breakfast in Richmond Hill
Any good breakfast places in Richmond Hill? I have a business meeting there tomorrow morning.
Thanks.
one night in Philadelphia
I will be in town on Wednesday for a business meeting, staying at the Radisson Plaza-Warwick Hotel. Anything interesting within walking distance or a quick cab ride? Not looking for expense-account entertaining, but not budget-conscious either. Some place with good local beer would be nice.
Tonic Water
This week I found some Q Tonic at Bruno's. Amazing in a G&T but insanely expensive.
HEEEEELP - Need a chocolate souffle fast!
If you can't find anything, I would take here out to dinner (no dessert), then make one of these at home, it's very easy.

MAGOO'S - 1 Tasty Burger!
They will cook your burgers to your liking, you just have to remember to ask when they take your order.
French Onion Soup
Le Select Bistro would be first choice. I also like Papillon and Bloor St DIner, although many would disagree.
Longshot - Seeking "Asian Nachos"
The Pickle Barrel has a dish they call Asian Nachos. I'm sure it's not exactly the same recipe, but probably pretty close.
Breakfast near the Airport?
Anybody know of a good place near the airport for breakfast?
We're looking for something better than a standard hotel buffet. And preferably with really good coffee.
More excellent cuisine in Toronto
For Indian, try Exotic Indian Cuisine on Albion Rd. The food is very good, but the place always seems to be empty when I go there (for takeaway). Not much for atmosphere either.
Duck Fat
Bruno's has it. Yes, it is expensive. I think I have seen it at Cumbrae's too.
san marzano tomatoes in TO
Real San Marzano tomatoes come only from the region of Italy near Naples, so it is very unlikely that you will find fresh ones in Canada.
You can get tomatoes of the same variety grown here, but it's really not the same thing.
What to eat at The Keg? . . . I've had no luck in the past...
Me too. I can't stand their steaks, the appetizers are all awful, the desserts are big and bland, the burgers (at lunch) are dry like sawdust, but they have the best prime rib in town. Not just best for the price, but the best period.
So I always order the onion soup (the least bad of the appetizers) and a prime rib dinner with baked potato, and a couple of martinis.
Scaramouche = solid
I have eaten there several times, and at worst it is merely excellent. At best, it is spectacular.
Exotic Indian Cuisine Albion Rd West Of Hwy. 27
I tried this place for takeout yesterday. The pakoras were terrible -- too doughy and not very interesting. Naan was about average, and I had an excellent Madras chicken curry.
A cab ride west from the Sheraton downtown.
I agree with Crush. Stop by Rodney's first for a plate of oysters.
If you feel like steak you could try Jacobs & Co.
Something Interesting on Hwy 7?
Thanks everybody for the suggestions.
I tried Saigon Star and it was excellent. I had the curried shrimp, as the crab looked a bit too messy for me. :)
I make this drive regularly, so I plan to work my way through the recommendations.
Something Interesting on Hwy 7?
Can anybody recommend some place good and interesting for dinner (tonight if possible) on or near Highway 7, anywhere between 410 and Leslie St.?
Thanks.
how about the worst burgers in T.O?
It is not interesting to talk about bad food -- too easy to find anywhere.
Instead, let's warn people about bad burgers at otherwise good locations.
My example -- the Keg. Their steaks are ok and and I find their roast beef consistently very good, but the burgers are much worse than either. Big dry patties in big dry buns. Good thing they serve beer.
Don Mills and Lawrence - Any Ideas?
The David Duncan House is terrible. Their menu reads as if it has not been changed in 50 years, and the execution is awful. Everything is overcooked and smothered in goopy sauce. Stay away.
Great meal at Lucien
At Lucien last week, a friend and I had a seafood appetizer (cold seared scallops), "french onion soup", and lamb and pork main courses.
My soup was in quotes because it was not a classic French onion soup, but more like the soup deconstructed and put back together. Beef consommé, stuffed shallot, little bread sticks and some foie gras. Weird and unexpected, but the taste combinations made sense and the whole thing was delicious.
My pork was just as good -- two different cuts of pork (belly and something else, I forget what), with a flat pasta noodle, a green veg purée and some nice sauces. Again, the whole thing was excellent.
The wine list is short (expected in a new place), but they did have a good selection of half-bottles, which is an advantage if you have to drive home afterwards.
We didn't try the desserts, but I did have their cheese plate. All Canadian cheeses, mostly excellent. The chesse was well kept and served at the proper temperature.
The room is crowded and noisy, but not so loud that we had to shout. I would go back again.
Unique to Toronto/Canada products?
Peameal bacon.
From Newfoundland: Bakeapple jam/jelly, Screech.
Various Quebec items like tourtiere.
Paw Paw Fruit In the T.O
They are different, see the Wikipedia entries for each: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pawpaw and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papaya
Good Toronto Restaurants Open on Sunday Night
Sauvignon, on Queen just west of Woodbine.
Did the "PERSIAN DOUGHNUT" ever arrive in Toronto?
I could never understand why people would eat these things. I always found them far too sweet.
