May 2012 Openings and Closings

Not open yet but there's a "Grand Opening Soon" sign out front at Gerard Farm in Framingham. The MW News has some background:

"FRAMINGHAM — Former customers of Gerard Farm will be happy to learn they can soon gobble up its turkey sandwiches and all the Thanksgiving fixings once again.

The popular lunch spot is reopening after a year-and-a-half hiatus, owner Mike Gerard said yesterday.

Gerard, whose grandparents opened the Water Street fixture in 1931, closed shop around Thanksgiving 2010, saying roadwork in the area drove away customers."

Open on Christmas-Near Children's Hospital?

Kashmir on Newbury Street has been our 'go to' Christmas Day lunch place for a few years running. It's about 1 mile away from Children's but a quick round trip taxi would do the trick.

Have never done take out but surely they have that option available.

Dinner before Temptations show in Cohasset: Tosca or Saporito's?

+1 You can hardly go wrong with this choice.

Romantic restaurant near Scullers Jazz Club?

Concur with TZT re: reserved seating. The location is based on when you order your tickets vs when you arrive the night of the show.

The only exception to this is if you combine the show with a dinner in the hotel restaurant. When you do this package, and you can 'upgrade' even if you have already ordered show tickets, you are generally placed in the 1st or 2nd row in front of the stage.

To bring this back to food, we are members at Sculler's and go a lot, and have to admit having had dinner in the hotel restaurant several times. It's not great, and CH'ers may chime in with how bad it is, but in concert (pun intended) with a show it is convenient and helpful in guaranteeing good seats.

As far as romantic, if you have dinner there and arrive early they may seat you against the first row of tables by the windows which have a nice view of the Charles and Cambridge.

Also, you could always go to the show when the doors open at 7PM and get some of the appetizers they serve in the club, then have a leisurely dinner after the show at a restaurant of your choice.

Galleria Umberto vacation?

Now. Back Monday 8/1 I think.

Boca Grande and Anna's Tacqueria turning into corporate Chipotle?

Like you I was dissapointed with Boca Grande's menu changes which they instituted a few months ago. They dropped Birria which was one of their differentiators from Anna's.

Speed's gone

Looks like he had an opportunit to cash in (or out).

"Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett is one of the world’s richest men, but that doesn’t mean he has champagne tastes. The billionaire investor was in Boston this week for a meeting with execs at Yale Electric. Afterward, we’re told, Buffett, his burly bodyguard, and a few folks from the Dorchester-based home appliance store headed over to Boston Speed Dog, the food truck in Roxbury that sells the most scrumptious hot dogs. Not surprisingly, Buffett loved the dog and joked that he wanted to buy the truck. "

“He said he wanted to buy the place, and I told him, ‘You don’t have enough money.’ ’’

At-Home Indian Catering?

India Gourmet has outlets in a few of the area mall's food courts. I can't speak for their Dosa but I love the way they serve Vindaloo.

Abe and Louis

Enjoyed the bone-in rib eye but I would place another vote for the swordfish chop. You can get a good steak in many places.

Best Eating at DFW Airport?

Had the sliced brisket yesterday. Good, for what it is in a "mall food" environment. The immediate area had a pleasant smoky aroma. The brisket was slightly moist with a good smoke ring. Several sides offered (mashed, mac/cheese, beans). Service was as fast as any of the typical fast food places, and very friendly.

Labatt 50?

Spoke to someone at Plymouth Liquors. He said the expat customer disappeared and the beer didn't sell after that so they don't stock it anymore.

Walnut St. Market doesn't have it either.

Jones Cola in the Boston area?

Sorry that I misread your original post by ignoring the "cola" requirement. Several Stop & Shop's in Framingham carry multiple flavors but I've never seen the cola variety.

Jones Cola in the Boston area?

Have seen it in Stop & Shop.
