worth a try for sure!

How many fellow Chowhounders are or have been in the biz?

I currently run one of the healthy food delivery services in Southen California, so I have been in the business for awhile, but NOTHING was as stressful as waiting tables for a year in NYC. I still have dreams about not getting to every table in time and I sleptwalked one time trying to serve water to a friend spending the night.

I think everyone should wait tables at some point in their life. It would make them very grateful for their current job and much more empathetic towards the waitstaff(and probably more reasonable with tips).

And whoever wrote about cooks/chefs; they are a strange bunch! We have a wonderful one now but cook's tend to have ego's galore and anger issues lol!!! We have 25 kitchen employee's and man are we lucky. Hard workers, good people and wonderful employee's.
