Nice crisp and refreshing but not flat beer for summer

I hadn't seen your comment, but I recommend Allagash to everyone. If you can find it, you'll like Oxbow Farmhouse Pale Ale.

You will probably enjoy Blanche du Bruxelles and Allagash White, both are great summer brews (if you like witbier).

pizza & pastry in Hershey

Soprano's (not sure how they haven't gotten sued yet) in nearby Campbelltown has excellent brick oven pizza. http://sopranospalmyra.webs.com/menu.htm

Home 231 Harrisburg

Food is definitely high quality, service is good but not stuffy. I prefer the food to Char's old place, which I thought out-dated and over-priced.

I'd second that recommendation. I've been there for brunch a dinner, food is excellent and very reasonably priced.

Places for dinner in Harrisburg PA.

Momo's BBQ has a pretty good beer selection and great food (try the smoked-then-fried wings).

I need a little help picking two Harrisburg restaurants

I'm not a fan of Bricco, the cioppino tastes like V8. Mangia Qui/Suba (same kitchen) has always been fantastic, but I don't know anything about their wine selection.

Chalit's Thai Bistro on the west shore is pretty amazing, it is much more than your average Thai place. Plus, it is BYOB.

Need a Harrisburg rec

You could check out Dodge City, they just filmed an episode of Restaurant Impossible there.

Good pho in Broad Street Market, Harrisburg

It's pretty good! Their Korean food is not bad either. Unfortunately, they used to make their dumplings made to order, now they seem to hang out under a heat lamp.
I think Rose's might be the best Vietnamese in the area.

Where can I get Imported Groceries in Harrisburg Area?

Tres Hermanos at Cameron and Paxton streets in Harrisburg has a little market, as well as being a good taqueria. There is also a caribbean bakery further down Cameron street in Steelton, right near the Halal butcher.

Looking for affordable & tasty eats in the Harrisburg area

I pretty much only post on this website to recommend the Subway Cafe, in Harrisburg, for excellent pizza.

What are you a stubborn purist about?

didn't mean to post and run, but the links below pretty much cover it...

It just sounds condescending to me, the implication that whatever typically American food is the norm, and everything else is "ethnic." Really more of a semantic complaint than a food one.

Not using the term "ethnic food."

Mitaka dim sum in Harrisburg?

glad to hear it! Maybe they break out the cart for Sunday brunch?

Mad Elf

Next year I'd highly recommend visiting the brewery itself, not only can you buy cases and 22ozers but you can sample and take home their "scratch beers." These are the single batch experiment beers they make through the year, like Double Espresso Oatmeal Stout, Saison, and Bitter, I'm not a big fan of Mad Elf myself (I find it oversweet) but it got its start in the scratch series. They usually have release dates on their website.
Also, they have really cool growlers.

Rec: Carribean Bakery in Steelton

I've only been there once, but it was delicious! I had a Cuban on fresh baked water bread, the roast pork was moist and flavorful, for $6.50 and it was big enough to share. Clearly family run, they are very friendly and prices are good. I had a macaroon that was too dense for my taste, but the cream cheese cannoli-thing was awesome.

Mitaka dim sum in Harrisburg?

Any reviews? I'll be going as soon as I get a chance, as it is the only dim sum within 100 miles, but for now I can live vicariously through you!

Alton Brown & Skirt Steak

I just cooked an outer skirt steak over hardwood lump charcoal (cowboy brand). I marinated the steak for 24+ hours in store-bought bolgogi and grilled about two inches over VERY hot coals, 9 minutes a side. It ended up cooked through, no pink, but was very tender. Cutting against the grain, which seems counter-intuitive, works really well. served with grilled corn salad, it was awesome!

Dinner Rec Homestead (Pgh)?

The missus and I are going to a concert at the Carnegie Library at Homestead on Saturday, and are staying at a hotel (Courtyard Pittsburgh West Homestead/Waterfront)nearby. Any recommendations for dinner nearby? Nothing too fancy, "ethnic" perfectly acceptable (except sushi).
We are driving in that afternoon, so we're looking for something as close to either the hotel or the library as possible. Also, breakfast spot recommendations are welcome!
Thanks!

Anything good in Harrisburg

Bayou - Street parking only, I've never had any problems. The original owner/chef of Bayou recently sold it. They have unveiled a "new" menu which is basically the same as the old menu, only now you can get the specials every day of the week, The price has gone up and the quality has gone down.

SCONE RECIPE WANTED: must be good [Moved from U.K./Ireland board]

Welllll, ok. Take any of the above recipes, substituting baking soda for baking powder (or vice versa). Add some semisweet chocolate, 1/2 cup of kimchee, and 24 styrofoam peanuts, then broil for 35 minutes. Enjoy!

Can you recomend a Miso soup brand? [Moved from Home Cooking board]

I can recommend NOT using Kikkoman. The tofu is made of styrofoam.
