uhockey reviews the 3/27/11 Pizza Crawl: Di Fara, L&B, Motorino, Lucali, Paulie Gee's

I agree about Paulie Gee's...I didn't enjoy the pizza there at all.

BEST PACKAGED ICE CREAM

I agree...Julie's Organic Ice Cream Sandwiches are very good!

L and B Spumoni Gardens once the weather warms up a bit...

L&B Spumoni Gardens

Carroll Gardens/Atlantic Avenue food excursion--please help!!

The pizza at Sam's is excellent..not to mention the decor!

Pies 'n' Thighs recs?

The Chicken Biscuit is def. the way to go...fried chicken breast on a biscuit with honey butter on one side of the biscuit and hot sauce on the other...really good.
I have not been impressed by any thing else on their menu..incl. the fried chicken box, the pies and the hot sauce mac and cheese.
If you go get the Chicken Biscuit for sure.

Favorite Mafia Hangout

Don't know if there's any truth to it but I've heard that Parkside Restaurant in Corona is/was a well known spot.
Also about 2 summers ago mass indictments took place and I believe they picked one guy up at Marco Polo on Court street.

Rub BBQ

The burnt ends are great I eat them way too often...but beware they sell out. Burgers are also very good but only served on Mondays bet 6-9. Cornbread and Fries are both OK.

Burger place on Smith in old Patois spot

Ugh, I completely forgot that my bland burger was accompanied with cold, greasy tater tots! And flavorless onion rings. Thanks for reminding me.

Burger place on Smith in old Patois spot

I haven't tried the new place on Smith but got delivery once from "Ultimate Burgers and Dogs" and the burgers and fries were not good at all. It's worth it to make the trip to 5 guys on Montague.

Help! Brooklyn Heights Delivery...

For organic (veg and non-veg) that delivers, try Siggys on Henry Street.
Here's their site: http://siggysgoodfood.com/
I'm a fan of their Salmon burger, and they have a good brunch on the weekend.

atlantic antic this sunday

Waited on line for at least 20 minutes...with charcoal smoke in my eyes..for La Mancha's grllled sardines...but it was worth it! They were great...also loved the individual sized key lime pies w/ whipped cream on top!
And I have to admit that stand where they spiral cut the potato on a stick then deep fry it was pretty good!
Unfort I was stuffed after eating a feta and sun dried tomato filo wrap at Sahadis and missed out on so much more food! Oh well next yr I have to start out earlier than noon...and yes it was ridiculously packed! btw that re-fillable soda stand had the best grape soda I've ever had!

any good "regular" delis in carroll gardens/cobble hill?

Its worth making the trip to Ziads near the corner of Smith and Bergen. It's your basic bodega with a very good deli. Good selection of Board's Head meats and cheeses. Reasonable prices, the deli guys know what they're doing. One of the few decent 24-hr options in the hood. Give it a try.

GODFATHER style Italian restaurant

I def agree with Ferdinandos

Moving to Brooklyn Heights

Siggys has a good Salmon burger and decent Mac and cheese.

Late-Night Pizza In Cobble Hill/Boerum Hill/Carroll Gardens?

I live in the area and, like you said, I havent found any pizzerias open that late, and it sucks!

Dominos is the only option I know of, and it def doesnt count!

I'd really like to know myself, someone please help us out!

Sandwich Tour - best places

The Caprice sandwich at Lamazou!

Don't Leave NY Without Eating...

Donut Plant Tres Leche Cake Donut is my favorite donut of all time

Def Russ and Daughters!

Star Tavern & Pizzeria in Orange: Sadly Not in the Hood, But a Great Pizza Just the Same

jfood got it...Tabatchnicks had the best in Millburn for many years...Back then I also used to love the hot dogs at Syd's..
Havent been to Millburn deli so I cant make the comparison, but Town Halls is def worth a try.

And the smokey joe sounds awesome! Im a big smoked fish fan..now that I live in the city make many weekend trips to Russ & Daughter...now I'm on a hunt for that smokey joe!

Star Tavern & Pizzeria in Orange: Sadly Not in the Hood, But a Great Pizza Just the Same

I havent had Star in years! I grew up in the area and Star has always been known for good pizza or whats sometimes known as "Bar Pie".
I always thought it was too oily too but now I'd like to give it another try.
My Dad would always get Clam Pies here, wish I had a slice right now!

I also grew up eating Sloppy Joes from Town Hall and they're also really good...now that I no longer eat meat I go on Fridays for their fried fish sandwiches wich are perfect.

GOOD BREAKFAST PLACES IN MANHATTAN?

I still like the brioche french toast at Noho Star..and their "Gold and Green" (Spinach + Cheddar) Omlettes when they got 'em

Lamazou-merci Dieu

Their Lamazou Caprice is one of my all-time favorite sandwiches.
They def know how to put together a sandwich so it doesn't shift and slide all over the bread (I hate that!)

Angelica Kitchen

It def has a particular odor to it....I used to still get desserts from the take-out window there but they got to be way too sweet and over-priced or completely flavorless.

L'asso: Long wait and bad service but good pizza. Agreed?

I used to go all the time when they had their special going: Dollar slices bet 4-7 Mon through Fri. Pretty good pizza, especially when made "well done".
But they stopped offering the dollar slices and I havent been back since.

Great Cheap Eats for Weekend in Manhattan

Sandwiches:

Lamazou on 26th and 3rd...great sandwiches, plenty of swine-free
options. DeFontes is further south on 3rd (21st street I think)..they have great eggplant. Both of these places have sandwiches that are $10 and under...DeFontes is a little more expensive I think.

Banh Mi from Saigon on Broome St...I get the house special vegetarian spicy. They're cheap (around $5) and taste great..a real good bargain.

best cheez-its flavor?

The orig is my favorite. I also like the BIG, but I can only buy cheez-its in small boxes because I have no self control at all with these things.

Oh, and who the hell buys Cheez-Nips? I cant believe they're still around! Horrible.

Must eats in Cobble Hill?

Yeah I try to avoid Joya..usually get Em Thai but I have to give Nine D a try.
Ki Sushi is pretty good for cooked dishes..the sushi is alright.
Lucali's is great! Eaton has pretty good dumplings and I like their shave ice in the summer. Sams has good pizza but I would stay away from anything else on their menu.

favorite guilty snack food

Cheez Its! I really cant have these in my apt. or I'll eat large handfuls of these things.
Lays...greasy...salty..so good
Those Qudratini brand mini wafer cookies..vanilla,choc, or hazlenut..these also get eaten handfuls at a time.
Almond Thins
The Entemanns All Butter Pound Cake Slices (the packaged single slice)..I find that Entenemanns tastes a little too artificial nowadays but I cant kick these slices! I like to heat them up and eat with Vanilla ice cream.
The Whole Grain Goldfish Crackers
Most recently, the Jalapeno-Cheddar Trader Joe's brand Cheez-Its..these are like crack to me!

Good, inexpensive, lunch near SVA (23rd & 3rd)

Have you tried Posto? Very thin crust pizza, but its pretty good. Its on 18th and 2nd and I know that they have lunch specials that are probably around $10

I also co-sign all the Lamazou suggestions.
