Need a great venue with EXCELLENT food in South JoCo - Olathe, South OP, West Olathe Area
I am looking for a picturesque setting and excellent food for a business banquet for 80 people. I will look outside of the Olathe/West Olathe (K-10 corridor)/South Overland Park areas, but our out of town guests will be staying at 435 and Roe, so I would prefer somewhere close to that. Our office is near Olathe.
My boss knows good food, so I can’t just look for a place that is pretty. I can use a venue that provides catering or I can hire a caterer. Must be able to serve alcohol. I've got a decent budget.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Taste in Old OP (Kansas City Area)
Any recs for Taste? I see it is today's Groupon.

Row House, Topeka Ks.
We have friends who live in Topeka and have been there on five or six occasions, never to be disappointed. Row House offers a well-balanced, midwestern-esque menu; many of the ingredients are fresh and purchased locally. They have a decent wine selection and I never feel price-gouged when ordering a bottle. Our service has always been top notch - once I commented that I really enjoyed our dessert so the waiter wrapped up an extra small-bite to send back to KC with me. I highly recommend Row House when visiting T-Town.
Fave summertime treats--KC
I know, we live in SW JOCO and it is a hike to get to Justus. I know if he had a closer location we would be there all the time.
Fave summertime treats--KC
I had salted pretzel and strawberry sour cream on Monday. The salted pretzel was delicious and rich - IDK if I could eat an entire small of salted pretzed. The strawberry was a nice balance.
I think my favorite combination has been pineapple cilantro sorbet with peach prosecco.
Others I've tried: lavendar with mint chocolate, fleur de sel with Venezuelan dark chocolate, goat cheese and honey with toasted coconut, peanut butter and jelly, farmer Bob's sweet corn.

She is in the garden at 17th and Summit on Sundays - on other days she is at various locations around the city. If you follow her on Facebook or if you go to her site she posts where she will be.

My latest obsession is Fresher than Fresh Snow Cones. My favorite flavors are blackberry lavendar and pineapple serrano.

Crazy KC request
I seem to remember a posting about a Kansas City vendor who owned an Airstream trailer and sold Icee concotions of delectables from her garden out of said trailer. I have searched to no avail all over Chowhound to find the post on this person because today seems like a good day to enjoy a delicious frozen treat. Any help would be much appreciated!
Mama's 39th St
I know they have chicken fried chicken, but I'm not sure if they have fried chicken.
Another trip to Kansas.
Love Westport Flea Market, I think it's the best burger in town, but I want to remind you to take your case. They don't accept cards and their ATM fees are really high.

KC Bachelorette party - fun place to go with the girls on a Thursday night
Probably KC proper, we're from all parts of the metro. Thanks, may check on Anthony's. We may all be wearing tiaras...so being treated like a group of princesses would be perfect.
KC Bachelorette party - fun place to go with the girls on a Thursday night
Looking for a great place to go with the girls. Food, drinks and fun are requirements.
Four Days in Kansas City for all your can eat!
Alas, there are no Red Velvet at Cupcake a la Mode, only vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with flavored icing. Still good (but not more than good). Supposedly the chain M&S Grill was voted the best red velvet cake in KC, but I think my mom's is better.
You should try Christopher Elbow for some excellent chocolates. I take all of my out-of-towners to C.E. for the edible art. http://www.elbowchocolates.com/
I would second the recs for OK Joe's and Room 39. Joe's was featured in Anthony Bourdain's 13 Places to Eat Before You Die. That's saying something. http://www.menshealth.com/bestfoods/food_features/13_Places_to_Eat_Before_You_Die.php
Grinder's has been featured on DDD. I like the hot wings, Philly cheesesteak and pizza. They have an excellent selection of beer. www.grinderspizza.com

The word is granita. Ahhh, that was bothering me for the last 24 hours.

We went to Row House about a month ago with some friends who live in T-town and I've been craving it ever since. Loved the chilled tomato soup and the lemon and basil (I can't think of the word for it, but for lack of better term) flaked ice. Our dinner was excellent, our server was fantastic. We had an excellent, and affordable, bottle of wine. Well worth the drive and a great value.
Avenues Bistro (KC - Brookside)
I like your kids, obviously not a part of the chicken fingers crowd. BTW, what is the Heartland Gathering?
KC, MO Patios (Kansas City)
I like the patio at Room 39 in the Mission Farms development. I have only been for Saturday brunch, so I don't know that it is the most happening crowd but the food is good and the patio is covered to protect from the elements. As a matter of fact, the last time I ate there there I enjoyed a lovely light summer rain.
If you want a place to down a few brews try Grinder's.
If you want to eat with the Country Club set go to Axois.
I know it's a chain, but I enjoy eating at M&S on the Country Club Plaza. It overlooks the JC Nichols fountain, it's shady and they have delicious cocktails.
I also enjoy the outdoor seating at Baja 600 and the rooftop at O'Dowd's, both on the Plaza.
anyone been to the bleu tomato in desoto, kansas?
I have not eaten there myself but I did go to a chamber event where they provided a delicious goat cheese appetizer. In the last month or so I have had two friends, on separate occasions, tell me about their wonderful experiences at the Bleu Tomato.
KC-Scotch
I have a friend who loves great scotches. Any suggestions on a restaurant and bar that offer a nice selection of scotch? Thanks in advance!
Recipes You've Never Heard of Outside Your Family
My mother makes these eggs every Easter and uses dyed eggs from the holiday, which is lovely. She got the recipe from her Grandmother and calls them creamed eggs. Egg whites are coarsley chopped and the yolks are crushed up and sprinkled over the top.
KCMO- The Farmhouse
I tried to go for lunch on Saturday just so I could respond to your post, but, unfortunately, I think they are closed. Closed all day Saturday doesn't seem like a good idea for a restaurant but the hours are listed at the bottom of their page and, just to double check, I called twice. http://www.eatatthefarmhouse.com/?pag...
I look forward to getting down there, perhaps Tuesday.
Best Philly Cheesesteak/KC Area??
Sadly it's closed and has been replaced by an impostor. I would not recommend the Cheesesteak Grill in Gardner. Siiiigh, I miss Mike.
