Fordham U Parents/Alumni - Bronx-Arthur Avenue

Hello, my daughter is a freshman at Fordham, Rose Hill. Any tips for local eateries when we visit. I'm looking for advice for Arthur Avenue too, especially spots that may take reservations on Parent's Weekend. Thanks!

Restaurant Week... No More

I would agree about L'Andana. Had a fabulous meal there last evening. These folks went all out. I'll be back. Attentive staff, wonderful food. Class act! Glad this was our choice rather than some of the other failures that have been reported here.

Dinner prior to Giants Game

We're in SF in mid August and will be attending a night Giants game. Any suggestions for a dinner prior to the game in the area? Two adults and two teens. Kids are pretty picky but like good quality food. Thanks!

Where to buy VOSS water is Boston area?

Hi Chowhounders:
My son has a school project and needs to bring in a native item from Norway. Does anyone know where I can get VOSS water somewhere in the Boston area? I know I've seen it recently, but when I look online all I get is wholesale distributors. Thanks!

Red Parka Pub/North Conway, NH (Glen)

Bump! Anyone know about the sauce? Thanks!

Red Parka Pub/North Conway, NH (Glen)

Hi Chowhounds:
This is a great casual, family friendly find in the North Conway area. Their ribs are terrific. Does anyone know where to buy their barbeque sauce in the Boston area or better yet, anyone have the recipe?

Thanks!

Sintra in Braintree--A good choice (review)

Agreed about Sintra! Great little find South Braintree Square. And agreed with MKel34. Very safe, nice part of the South Shore. Not to worry about crime or anything like that. It's just not Newbury Street, Boston. Enjoy

Looking for function room for family style dinner for 30.

It's a chain, but they do the group family style dinner well.....Maggiano's in Park Square, Boston. The food is always consistent and well prepared. They do however have a tendency to be quite stingy with refills for the family style platters, but maybe that was because we were there on a very busy day (graduation time) with a large group in the main dining room. We had to always chase the waiter for more. But, with a private room (which are downstairs and quite popular) you shouldn't have that problem. Enjoy!

Manchester, NH Area Restaurant

Hi!
We're visiting our daughter at St. Anselm College this weekend and looking for a restaurant to take her to in the Manchester area. Thinking Steak/Seafood -- she's already sick of pasta. I know there is an Outback chain nearby. Any great independents? Thanks!

All Clad MC

bump -- just wondering why aluminum can't go in the dishwasher. (understand why non sticke can't) thanks....

All Clad MC

Thanks so much for your quick response. One question, why can't the aluminum exterior go into the diswasher??? Thanks.

All Clad MC

Hi Everyone:
I just got a piece of All Clad MC -- it's the 2 quart covered pan. It's stamped "MC" at the bottom. It is stainless throughout with a brushed exterior. (No non-stick.) My other pieces are the copper core which I love. Any of you know anything about the MC line? is is equivalent, better or worse than the traditional AC or copper core. It was a great deal but still expensive so I don't want to keep it if it is just so so. Thanks!

Early Dinner/Worcester near Assumption

Hi Everyone:
Any thoughts suggestions for a nice family dinner on Sunday near Assumption College in Worcester? We are there for an open house. Steaks, seafood, good salads. Your recommendations are greatly welcome and thanks!!!

Ovens - How Many?

Go with the over the stove micro/convection combo. I've got the Sharp model and it is great. Got 4 kids, entertain all the time and just love having that convection in addition to an electric oven with gas cooktop. It is absolutely amazing how many times you will use it as an oven rather than heating up your larger one. Make sure you get a model that allows you to turn off the turntable so you can place larger dishes inside for convection use. Enjoy!!!!!

Places for "High Tea"?

Having been disappointed two years ago that I couldn't get reservations near Christmas at the Bristol (Four Seasons) I got my act together and made my reservations early for 2006's holiday season. Needless to say we were ecstatic getting ready to head to what we expected to be a festive, lovely event as it has been so highly promoted in the press, etc. Well what a let down. The decorations were nearly non exhistent with the exception of a table in the foyer with some wrapped packages (orange, blue and yellow paper??). There were some Teddy Bears donated by the children for their tea. Tea was just the basic, few sandwiches and treats all at top $$$$$. Search elsewhere for tea. The Bristol was a real downer.

Best Burger/Fries on the Cape and South Shore?

Burton's -- a steakhouse == at the Derby Street, Hingham shopping center. The place is upscale at night and the burger is about $10, but outstanding. A real treat.

SPAZIO IN BRAINTREE

The original Spazio in Braintee is on Quincy Ave in a strip mall. The second is located at the FX facility. I've only been to the original. It is a terrific spot. Wonderful menu. Try the mape roasted pork and anything with risotto. It's casual, but the prices are higher than you might expect for a local spot in a strip mail, but the food is well worth it. Nice wine selection, great pours. Get reservations if you're going on a weekend. It's a busy spot as the dining room is small. They also have a cafe side which is really the bar and serves dinner on weekends. Other days it has a pub menu. Great burgers, pizza, etc. If you are going on the weekend ask for the dining room side. While not super fancy it would be more appropriate for a birthday dinner especially if you are dining off the full menu and paying for the higher priced entree.
Enjoy!

Pub/bistro/restaurant with Fireplace?

Try the Fox & Hounds on Sea Street in Quincy. The Tavern area, which also serves a great menu of comfort food has a magnificent fireplace. Great drinks too. Casual, nice spot. Perfect for what you are seeking.

Water Kettle

The classic Revereware. Lasts forever. Great price if you watch the sales at Macy's etc. Best of all, safe, burn proof handle. After man years of experience (and pain) I must admit this is no better pouring handle avoiding steam, etc. than the Revereware. Several sizes too. It's great! (Probably the tea kettle your mom had!!!)

North End Regina’s Still Cannot Be Beat

Hi!
I was thinking of bringing my kids there this week too. Agree with your thoughts. One question is where do you park nearby? Thanks.

Place for small grad party - North End?

Hi Everyone: Looking for recommendations for a small graduation party (about 15 - 20) at a North End restaurant. The group is varied -- age 5 to age 80. Looking for something with a nice, comfortable atmosphere -- not too stuffy or very formal, but someplace that could be considered "special" would be ideal. Food needs to be great, but more traditional Italian than not. Some of the group are not very adventurous eaters. Loud, fun, friendly place needed! High school graduation in June. Any ideas for a great spot that would make for a memorable gathering???
Thanks!
