Would reccomend Boiler Room over Grey Plume for a celebratory dinner. Foodwise they are very comparable but I've always been more "wowed" buy the overall Boiler Room experience. The GP staff seems a little indifferent and less likely to go out of their way to make for a special night out. |

Vegetarian Food in the Midwest Also curious about the vegetarian options at a BBQ place in Austin if you don't mind sharing... |
|

Vegetarian Food in the Midwest Let me get this straight--the author went to a steakhouse, a bbq joint and a fried chicken shack and was surprised that there weren't a ton of vegetarian options? That these types of restaurants are meat heavy can't be an exclusively midwest phenomenon, right? As has been mentioned by others in this thread, there are plenty of vegetarian options in the midwest/plains states, as long as you don't try to find it at restaurants with meat in the name. |

Suggestions for Best Meat (Omaha) Do you want a butcher shop or a restaurant? |
|

Fellow sufferer here: I haven't eaten there by myself but I did sit at the bar by myself for about an hour waiting for a group and I was completely comfortable. |

What's a good cheese to put on a French Dip Beef Sandwich? If no cheese isn't an option, then I concur with a good swiss. I'm also quite a fan of pepper jack and green chiles on a hot beef sandwich but I don't "dip" those. |

It seems very light on...well..everything. Could you post your menu? |

recipe for hot 'Italian' chicken sausage? You'd probably get more responses if you posted this on the Home Cooking Board |

Where do foodies eat in Omaha? No steak houses allowed. Any great ethnic food? I've heard great things about the Boiler Room from everyone that has been. Vivace is fine though I prefer Nicola's for Italian in the Market. Lo Sole Mio is great old school Italian. For Breakfast check out Dixie Quicks or Wheatfields. I prefer the original Wheatfields at 103rd and Pacfiic but the one in the Market is, of course, much more convenient for you. ----- Boiler Room |

Where do foodies eat in Omaha? No steak houses allowed. Any great ethnic food? Great list sladeums! See Howard, there's much more to Omaha than pizza. OP, depending on the point of your visit, just wanted to note that like many ethnic restaurants, most of these are small 'hole in the wall' type places that wouldn't be appropriate for a business dinner or other more formal gathering. |

What is the best, modest price steak restaurant in downtown Omaha? I second the Drover. Also consider Johnny's (the local one on 27th, not the chain in Village Pointe) or Piccolo Pete's for that old school Omaha Steakhouse experience (steak with a side of pasta anyone?). |

What is the best, modest price steak restaurant in downtown Omaha? Could you give us some specifics on what you'd consider "modest price"? |

Which Chains disallow GMOs (gentically modified organisms)? What would be the reason for avoiding corn products like corn tortillas and cornbread? |

+1 for D'Leon's and also not sure Skeeter Barnes and King Kong are really the best of what Lincoln has to offer. ----- King Kong Restaurant |

Is this your first trip to the CWS? Dinker's or Stella's for a burger--both are relatively close to the stadium. Also, in Dundee, not far from where you're staying--Dundee Dell, and Dario's In Benson, Heartland BBQ is good solid BBQ, as is Amarillo in Bellevue. There's tons more where that came from-if you can give more details--what you're into, what you get plenty of at home, that sort of thing -- that would be great. ----- Dinker's Bar |

Steak and Tomato Beer in the Sioux Falls SD area Despite having eating many meals in Sioux Falls, I don't believe I've ever eaten a steak there. That being said, if you chose any surrounding small town steakhouse, I'm sure you will be pleased. As for the tomato beer, honestly, any bar in town will be able to make you one. Add olives for a salty bonus. |

List of commemorative days for foods? 3/28 is "something on a stick day". So many ways to celebrate! |

I second the reccomendation for Spirit World. In addition, Costco had an Absinthe at Christmas that wasn't Lucid (can't remember the brand). Not sure if it was seasonal...I haven't looked since. Also, if all else fails there is a little tiny liquor store/c-store on the corner of 20th-ish and Leavenworth. Don't mind the bars on the windows--the really sweet lady running it will order anything you want. She was ordering us Pisco long before you could find it anywhere else. |

Thanks all for the replies thus far. I will definitely dive into those links. I'm not exactly sure how to describe the formality but I think a gourmet hot dog would be more appropriate than a 5 course plated meal. I will be wearing a short dress and the groom may be wearing a tux but likely a suit. No one else will be in tuxes/formal wear. The caterers come with the stadium and like I said, are willing to do anything but most of their experience is of the hamburger/hotdog/grilled chicken nature so they're really looking to us to tell them exactly what we want. |

Ok Chowhound, I need some guidance and inspiration...We're meeting with our wedding caterers next week to go over the menu and I'm feeling a little stuck. Background: The wedding and reception will be at a baseball stadium. The caterers seem willing to do just about anything we want but most of the events held at the stadium are more of the birthday party/ corporate outing type so they don't have a lot of ideas to offer in terms of wedding menus. Because of the setting and overall informality of the wedding, I don't think that "typical" wedding food--choice of beef chicken or fish--really makes sense in this case, but also don't want hotdogs and yellow nacho cheese. One thing we had talked about was taking typical ballpark food to the next level--beef tenderloin and crabcake "sliders", a french fry station with various dipping sauces. Maybe a fajita station? Gourmet pizza? Any other ideas for upscale ballpark food? Or would you do something entirely different? I'm open to any and all suggestions here. Thanks! |

My office is celebrating National Cheese Lover's Day (Wednesday 1/20) with a cheese related potluck. I'm sure there will be tons of mac and cheese, cheesecake, cheese dip. I'm looking for a great, over the top recipe featuring cheese. I'm not necessarily opposed to one of the above mentioned categories but am also looking for more unique ideas. I have a full kitchen with stove and oven available so no limitations on serving temp/last minute prep etc. Thanks! |

BBQ KC (that we could bring a vegetarian to, and bring excellent leftovers home from)? I'll let the KC locals hammer out the specifics for you but here' s a suggestion--Get your BBQ fix from Jack Stack (definitely NOT gritty but more vegetarian friendly) and then take your husband to a hole in the wall featuring some food other than BBQ. I can't reccomend any specifics but there have to be some hole in the wall Mexican or other ethnic restaurants that you could visit to get the experience. |

YES! YES! YES! I'm currently in the throes of planning a wedding and the wedding industry goes out of their way to remind brides that 'its THEIR pretty princess day and they should do what THEY want". What brides, and people on this board apparently, forget is that the reception is a way to thank the guests for coming to the wedding and should reflect that notion. |

Ultimate Bread Pudding Medium.. I cut them into chunks just like I do any other bread for bread pudding, but I guess leaving them whole would work too. |

Doesn't everyone deep fry their meat? :) A few more chislic tidbits: Lamb/Mutton is also popular chislic meat |

Ultimate Bread Pudding Medium.. Cinnamon rolls are my favorite "bread" for bread pudding. Day old and un-frosted work best. |
