North Shore good eats for a foodie ??

We go there often, for the food, the view and the service. Their lazy lobster casserole is terrific -- it doesn't look like a big portion but it actually is. A very simple breadcrumb-and-butter dressing that lets the taste of the lobster come through. Also, the lobster rolls are very good, not filled with a lot of junk.

Great seafood with views in Cape Ann?

The Lobster Pool by far. Food and service are great, views are incomparable.

Roast Beast (Allston)

I love your post! I am having the hugest craving for beef on weck. I just read a Wikipedia page that gives a straight-faced history of beef on weck and almost licked my computer screen. I don't suppose you can even get the rolls anywhere around here?

Also, you know who makes a terrific breakfast is Lobsta Land in Gloucester. A little pricey but delish. I had some gingerbread pancakes there that were incredible

favorite breakfast places

Sugar Mag's in Gloucester is very good and has some creative, interesting dishes and yet when I want a breakfast that's consistent and solid up and down the lineup, I generally go to Two Sisters on Washington Street.

That said, the best breakfast in the world is here: http://www.pollyspancakeparlor.com/

Latitude 43: Another disappointment

The wife and I went to the Latitude 43 pub in Gloucester last night for the first time. First of all, we were surprised by the number of people who brought small children but let's set that aside for a moment.

An appetizer of fries, two small pizzas, a glass of wine, and a Diet Pepsi: nearly $60 including tip.

Now, I don't mind paying for the food that is good but this food is not good. One pizza was overcooked and the other was so over-sauced that you could hardly taste anything else. The fries had a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and allegedly some truffle oil but basically, we're talking about fries here. Plus, the menu is oddly limited.

I have heard so many people rave about this pub. I don't get it.

Treb: The food at Sugar Mag's is fantastic, tis true, but do you find that the wait staff has a kind of Durgin Park attitude? I often prefer the quality and simplicity of breakfast at Two Sisters.

Restaurants in Salem Ma

I liked the Lyceum the last time I was there -- the menu has been nicely updated, the food was fresh and tasty, and of course, the decor makes me feel like a Robber Baron.

Question: I saw a place in Salem called The Lobster Shanty featured on Triple D the other night. Has anyone been? Is it worth going out of my way?

Best Pizza on North Shore???

I had pizza from Delaney's in Gloucester last night for the first time in a long time and it was really quite good. Reminded me of Riverview and I didn't know you could fit so much pepperoni on a pizza. The sauce was not sweet, the crust was crispy and just enough cheese. Thumb's up.

New Haven rest stop?

I live in Mass. and travel to and from New York. Recently, I changed my route from 90/84 to Interstate 95. I will only miss Rein's deli but am looking for a similar stopping place along Route 95. Is there anything in or near New Haven right off the highway that is fast, cheap and delicious?

Alchemy in Gloucester

I went to Alchemy for lunch last week to see if its new iteration is any better than the old one. I am desperate for a place that is not Passports. The Alchemy owners expend so much effort on their decor but the food has always been so terrible/mediocre/inconsistent/overpriced.

I asked the waiter whether the "serving platters" feed two and he said yes. Well, the platter wouldn't even have fed one elderly woman on a diet. We ended up ordering two platters -- the Mediterranean and the cheese -- and lots more pita bread.

The food itself was good. The cheeses were especially well chosen -- nice variety of hard and soft, a nice jam, some fig thing that I didn't try, and a little pot of honey, a great touch, but only maybe five or six crackers. The Med platter was OK -- hummus, tabbouleh and something I can't remember.

Would I go back? Not sure. In the end, it felt like I had spent $15 for cheese and crackers.

Good options in Beverly?

I can't believe I forgot Super Chicken and Depot Diner. I've only had breakfast at Depot Diner but it is terrific. Super Chicken isn't much to look at but it is total comfort food and lots of it.

Good options in Beverly?

There's a pretty good Thai restaurant on Cabot Street, Siam Something. There used to be a fun little dinner at the Airport, I don't know if it's still there. I have never tried the little hot dog stand on Rantoul Street but I've heard a couple of people rave about it,

Of course, takeout from Henry's is better than almost anything you could get at a restaurant.

Best / Favorite 5 restaurants on North Shore??

I'm not saying that Fortune Palace is that great. I'm saying Su Changs was that unimpressive. But tell me some dishes to try the next time I'm there and I will try to eat with an open mind. So to speak.

I recently went to Su Chang's for the first time. It was OK but not spectacular. At the risk of being mocked mercilessly, is Su Chang's that much better than, say, Fortune Palace in Essex?

That used to be true but after it changed hands, it became really disappointing. I'm looking forward to the new pizza place where Elliott's at the Blackburn was, Giuseppe's. Why is all the pizza in Gloucester sweet?

Lazy Man's Lobster / Lobster Saute / Lobster Casserole

The Lobster Pool in Rockport is the best I've ever had and the price is very reasonable. A large amount of fresh lobster in cracker crumbs -- a nice, clean taste. Sometimes, they overseason the cracker crumbs but unusually not. Unfortunately, I have to wait until April for my fix .....
