Pre Theatre Lunch on Saturday - suggestions for more American type food

Wander on over to 9th Avenue starting about 42nd and just walk north checking out various places all of which have menus out on the street. Lots to choose from -- everything from dinner to deli to Asian (all types) to brunch places to Italian to Southern, etc.etc. Prices tend to be very reasonable.

The Counter's Burgers

Well, I just got back from my first lunch at The Counter in Times Square (I work a block away) and it won't be my last. While I'm not a regular burger eater, this one is well worth trying out. Lots of size, meat, toppings and types of bread to choose from and at $8.95 for a 1/3 pound burger (with most of the toppings included), it's such a deal. And don't miss the french fries and the fried sweet potatoes. YUM! But if you don't want to wait, get their early or late (at least at lunchtime) cause it's already mobbed. Nice servers, too! In the midst of over-priced touristy traps, this one's worth checking out!

Top NJ Cheese Shops

It's open but it's right near the Upper Montclair train station, not Watchung! It's in the parking area behind the the Bellview movie theater and it's terrific!! Lots of great choices -- not cheap but worth the price!

Mexican Restaurant in NJ.

Hate to say it but stay away from Mexicali Rose if you are used to decent Cal-Mex or Tex-Mex. Senorita's in Bloomfield is better but still doesn't hold a candle to real Southern California mexican. Sorry!

New to Montclair-another UWS transplant

Montclair's full of great surprises. Try out Greek Taverna on Bloomfield Avenue for super Greek food at very moderate prices. Stamna on Broad Street in Bloomfield is another Greek "find." For French bistro food, I love Epernay on Park Street. Nori is my choice for sushi -- I live Azoura's food but the service in always terrible and slow. Try Taste on Bloomfield Avenue for breakfast/brunch -- yum!! And of course, there's always Raymond's on Church Street -- upscale diner food. I think it tends to be over-priced and over-rated but their Cobb Salad is to die for and so are their omelettes.

I just celebrated by 18-year anniversary as a Montclairian -- welcome! It's a great town!
