Help! Best hamburger in DC?

Agreed that the burgers at Good Stuff are not always great, though I love the concept/toppings on the Blazin Barn burger (like a banh mi). Shakes are superb. I just tried Bobby's Burger Palace last week and was very impressed. Serving is huge, they definitely gave it to me medium-rare as ordered (or even too rare, actually), nice place to sit, etc.

Anywhere in the DC/Bmore area that's like Amsterdam Falafelshop but with Meat?

It also doesn't have a serve-yourself toppings bar, does it?

Near Fairmont Hotel, Washington, DC

Bobby's Burger Palace serves a mean burger.

Anywhere in the DC/Bmore area that's like Amsterdam Falafelshop but with Meat?

Old City right down the street on Columbia Road! They have felafel and schwarma, and the same type of toppings bar.

Any new cheap eats discoveries around DC?

New cheap eats:
Fast Gourmet - get the Cuban!
People's Noodle Bar - ramen!
Shake Shack or Bobby's Burger Palace - yum
Zenebech Injera - Ethiopian, new to me, and delicious!
Muncheez Mania - get the meat pie, awesome
Cava Mezze Grill (Bethesda) - great Mediterranean fast casual
Pete's Apizza - quality New Haven style pizza

Any new cheap eats discoveries around DC?

It's not as good, and more expensive. But if you're staying in DC, it's a good option.

Sakuramen: Ramen coming to Adams Morgan

No, it's daily now, he's totally taken over the space. Not open on Sundays. Not sure of the exact hours. It's on Park Road just west of 14th, in the former "Senor Pollo" space IIRC.

Sakuramen: Ramen coming to Adams Morgan

Have you tried the People's Noodle Bar in the old Peruvian chicken place on Park Road? I finally tried it about 2 weeks ago and was quite impressed. The pork was tremendous and they were very proud of the sourcing. Really solid. I have not tried the new Ren's in Wheaton, but I was not that impressed by my one visit to their Bethesda spot.

Sakuramen: Ramen coming to Adams Morgan

My gosh, the restaurant openings just don't stop. Ramen coming to Adams Morgan, opening next Tuesday:

We Moved! Any must-hit spots in Logan/Shaw?

Queen of Sheba is pretty good Ethiopian, though Zenebech Injera is my new favorite by a mile. Sumah's for West African.
Fast Gourmet is a long walk but amazing and cheap, especially the Cuban. Taylor Gourmet, absolutely. DC Noodles on U Street is surprisingly good. Brunch at Bistro la Bonne, tops. Those are my favorites in the neighborhood.
Sweetgreen on P!

Wisconsin Food in DC, MD, VA?

I was just at the Standard this weekend and they have brats on the menu! 14th and S.

Recommendations to eat well and stay on my diet in D.C. Fish ? Italian ? greek ?

When I was dieting and at my birthday dinner at Central, I had a lovely simply prepared fish entree. Central is pretty great.

Birthday Cake near Dupont Circle

That's true. They're also much more expensive. The rugelach there are awesome.

Moving to Pentagon City-a summary, please

I did not see any downturn in Kabob's Palace quality when I was there for dinner (late-night) about two months ago. I love the food there and have for years. The chickpeas and spinach are both good, and the kabobs and bread are always fresh in my experience. Consistent place.

Never been to Ravi Kabob.

Kabob Palace is much better than the Food Corner on P STreet, which on my last visit had taken a downturn (about 1 month ago). The meat was spiced in a very heavy-handed and unappealing way, though I did enjoy the eggplant side. The bread there is not as good as at Kabob Palace either. They do give out a free soup which is nice.

Help! Little Serow Closed Tonight! Now what for one night only in DC?

Estadio is pretty great, subtly prepared Spanish tapas, and expert cocktails.

VA wine country trip this Sunday: winery and lunch suggestions?

We ended up packing a picnic lunch, and very much enjoyed Three Foxes and Linden. Less impressed by the cheezier Barrel Oak. Three Foxes had the biggest tasting (10 wines for $7), multiple games (bocce, cornhole, etc.) and nice picnic spots, and hammocks and a swing next to a beautiful spring! What a fun outing.
Also happened to pass by this apple donuts place, where the apple donuts were indeed spectacular.
Thanks for the advice!

VA wine country trip this Sunday: winery and lunch suggestions?

Hey there,

Some friends and I are going to spend Sunday touring around some wineries in VA, we will be coming from central DC in a car, with a designated driver.

I am looking for:
-recommendations for specific wineries (we are quite open, not big connaisseurs)
-recommendation for a place to eat lunch - or is it better to pack a picnic?

All advice is appreciated, thanks!!

Wisconsin Food in DC, MD, VA?

Kopp's is where I grew up eating frozen custard. It's the best!

Wisconsin Food in DC, MD, VA?

Although I have never tried custard at Dickie's, given what I know about Shake Shack's quality I think it's very likely that Shake Shack's is considerably better.

DC for a college kid

They're opening a ramen place on 18th Street! Also consider Mellow Mushroom (CHEAP and copious pizza place), Astor Mediterranean, and the AMPM Wine Shop for sandwiches (fancy prosciutto, cheeses, etc.) - all in Adams Morgan.

Go to the ramen place "People's Noodle" which is in a former peruvian chicken place on Park Road, just west of the intersection with 14th Street. I went this weekend and was impressed by the quality.

Fast Gourmet for the best Cuban sandwich ever, 14th and V.

Adams Express for cheap and solid Korean, Mt. Pleasant Street.

And, this is a must, have Ethiopian at Zenebech Injera. I finally tried this place last night and it blows othe Ethiopian spots out of the water. Higher quality, bigger servings, *and* cheaper. I am only going to eat here for Ethiopian from now on!!

Birthday Cake near Dupont Circle

I got some pretty good cake from Firehook a few weeks ago in Dupont. The German Chocolate Cake was solid.

Wisconsin Food in DC, MD, VA?

I am from Milwaukee too, and the frozen custard at the Dairy Godmother in Alexandria is awesome. It's a longish walk from the Braddock metro.
They serve frozen custard at the Shake Shack in Dupont, and it's delicious but not exactly the right consistency in my experience. Still worth eating!
Bratwurst...maybe check if DC3 has it on the menu? They have all sorts of hotdogs from different regions. The German Biergarten place on H Street might also serve it...as might the Standard on 14th Street.

Best things to eat in Glover Park

I will voice a second opinion and point you down Wisconsin Ave to Thomas Sweet's (and also, Dolcezza) for the best ice cream/Argentine gelato in DC! Not too far from Glover Park!

Cafe Saint-Ex: cooking with cereal

Finally checked out the renovated second floor on Sunday night and it is so nice and spacious! And empty on Sunday nights!

Best things to eat in Glover Park

Dumplings at Shanghai Tea House are pretty awesome. I second Surfside, big fan. The weekday lunch special at Heritage India is delicious as well. Not as cheap as it used to be, but still a good deal given how much they normally charge for entrees.

'Hound-worthy chow recs for a 4-day trip to DC, near Mt Vernon Square?

You're not far from H Street NE, where you will find excellent moules frites at Granville Moore's, as well as excellent ramen at Toki Underground. If you can go early on a weekday, you will be more likely to get a seat.
For pate/rillettes, etc, you should check out Againn, which is close to you. It's a high-end gastropub. I really was impressed by the pork belly entree. They also have a ton of beers, though Birch & Barley is probably the best combination for you (amazing beer selection, strong on the pates).
I definitely second the Ethiopian rec. Queen of Sheba isn't far from you. I feel like Etete has taken a downturn lately (2 disappointing visits over the last several months), so maybe consider Queen Makeda instead if you want to head to Little Ethiopia, on 9th Street between U and T NW.
At Fast Gourmet, get the cuban. It blows the chivito out of the water. You can also get a very good sandwich - good for a quick lunch at Mount Vernon Square - at Taylor Gourmet. Philly Italian hoagies, homemade roasted meats, really good.

Best Indian food in DC?

You should try Masala Art.
Is korma ever spicy? I thought it was kind of sweet and creamy.

Weekend in DC-help me choose

Dolcezza gelato is absolutely amazing, and there's a location just north of Dupont Circle. Definitely check it out.

DC Trip Report

Am so glad that Bistro Bohem worked out well, and thanks for your review! Yes, I heard that they're still working on perfecting the dumplings...
And nice that you found Kabob House! I regularly recommend it for people in Dupont Circle. Though I have to say on my last trip I thought the meat spicing was a little excessive... but I split hairs. I agree with you about the eggplant, I found it very impressive.

Best affordable food in D.C.?

You should go to Paul Bakery at the Archives metro, excellent pastries and pretty good sandwiches.
