Imperial Palace in Flushing
It's been a couple of years since we went to IP, is it still good? And what should I order? Last time we ordered sizzling sable with black bean sauce, oysters in XO sauce, crispy chicken, pea shoots with crab, and crab with sticky rice. I was still thinking about sizzling sable with black bean sauce, crispy chicken (for my kids) but was wondering what else to try? salted duck tongues with pepper - is this a version of salt and pepper duck tongue? And are the Peking pork chops good? Any other suggestions are welcome! A kid friendly dish would be great too, they are somewhat adventurous eaters but do have their limits. Thanks!

National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show - ABQ
I am headed there on Friday. I wouldn't miss it. There will be a couple of local eateries represented, as they produce salsas for sale. Cervante's and Garduno's have attended in the past. However, this is by no means a venue for eateries but vendor's offering a wide assortment of hot sauces, dry rubs, pickled products, salsas, cooking equipment, etc. I've been going for years and it is a good time. Be prepared for large crowds and bring some tums, prilosec, etc.! I hope you go and if you do, that you enjoy yourself!
Imperial Palace in Flushing
Is IP still open and worth the visit? I will be flying in with my family around 5PM, Dec. 16th and wanted to stop in for a bite before we head north to visit family. We ate here last year and thoroughly enjoyed the food. We had the crab and sticky rice, pea shoots with crab, sable with black bean sauce, oysters in XO sauce, and the crispy fried chicken.
Is the quality still good and if so, is there anything new that's a must try, besides what I listed above?

Where to have drinks in Santa Fe?
It's still touristy but the Coyote Cantina is good. I like the Del Charro Saloon too. But I think you are headed for a crowd regardless of where you go this weekend.

I am coming home to NYC for a family re-union of sorts. Part of our plan is to take my family, 25-35 people, in a small bus around NYC. We would like to stop in Flushing for dim sum. Any recommendations for a large group in Flushing. I really enjoyed Imperial Palace at X-Mas but we were thinking dim sum would be great this time around, especially given the number in our party. Imperial Palace - still good or other recommendation
Peter, thanks for the reply. Was without internet while visiting my parents in upstate NY. We did make it to the New Imperial Palace and enjoyed everything we had. We had the sizzling sable with black bean sauce, oysters with XO sauce, crab and sticky rice, pea shoots and crab, and 1/2 roasted chicken. I would say our group enjoyed the sable the most, with the oysters a close second. I will go back here the next time I am back in NY. The food and service were excellent.
Imperial Palace - still good or other recommendation
Am flying in to LaGuardia tomorrow mid-afternoon and was hoping to stop in Flushing for a quick meal before we head upstate to visit my family. Is Imperial Palace still good? Or is there another restaurant that stands out? I have kids that are fairly adventurous eaters but someplace that will have dumplings or some dim sum items would be a plus. Thanks!

My favorite is Giovanni's in ABQ, on San Pedro between Gibson and Zuni. Just a slice of pie with a coke takes me back to being a kid again. I also like Dion's and Saggio's.
Grants, NM - breakfast, lunch and dinner
Most places in this area of New Mexico will feature dishes that include chile. That being said, you might try La Ventana. It's been a long time (4-5 years) but they did a decent steak the last couple of times we went there. Also, Badlands just won an award for its green chile cheeseburger, however, I'm sure it's not the only thing they serve. Even more casual is Lottaburger, great burgers, fries and shakes. The truck stop in Milan, Petro, has decent diner fare. Unfortunately, that's all I got. There's not alot to choose from in Grants. Have a safe trip!
German cuisine in Telluride?
It's been a while since I have been to Telluride but there used to be a place called Leimgruber's but they were sold maybe 5-6 years ago. Not sure if there is another German place in Telluride though. If you don't mind spending some money Alred's at the midpoint of one of the lifts was really good. I also enjoyed the New Sheridan Chop House. But again this is about 3-4 years ago. You might try running a search on Telluride as there was a post not too long ago. Good luck and have fun.

ABQ: Recs for a great STEAK?
It's been a while but I always liked the Rancher's Club at the Hilton. It's a bit pricey but great food and service. Great American Land & Cattle up on Tramway was enjoyable! Delicious Dives in Santa Fe?
I usually do burger, whole or chopped green chile, then cheese. That way the cheese keeps the green chile from falling off and the chile is warmed as well. As to cheese, use your preference, cheddar, american, swiss are all good. I love blue cheese too but some think it overpowers the flavor of the chile. One tip that my wife got me onto was sprinkling garlic salt on the green chile before you put it on the burger. I may have to get one for lunch now.
New Mexico this weekend - HELP!!!!!
In Santa Fe, I have a couple of suggestions for southwestern/new mexican, for NM red or green chile; Horsemen's Haven on Cerillos (southend of town), Castro's on Rodeo , Tommasita's ( I believe on Gudalupe), or La Choza (nestled by intersection of St. Francis & Cerrillos). Haven't been to the under-new management Coyote Cafe but check if the the rooftop Coyote Cantina is open (seasonal). Fun place for appetizers and cocktails, if the weather is good. For green chile cheese burgers, try Bobcat Bite. And if you wish to try Mexican Coastal cuisine, yeah I know we're not even close to a large body of water but it is good, try Mariscos Costa Azul (on Cerrillos). Sushi in Vegas - on a budget
I have searched the Board for posts related to quality sushi in Vegas and just wanted to see if there are any recent recommendations for AYCE sushi. Not looking to do omakase at Nobu or Okada just looking for fresh, quality fish. Will be visiting for two days and already plan a visit to LOS for my Thai fix. Any suggestions for quality sushi or a great AYCE place would be appreciated as well? This is a business trip but I have a limited per diem, so cost is a consideration. Thanks!
In NM for the first time...
On your way up from Las Cruces, you can stop in the small town of San Antonio and eat at either the Owl Bar or Manny's Buckhorn Tavern. Either of these places has great green chile cheeseburgers. Keep in mind that green chile has a bite to it. I would agree with the suggestion of Chope's, awesome rellenos. Any other suggestions really kind of depends on what kind of food you want to eat. Do you want local New Mexican fare (spicy) or are you less adventureous? In Santa Fe, we like Castro's and Horsemen's Haven for New Mexican. If it's warmer, we love taking guests to the Coyote Cantina for drinks and hors douvres.

You might try Ming's Dynasty on Eubank. Dim Sum is really good on the weekends. I have also heard good things about ABC, I believe on Menaul?? but haven't made it there yet.

If you are in Socorro, you could always take a short trip down to San Antonio, NM (1 exit south on I-25) and visit either the Owl Bar or Manny's Buckhorn Tavern for awesome green chile cheeseburgers. While the Owl is my sentimental favorite, I hear Manny's has a pretty awesome burger these days. In town, the El Camino, on California (Main) Street, used to have great breakfasts and pretty good diner fare. Their green and red chile is good too! I haven't been in about a year or so, so I don't know if it stillis up to par. Perhaps someone else can chime in.

I am headed out to NY in October with my 4 year old daughter and were wondering if Gum Fong has re-opened or if there is a comparable dim sum establishment in Flushing that you would recommend?

Albuquerque - butcher?
You might try Kellers, they have some pretty good cuts of meat. They
have a location on Eubank and one on the West side. Don't know about
dry aged but you can always give them a call. Alpine Sausage Kitchen on
Indian School is a German butcher, not sure if they have dry aged but worth checking into. They have great smoked pork chops and cold cuts though. Good luck!

Gil's web-site is an awesome resource for someone new to the State. I do recommend Ming's Dynasty up on Eubank for Chinese, especially dim sum on the weekends but his other food is good too. I have heard good things about ABC Chinese but have never been. As to other recommendations, I've always enjoyed Giovanni's on San Pedro for NY Style pizza. Cafe Dalat or May Hong for Vietnamese. Shogun or I love Sushi for sushi. La Cafe Miche, Seasons (it's been a while), Artichoke Cafe, or Rancher's Club (steakhouse) at the Hilton for more upscale. India Palace, Marisco's La Playa (Mexican Coastal, the Santa Fe locations rock, haven't tried ABQ yet), Mykonos Cafe Taverna (Greek) and Dagmar's Delectables (German) offer more exotic fare. They have great food and are reasonably priced.
Telluride, CO, must eats for young honeymooners
Allred's at the top of the Tram to Mountain VIllage was good the last time we were there. Pricey but the food was great. If you don't go for the food at least go for a cocktail in the lounge. Awesome view! I also recommend Baked in Telluride and Fat Alley BBQ for more reasonably priced fare. Congrats and have fun!
