Panera Bread -- I like what I've seen. What do you think?
And there are just under 1,500 in the country.
ISO Canned Pumpkin
Same here, my Safeway in the Inner Richmond has is year round. I used to buy it for my dog, and I became very familiar with where to find canned pumpkin!
Party food count
It depends. Are you planning on serving a meal, or just having some food for people to snack on? Ordering food for 50 for 58 adults plus 20 kids doesn't seem like enough to me. I would order food for 60, and maybe some extras of appetizers and other kid friendly items.
Westfield San Francisco Centre Food Emporium Recommendations
My standard pre-movie, let's eat at the food court meal, is the salad with chicken from Andale. I can't remember what they call it, but it's greens, avocado, goat cheese, tomatoes, a generous amount of chicken, and a tasty garlicky vinaigrette.
Curious, do you bag single veggies in the store or not?
I use as few bags as possible, only for multiples of small items or very loose items. Otherwise, everything goes into my cart as is. I've never seen the point in putting everything in it's own bag--it all gets washed at home. It just seems wasteful.
I do have a dog, so any bags that do get taken get re-purposed.
Government Cheese
I miss the stuff, it really does make the best grilled cheese sandwiches.
When I was a kid, my dad knew an elderly man who received the cheese as part of his aid. It was too much for the man to eat, so occasionally he would give some of it to my dad, figuring a family with two young kids could use it up it.
Need to find a place to get married!
Are you looking at the right place? It's Outdoor Art Club, not Show, btw. Their calendar actually lists that they offer a reduced rental costs on Sundays.

Need to find a place to get married!
The Outdoor Art Club is a beautiful location. I've worked as a caterer there many times, and it's one of my favorite places, There is a nice mix of indoor and outdoor space.
Favorite "texture" - do you have one?
Crispy. I love fried foods, when they are just right, usually just out of the fryer. I worked in kitchens for years and the main thing I miss is access to a professional fryer!
I also love crunchy/chewy, like the burnt edges of a lasagna or charred edges of a steak.
Etiquette of small plate and tapas restaurants
Exactly. I see the recommendation as a helpful suggestion, like when a restaurant says "our pizzas are about 'this big" and most people order one per person." Just a head's up so you know what you're getting.
Black & White Cookie
It's pretty good. They have a couple of items that are made to order, and the rest is grab and go. I've never tried the made to order items. I've had a few of their grab and go sides, and also coffee and a pastry.
The cafe at the California Academy of Sciences across the way is actually quite good. They have a bunch of different stations and make food to order. It's way better than typical museum cafe, served out of a hot line fare.
Restaurant to buy out for rehearsal dinner?
That sounds like a lot of fun! Especially the ice cream truck.
We did a whole restaurant buy out for our wedding (ceremony and reception), and I would recommend it to anyone.
Black & White Cookie
I was talking to friends from NYC recently about Black and White cookies. And then by chance we happened upon them yesterday, at the cafe at the de Young Museum, in Golden Gate Park.
Their Black and White was bigger than any I'd ever seen, about 7" across. It also had icing on both sides (top and bottom), as if it had been dipped as opposed to iced with a spatula. It was determined to be not exactly like a NYC black and white, but certainly a very good version.
Taking pictures at a restaurant
Yeah, I've found that people displaying boorish behavior in restaurants aren't often receptive to being asked to stop, no matter how nicely they are asked.
Case in point: while at a fairly fancy, otherwise quiet restaurant, I asked the woman next to me if she could turn off the sound on the video game her son was playing, as the blam! blam! blam! was really distracting. She got really pissy, and she and everyone at her table made of point of telling me I "ruined their whole dinner" as they were leaving.
Taking pictures at a restaurant
My husband and I had dinner at nice-ish (casual, but still over $100 for two) restaurant last weekend. The table next to us was celebrating a birthday, and took flash photos the entire time. A few photos? Fine. Flash going off dozens and dozens (not an exaggeration) of times? Really, really annoying. I was seriously considering asking them to a: learn to take photos without flash or b: take a picture of everyone at the table and then put the camera away.
reheating fish at work... faux pas?
I have to agree with the majority here--no fish in the office microwave. The smell is just awful.
I used to work in a space that shared a half-wall with the communal kitchenette. Someone used to microwave fish for lunch almost daily. Everyday, our work space stunk for a least an hour. Not pleasant.
20% mandatory gratuity to wedding caterer
I've worked with and for several catering companies, and a 20% gratuity is pretty standard. The gratuity is usually what is used to pay the catering waitstaff. Sometimes prices are listed as "$20.00++" with the ++ being "plus tax and gratuity."
Can you name foods and drinks where the original recipe has almost disappeared from mainstream restaurants?
Cobb Salad, with watercress and endive.
Can you name foods and drinks where the original recipe has almost disappeared from mainstream restaurants?
Totally. Even the finest restaurants that would never dream of using pre-made entrees still need to order pantry basics and cleaning products. The sight of a Sysco truck is not a sign of poor quality.
Please, please, please get rid of that SHARE thing on the left.
What Lucy said. It's super annoying.
Tips for my April Trip and areas for lunch and dinner
Q does do a good brunch. I live in the neighborhood, and it's my default place for taking guests to breakfast.
Cinderella Bakery is two blocks from the park, and has a good selection of breakfast pastries, including savory items. The serve Ritual Roasters coffee, too.

Your link goes to a place in Millbrae. The restaurant I'm talking about is in the Inner Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco. Same name, though.

My former company hosted our Chinese New Year party there, and the food was quite good. I have been to maybe 6 or so Chinese banquets (social events, but not weddings) at different locations and this was the nicest looking room by far.
Lenten food?
My family is Portuguese and Catholic, from SE Massachusetts, and we had fish and chips every Friday when I was very young. And it seemed like some sort of fish was always the Friday special at all the local restaurants.
Lenten food?
When i was growing up Catholic in the 80s, Fridays during Lent meant cheese pizza. Not exactly a sacrifice.
I'm kind of curious to see what others post. I'd like to try some Lenten recipes.
Help the Bride to be..:)
Marin Art and Garden Center is really nice. I've catered (as an employee, I don't own a catering company) a lot of weddings there. I considered it for my own wedding.
The Outdoor Art Club in Mill Valley is very pretty, too.
Where can I get Marzipan?
I recently bought some at Andronico's, in the Inner Sunset. They had two types, one with higher sugar content and one less sugar.
Sharing Food with Dining "Neighbors" at Restaurants?
A couple of friends and I were dining at The Richmond and a couple at a nearby table offered us the rest of their bottle of champagne. Only one of them was a champagne drinker, so they weren't going to finish the bottle. That was really fun.
Sharing Food with Dining "Neighbors" at Restaurants?
Definitely not normal, you just happened to sit near two oddballs.
