Breakfast near Bloor & Royal York

Thanks all, good choice!

Breakfast near Bloor & Royal York

I have a meeting tomorrow morning at Bloor and Royal York, is there anyplace that serves breakfast nearby?

quiet restaurant in west end, near public transportation

Earth (Jane & Bloor)?

Ignorant Yank Invades Toronto

There are many sushi restaurants in that area also. Most are forgettable, but Sushi Couture is good.

What does "isn't what it used to be" mean when applied to a place that's only 6 months old?

Another vote for Museum Tavern. More like a bistro than a tavern. Give yourself ample time to try their cocktails. The food is very good, although I don't really like their desserts. Have something from their single-malt Scotch list instead.

Any Worthwhile Restaurants in Brampton?

Our usual lunch spots in or near Brampton:

Saigon House (2 locations) -- good Vietnamese
Kingsley Chinese -- ok but not great dim sum
MINT Indian Bistro
Molly's Hot Shoppe -- roti
Portland Jerk -- best jerk pork, takeout only
Switzer's Deli
Asian Garden -- Chinese
The Pie Guys -- meat pies
Pita Grill House -- shawarma, falafel

Amazing that Marbles is still going. I used to eat there 20 years ago. I remember they had really good burgers.

sodastream co2 refill?

Also Home Outfitters (which is owned by the Bay).

Bloor West Village restaurants

So far I have only had the (excellent) burger and the daily soup (which was lentil when I tried it). But I dined with people who really enjoyed their salads. :)

Try the Good Fork.

Museum Tavern

You have $10 for a meal, where do you go in Toronto?

Jerk Pork at Portland Jerk in Brampton.

What's the best sushi place close to downtown?

Ichi Riki is very good, but it's small so may not be able to accomodate a large group.

Peaty Scotch for my dad's birthday

The real problem with Laphroig is that their best bottling is the 15yo, which was unavailable in Ontario for many years, and now has apparently been discontinued.

The LCBO also fails to import many superior blends, like White Horse and Haig. :(

Baking soda or powder??

Try both and see which tastes better? :)

But if not, it is probably safe to use baking powder, which is just baking soda plus an acid reactant.

The usual substitution is to use somewhat more powder (2 to 3 times as much) than soda.

Museum Tavern

Tried the devils food cake, the fried strawberry pie, and the cookies. I couldn't finish any of them. The cookies were best, which I enjoyed except for their home-made Oreo.

Peaty Scotch for my dad's birthday

Almost anything from Islay would work - Lagavulin, Bruichladdich, Ardbeg, or Bowmore.

Museum Tavern

I had this too this week -- it was amazing.

Now if only they would fix their desserts, none of which I like so far.

dinner in North Bay

Will be in North Bay for dinner this weekend. Any recommendations?

Single meal Toronto

Grand Chinese Cuisine in the Doubletree Airport Hotel is very good.

Museum Tavern

On my second visit I tried the tuna burger, just as good as their cheeseburger, and cooked exactly the way I asked for. And a correctly mixed Perfect Manhattan.

Museum Tavern

I ate there last night. Excellent burger and fries. Very nice room. Good service. Weird dessert -- strawberries in pastry pockets deep-fried. Will probably go back and try their steak next time.

ISO plain, high-fat, organic yogurt

You could try making your own, starting from organic 10% cream. There is a good how-to article at the NY TImes

breakfast in Richmond Hill

Any good breakfast places in Richmond Hill? I have a business meeting there tomorrow morning.

one night in Philadelphia

I will be in town on Wednesday for a business meeting, staying at the Radisson Plaza-Warwick Hotel. Anything interesting within walking distance or a quick cab ride? Not looking for expense-account entertaining, but not budget-conscious either. Some place with good local beer would be nice.

Tonic Water

This week I found some Q Tonic at Bruno's. Amazing in a G&T but insanely expensive.

Do they have jerk pork?
