BYOB for 20 in Raliegh Area

The BYOB is not a deal breaker, We have a wide group of tastes here also. How about a winery in the area that serves food ?

BYOB for 20 in Raliegh Area

We are celebrating a college graduation, and looking for a nice place with private dining for around 20, I'm from out of town and the web is my only guide. Early evening most likely

Shaun Wolfe from Pomana's resurfaces in Carlisle's Green Room

I've been a big fan of Shaun Wolfe since he worked at Pomana's in Biglerville. I'm so happy he has resurfaced locally. The menu definatley has his stamp on it and he brought several of my favorites. His charcuterie appetizer brought back memories that made me miss his cooking so much. I know he has only been there for about 6 weeks and there are some bumps but overall an excellent meal. I know Shaun is a stickler for detail and will iron out any rough edges soon. BTW also have to give kudo's to a pleasant staff who was on top of everything.

New to Harrisburg

When my wife and I arrived, the other couple with us were already seated, so we did not have any issues for waiting. As far as the waiter, he was fine but did mispronounce ingredients (how do you be pretentous when you can't describe the plate descriptions properly") Being a foodie, I guess I wouldn't be phased by ingredients the average person may not recognize. My wife will just quiz me after the waiter leaves if she had a question. I guess when I reload my bank account I'll try them again in the spring and see how things work out. Once again Happy Birthday and Happy Thanksgiving !

New to Harrisburg

We went to Char's last night, (wow, Thursday night and packed solid!), someone cancelled so we got in ! The first thing that struck me was the building and decor. Char has done a great job with the building, nice bar and dining rooms. Food was very good (recommend the Fried Green Tomatoes, Beet Salad, Lamb Meatball, Couscous Paella. The deserts were good but food is where they really shined.

New to Harrisburg

Char's has opened back up http://charsrestaurant.com/

I agree with John J Jeffries, have not been to Maison yet.

Take a trip to Adams County and visit http://www.rettlandfarm.com/

His berkshire pork is reasonably priced and delicious. Also get bread at http://pomonas.com/ which will rival the best you have ever had. Do it early on Saturday morning before the bread runs out. Good sourdough

Swing over to Hanover and go to http://www.carriagehousemarket.net/ A little pricey on some things but great stuff.

You just missed the apple festival (Did you know that Mott's and Musselman's is in Adam's County) but swing by http://www.hollabaughbros.com/ and grab some apples and make pies and cakes

Underground dining in Harrisburg ?

Welcome to the area, I don't know if we could get enough people but I'd be up for it. We do have the advantage of great farm ingredients in the area. BTW, there are some great places in Lancaster for dining (I saw your other post)

Suggestions for client/good time dinner in Gettysburg?

Cashtown Inn would be your best bet, J's at the village would be second but it is very hit or miss. Sydney's in East Berlin and Sheppard Mansio are both good , but further out of town.

Dinner in the Lancaster area on a Sunday night

I want to have dinner on Sunday night (Feb 26th) but the problem is that we can't attempt dinner until around 8:30. Many places are closing around 9 or closed on Sunday's. We will be in Willow Street and would like something nice and quiet. Upscale would be nice but not necessary.

Momo's BBQ or Blue Heaven in Harrisburg

I haven't been to Blue Heaven but I just had Momo's. On the positive side I loved their chicken (half chicken with 2 sides) Moist, smokey, tastey and loved the sauce. Beans were good and vinegar slaw left me blah. Others in the office had pulled pork and brisket. Just okay from everyone, no one was wow'd and odd that the brisked was chopped and not sliced. Also if you get the combo, the Brisket and Pulled Pork were tossed together in the container and hard to distinguish one from the other. Let me know if you go to Blue Heaven, still searching for Good Brisket ( I go to Chubby's in MD for that)

Final Cut at Hollywood Casino (Grantville)

My wife and I just celebrated our 18th anniversary. We occasionally go to Hollywood Casino / Penn National and have dinner at the Mountainview restaraunt at the casino while at the racetrack. Mediocre bar food at best and we assumed the casino did not care catering to gamblers. So when a friend of ours suggested "The Final Cut" for our anniversary dinner, we were hesitant but they know their food.
We amazed at the quality of food, ambiance and service. This is a hidden jewel in the area . Many people may shy away from the $30-$50 range for entrees but for a special occasion, this has to be on your list of choices. My wife had the dry aged steak was incredible and I had the lamb chops. My wife also had Soft Shell crab with Meyer lemon zabaglione and asparagus and I had Foie Gras Flatbread with Duck Confit and Duck Prosciutto. I have dined at the Hotel Hershey & Accomac several times and this beat them hands down.
Good wine selection, nice cocktail for my wife, the chef even stopped out for a chat.
The staff was wonderful and attentive (2 waiters) and made our special night ...special.

watching Steeler game in Gettysburg

I'm not sure if they have NFL ticket or not but 2 places I would suggest would be
http://www.sharpshootersgrille.com/ss.htm
http://www.abcbrew.com/gettysburg/ind...

Since the Eagles are on at 4, you may be fine. Both have good food and I love the milk stout on tap at Sharpshooters. I suggest calling to verify NFL ticket. They are both close to each other on the west side of town on route 30

Where can I get pork belly, pork femurs, beef drippings, and all the other things good butchers should have?

Try asian supermarkets in your area, most carry pork belly. Most of these markets do their own butchering.

Where can I get Imported Groceries in Harrisburg Area?

Hi Jimmy
Born in Newark, NJ and raised in Orange, NJ and the wife is from Toms RIver. We've been here for 17 years. Take a look at my post for Pomona's. They are closing on Sat and you'll be missing out on a great meal if you don't make it
If you head to Carlisle, let me know if it is worth the trip. BTW, where are you from ?

Where can I get Imported Groceries in Harrisburg Area?

I haven't been there but I heard that an Italian market has opened in Carlisle
http://blog.pennlive.com/life/2010/06/specialty_italian_market_and_c.html
For asian I head down to Maryland and pack away for a year or so. Try Alvera's for
Italian pastry and bread http://alvarobread.com/
Good luck, just buy a kaiser roll from Giant, fry up some Taylor pork roll and cry
The lack of supplies has just made me a better cook. When life gives you lemons make Lemoncello curd with local berries

Pomona's in Biglerville - a goodbye

In this culinary wasteland of Central Pennsylvania, we are unfortunatley loosing a gem. Upon arriving for dinner on Friday evening, we were notified that Sept 11th will be the last evening that Shaun Wolf and staff will be working there. We were notified that the owner has decided to turn go in the direction of soup and sandwichs (like we need a Panera bread copycat in this world). I live close to Pomonas and have enjoyed seeing them grow, eventually become the establishment that they blossomed into. Shaun has always been wonderful with the patrons and taking feedback to heart. Good luck to Shaun, and staff. Hopefully he will land in a kitchen locally and we will continue to enjoy his inventive twists on comfort food.
I will be out of town for the last weekend so I've made my reservations for Thursday and our last harrah with this fine establishment.

To see a review on Pomonas see below.
