I got a smoker...and am out of ideas
i got a smoker two years ago and have pretty much mastered your typical bbq. any suggestions for different things i might try smoking. i've got the brisket, ribs and pork butt down.
i was particularly thinking about a duck, but i don't know...
chili dog in the hartford area?
i woke up craving a chili dog today and the boys and i ( 2 and 5 years old) have a day off together tomorrow. i want to take them out for one, but i can only come up with places in fairfield county...are there good chili dogs in the hartford area?
Favorite Summer Drink? (Alcoholic)
i like making frozen lemonade with vodka and blending it into a slurry
bacon infused bourbon
after trying one last night, i can see where it's a one drink drink, but it was fun...
i think a late brunch or BBQ would be good with it.
bacon infused bourbon

Best doughnut/donut in Western Mass?
The donut kitchen in holden has the absolute best glazed donut i've ever had. a bit of nutmeg in the dough...i miss those donuts.
What bourbon are you drinking these days?
my dad tells a funny story about his father in law, my grandfather, and scotch. both of them really like their scotch. and in the early 70's lived near each other. anyhow, my dad was having a party and he put out the "good scotch" (no one remember the exact bottle) and a bottle of dewar's at the bar. my grand father, a slight and gentlemanly man his whole life, rush across the room and grabbed the good bottle from a guest who was about to pour it into his coke. with all the indignance he could muster said, "you can put THAT in your coke, not THIS." gesturing to the dewar's.
it's the only story i know of him correcting someone publically, and i've given him more cause than the guest.
the previous posts reminded me of the story.
BBQ in the New Haven area?
there's a cookhouse on rt.1 in branford that has a great pulled pork sandwhich. other bbq too, but the pulled pork sandwhich is the lunch order.
green eggs and ham
thanks for the tips...the food coloring saved the day...we are still on the lookout for a green pig.
Best Flask for Gin & Tonic?
i've had success packing g&t in nalgene bottles on camping trips...you could get a smaller one, considering that a quart of gin and tonic could be a bit much (or not quite enough), but a nalgene ain't all that classy.
in my stainless hip flask i keep bakers bourbon, just because it's one of the only bourbon's i drink that still makes me shake my head to get it down neat. and that somehow adds to the mystique of the hip flask for me.
green eggs and ham
i ask my 4 year old what he wants for dinner a few times a week and he always replies, "green eggs and ham." so i asked him if he knew how to make it and his answer requires that i find a green pig and chicken from which i can extract the necessary ingredients.
anyone got ideas that do not include the slaughter of fantasy animals?
Home brew supply shop near Boston?
strange brew in marlborough...i liked that shop quite a but...and they knew their stuff...can't say if they're still there
where did opa-opa come from?
it was like i walked into a bar. it was there. it was good. it's everywhere. i can't recall a micro hitting so many bars so quickly before.
What bourbon are you drinking these days?
i had a tough time w/ the yellow label, but i'm a big fan of basil hayden's
porter time
it's november and to my mind that makes it time to give up IPA's and lagers and switch to porter.
any rec's for porter available in CT that i may like?
anyone else prefer porter to stout?
bourbon and branch?
i've found that only high-end bars in the north east would understand that order, but in the south it is part of the vernacular.
What bourbon are you drinking these days?
i like knob creek. i like it with an ice cube or two in the summer or neat and really slow in the winter. i have had any number of bourbon's, there's a great bar in worcester, ma (o'conner's), where they have a great bourbon selection. but to each his own.
shrimp and grits
yeah, it's more of an issue with vegitarianism...not that i have an issue with that, but a guest will be someone who does ot eat anything that walks...swimmers are fine with him...so getting the smokey spice is what i'm looking for...chipotle is a nice idea
shrimp and grits
i'm planning to make shrimp and grits but one of my guests doesn't eat sausage, but thasuasage adds a lot of good spice, what would people recomend to add for the effect w/o the meat...i will have to give up on the fat part...
VPB smoked porter
my absolute favorite beer is the VPB smoked porter.
any one know of a comporable brew available in bottles?
ISO: A cocktail with lemonade
i like absoulte citron in lemonade...i put in some ice and blend it...i don't go for a frozen drink thing, more just really fine crushed ice in a lemony drink.
It's not technically beer but...
you know, hard cider is pretty easy to make...and it's fun...go get a few gallons from a few cider mills (mixing tha apples gives better results) add champagnge yeast, throw it in a carboy and let it sit for a few weeks. i primed w/ honey (boiled in water) and in 20 oz. bottles (good for sharing) and it was really fun to serve at thanksgiving...
near holiday in on city line ave
i'm staying at the city line holiday inn and was wondering if there are any bars walkable to there.
Water in Martinis
i happen to love the little slivers, some not many, on top of my martini ona a hot day.
Shrewsbury St. Worcester - Where to eat?
offf! i have never had a bad beer or good food at brew city. have 3 or 4 before you order if that's where you're eating. they never seemed to put much effort into their menu or kitchen. the beer selection is, however, worth going for.
