Your Go-To Faves in Bloor West Village
We live north of High Park.
We tend to eat out in BWV at lunch time, and we have enjoyed lunches at Sushi Villa, Earth Bloor, Bloom, Falafel place near Jane, Green Mango. There is certainly variety here....
Chia seeds in Central Toronto?
Chia seeds at Bulk Barn are $13.30 a pound ($29.30 kg). They are marked GMO and organic. There is also a bin of ground chia, which I would not touch, at the same price. I can grind my own...

Thanks for your time and responses...
Global Cheese Kensington Market.
I went to Global as a student -- used it to acquire cheeses that were remaindered. This was 1963, remaindered cheeses were 25 cents a pound.
I have not been back since 1965.
Just commenting..
NEW CONSOLIDATED Thread: Best Chicken Wings in GTA
I've enjoyed wings at Lou Dawgs, where you get the whole three piecer all attached (tip, flat and drumette), and at Allen's where you get capon wings (juicy, large). Dawg offers a variety of sauces, mostly Tex-Mex BBQ.

Crawfish, given that there are 10,000 different wing joints in Toronto (and you walk into mine) -- why would you have gone back? Just askin'.
Frida's Mexican Restaurant
The Sunday brunch at 10:30AM has more varied dishes and is less expensive per plate.
Bar Volo
You might want to try the WayBack machine at www.archive.org which has archives of the internet. Try www.barvolo.com, for something in 2006 or 2007. They had a "Sicilian" menu back then.
COSTCO treasures [Moved from Ontario]
Kirkland Pesto Sauce: fresh, dated, not canned.
Scaramouche - Lobsterliscious
Yeah, I noticed that...We must both be value-driven...My next outing is Drake Hotel, 7 Pm Monday Feb 20, followed by Gallery Grill, Thursday Feb 23 lunch, 11:30. Nothing special, just a lunch.
Scaramouche - Lobsterliscious
I was there Feb 16, Great value food for the money.
They are kinda vague about when it all stops, so do call soon. Offered Mon - Thurs only.
The butter lobster, the Asian grilled lobster, the desserts, the crab ravioli, and the sea scallops are basically the same as the current regular menu, so you can have these on the weekend (but pay more).
Entirely new and different are the lobster gnocchi and the lobster bisque.
As with Winterlicious, you pay $62 for an app and a main and get a free dessert.

best Niçoise in town?
An "authentic" nicoise would not have any cooked veggies, which lets out potatoes and green beans.
Winterlicious 2012 menus are out - anything CH worthy?
Pan on the Danforth has been adding 15% gratuity to the bill,
where to buy whipping cream that is not ultra pasteurized to make creme fraiche in Toronto
Harmony is about $9.69 a litre, but may be cheaper at Foods for Life and other small organic stores.
Lunch Winterlicious on a Saturday?
Earth Bloor is serving Sat lunch -- I'm going this Sat. Begins at 11AM..
Winterlicious 2012 menus are out - anything CH worthy?
Lunch at Chiado, Globe, Pangaea
Winterlicious: Chiado
Four of us had a really great lunch at Chiado. It's their first Winterlicious. The room was half-full (pity) despite great notices in Toronto Life website and NOW newspaper (which claimed Alvino was 28 years of age). $25 Lunch plus taxes and gratuity
Amuse Bouche
Fresh cheese with a reduction of balsamic and honey with rosemary
Daily Soup
or
Mixed Seasonal Greens, fresh fruit tossed with a Balsamic vinaigrette
or
Grilled Sardines
or
Lobster and Shrimp bisque saffron &cognac
Stir fried salted cod (bacalhau a braz)
or
Grilled Filet of Atlantic Salmon crusted with fresh herbs, plum chutney
or
Pan Seared Skate Fish on coriander risotto
or
Roasted Breast of Capon crusted with fresh herbs, garlic, with piri piri
or
Grilled Squid tossed with fresh garlic, lemon, coriander, olive oil
or
Vegetarian risotto
Platter of Various Sweets
or
White chocolate flan
or
Molotoff
Nothing unusual since everything is pretty well off the menu, but the style, service, manner and presentation, and quantity seemed to be the same as always. A really well-thought out introduction to what Chiado can do. Sardines, bisque (dairyless), calmari, skate, cod, risotto and desserts -- all were winners.
(I have no monetary interest in Chiado)
Chowhounds best 10 Resturants in GTA - 2012 version
Mainly because of the value and consistency. I guess I view the top 10 as places I return to, not places I enjoyed in 2011, but won't go back....

Rijstafel / rijsttafel / rijstaffel dinner at Quince
I think the garlic chips were new. Did any body get peanut satay sauce? I forgot to inquire -- it was on the menu but did not come to our table...
Here's a good recipe for Speculaas
http://www.coquinaria.nl/english/recipes/speculaas.htm
Rijstafel / rijsttafel / rijstaffel dinner at Quince
I was there tonight too, great food. The menu was the same as the one of Sept 28, except the fried fish had a different sauce with lemongrass on that occasion.
The next one will be in April, and there's one more planned for June.
I hope they keep the price at $55 each. We had two lagers, a Camerons and a Creemore.
2012 Food and Restaurant CHANGES and CLOSINGS
Sharkey's World Fusion at Kennedy and Bloor in Bloor West Village has closed, and now called Kennedy Public House after remoddeling...new owners? I do not know..
2012 Food and Restaurant CHANGES and CLOSINGS
There was an article in the Star, reminding me that Casa Mendoza closed on New year's Day, so that makes it a 2012 entry. They just had an auction.
In the same article, an architect noted that Casa Mendoza and The Real Jerk (which is closing) are both on the Queen Street car line, so it might be a last chance to re-visit and look at the sites.
