Date Night Menus: order for 1?

Cafe Lurcat (and all of the D'Amico restaurants) allows a single person to order date night.
There is no penalty for dining solo, or being a party of 3 or 5.
You get the three courses of food, plus wine by the glass for $25, Or you can choose to pay an upcharge and still get the bottle of wine.

cheese plates in St Paul or Minneapolis

Cafe and Bar Lurcat has great cheese choices, and wonderful desserts.
WA Frost would be closer to you, and has great cheeses, and a wonderful bar to enjoy them in.

Favorite Coffee Shop?

my two favorites are Kopplins on Marshall and Quixotic on Cleveland.
Both have amazing coffee.
Based on your descriptions you would like Wilde Roast in NE Mpls too.

Quick good eats near Orpheum

D'Amico Kitchen in the Chambers hotel is delicious and right across the street, you could have reservations, but not sure how fast they would be.

Nick & Eddie's-still good?

I've had terrible service the last two times I was at N&E's, coupled with the fact that the bar was completely out of booze (all types).
I can't recommend it.

Recommendations for Parma?

I love either the bolognese or the pica pastas.
They have a really great bar manager, Erik, who knows a lot about Italian wines and have quite a nice wine list.
Enjoy!

First date suggestions for St. Paul?

I like Ngon on university. Great food, local beer list, quieter, but still has great music going.
Senor Wong's in DT is also fun. Great drinks, fun appetizers, interesting fusion food.
If you are looking for a fancy first date Meritage is perfect, romantic and quiet.

Twin Cities Brunch

Red Stag has great baked goods and house made jam, fun breakfast cocktails and juice drinks, and some creative twists on breakfast classics. Great biscuits and gravy too!

Twin Cities Brunch

My favorite in St. Paul is Meritage.
Top two in MPLS are Red Stag and Barbette.

All three are ala carte versus buffet style, and all could easily handle a party of eight.

For ex Sri Lanka Curry House fans

Heather (aka the Curry Diva) is hosting an Indonesian Feast at the Edina Grill on Wed November 10th. A family style Indonesian curry meal with wine pairings for $55.
Sounds great too!

restaurant week

Okay, it's mid-week. Report on where you have been, and how the food has been.
I have reservations for dinner tonight at Meritage, and am debating lunch at either Cafe Ena or D'Amico Kitchen this weekend as I haven't been to either.
Any big winners or losers?

Caramel Rolls

Swede Hollow has the best caramel/pecan rolls in town.
Sounds like the Bars Bakery team used to work there so I would guess they are similar, haven't been there yet!

Has anyone been to Red Stag SupperClub (NE Mpls)?

Red Stag has one of the best weekend brunches in town. Seriously great brunch.

Dinner has been hit or miss. A couple of fantastic dishes (smelt fries, roast chicken), plus a few overcooked or dried out misses all at the same table.

Great NE location, great drinks, fun live music in the evenings.

Porter and Frye

Great interview with the new chef at Porter and Frye on Heavytable.
Anyone been recently and checked out the menu?

St. Paul Martini bar

What are your criteria for a "martini bar"?
For fun cocktails I would suggest Senor Wongs or Barrio downtown.
For more posh cocktails and atmosphere I would St. Paul Hotel Bar or Salut on Grand.
Saji-Ya also has fun drinks in a quiet funky atmosphere.

Restaurants You Love - And Nobody Talks About

Senor Wongs, great fusion food with a fun bar (creative drinks, decent wine/beer list) in a great space in DT St Paul. Never seems busy. If this place were in Uptown it would be packed!
Rainbow Chinese...Chowhound seems to focus on the Teahouse/Grand Sch. debate.
Agree on Cafe Biaggio, have always had a good meal there...its sort of in the forgotten land between cities there on University.
Birchwood Cafe, reliable and wholesome. A neighborhood classic that I wish was in my neighborhood.

Need a little help

Completely agree with cocktails at Bradstreet and dining at Cosmos; its upscale, quiet and the food is really good.
Not as fancy but really good, NGON on University. The chef trained at the CIA, the beer and wine list is great, and the upscale fusion Vietnamese food is good.
Haven't eaten at Piccolo yet, but all the reviews have been extremely positive.

Restaurants everyone loves--except you

Agree on La Grolla, cute space with a great patio. Extremely mediocre food and terrible service. There are enough great patios and fantastic Italian places in town, how do they stay in business?
Stella's, again prime Uptown location with a great rooftop deck, but terrible seafood quaility and service, yet it is packed to the gills all the time. Maybe if you build a nice patio the customers just show up?

Best Chef's Table?

Cosmos at the Graves Hotel would be an amazing reward dinner. The hotel is modern and sleek, and the food matches. Their chef was also nominated for a regional James Beard award this year. Did the chef's table for NYE last year and it was amazing! Spendy but amazing.

Where are the restaurant supply stores?!

You are thinking of Restaurant Depot (right next to the state fair). You must be imployed in the "biz" to shop there.
Hockenburgs on Rice Street in St. Paul would fit your needs as well.

Need help with Asian restaurants on Grand Ave in St. Paul or downtown SP

Senor Wong's in DT Saint paul is really good and fun. It's a hybrid Asian/Mexican combo that is great. Fun drinks, not too expensive.

(MSP) - Grits

Longfellow Grill has a wonderful duck and grits appetizer, it is even half price during Happy Hour. They also serve the same dish at Edina Grill.

St. Paul budget-friendly suggestions needed

Senor Wongs for great Asian/Mexican food, in a funky setting (great HH's too). Downtown to boot.
Bulldog for burgers and beer.
Cheeky Monkey on Selby for fun deli food.

turkish/arabic coffee in msp

Shish on Grand Ave in Saint Paul has exactly what you are looking (and three to four kinds of homemade baklava to go w/ it).

Unique reception hall ideas- wedding in mpls for 275 guests

I had my wedding at the Wabasha Street Caves (Saint Paul). They are they old phohibition era caves. They have full bar service, allow you to bring in your own caterer, and have a built in stage w/ lighting for bands or DJ's. The space is used weekly for swing dancing and tango events and has a great wooden dance floor. We had over 300 people at our reception and that worked easily for space (there are three seperate rooms for dining/seating/buffet/etc. It was nice to find such a great space, and equally nice that they didn't force you to use "their" caterer.

Early patio openings? (MSP)

Longfellow grill has their patio open!
I also saw them setting up the patio today at Moscow on the Hill.
