Khai Hoan in Tempe (Apache Blvd between McClintock and Rural). From what I understand, it is run by a the owner of Cyclo's sister. Inexpensive and delicious, not glamorous, but that's what makes the place charming and homey.

Literally right next door to the east of the W Hotel on Buckboard Trail, is Fusion and another little place called Cin Cin. Two of my favorites for Old Town Scottsdale that doesn't get much mention on here.

The Coconut Club Bar and Grill on Mill Avenue has Loco Moco on their menu. I haven't had it, but I'm a big fan of their Extreme Ramen soup and Local Kine Fried Rice. Located on Mill and 4th Avenue, upstairs across the way from Caffe Boa.

If you don't mind driving 4 more miles south of that intersection there are some nice choices all in one area (Chandler Blvd/Arizona Avenue). El Zocalo serves wonderful Mexican food and has a lovely patio.

Favorite "Unknown Restaurants" - Phoenix
I found this tiny little eatery in a brand new strip mall on Lindsay and Pecos in Gilbert called CHEF H Restaurant and Grill. It's brand new and virtually unknown, but it is wonderful! Mostly Mediterranean food, I picked a Mix and Max lunch special of chicken kabob, hummus and tabouli, but Chef H brought me a sample of all their sides to try. In the land of chain restaurants, I am really pleased that there is a place by my house like this. I will definitely be a regular.

Bachelor party ideas (Tempe)
Since you are staying at Sheraton Mission Palms, I'll suggest a few fun places close by. Ditto the suggestions for Casey Moore's Oyster Bar, Rula Bula Irish Pub and the Library. Definitely check out Zuma Grill - fun atmosphere, pretty good food, lots of eye candy. Cherry Lounge & Pit is a dance/night club that's right next door to your club as well, and you can book VIP tables there as well - they definitely accomodate bachelor/bachelorette parties.

Ziggylu!! I stopped in to pick up their incredible White Pizza for lunch today and I was surprised to see all those signs mentioned above - gone!! And I knew what you were talking about before because I saw them myself. Have you had a chance to stop in yet? :-)

From Safeway, it has to be their Signature Soups! I love their Tuscan Tomato Basil soup, plus there is a new one out called Creamy Pumpkin Soup (I imagine its taking the place of the butternut squash soup that was my favorite.

My vote goes to Takamatsu on the NW corner of Arizona Avenue and Elliott Rd. ;-)
Wild Horse Pass Comments
My boyfriend and I went there for our 8 year anniversary back in August. It was nice that our server addressed me as Mrs. Curtis - I believe they assumed that we were married because of such a long relationship, but it was a classy gesture nonetheless, so I didn't correct him :-) An incredible experience from start to finish and truly first class. Love, love, loved it!

Grill Square in Mesa (Fiesta Mall)
Ok - so I finally checked Grill Square out today for lunch. I really love what they have done with this space, the decor is lovely and the service was very attentive and friendly. I definitely think it is in a strange location, but like another poster said, there isn't much competition closeby.
For my appetizer, I chose the Three Dips Lavosh & Foccacia. I enjoyed this very much, very flavorful garlic hummus, pesto and sun dried tomato tapenade.
I ordered the Grill Square Shroom Burger - the burger was just okay and the flavors were good, but the bacon on top was way too fatty and undercooked. They didn't render the fat down enough - so being that this was my only criticsm, I told our server about it and suggested that maybe they use center cut bacon? She was appreciative to hear our feedback and would relay it to the kitchen.
I'm rooting for this place to be successful and would give it another try.
House of Tricks -- Tempe
Had lunch here with some out of town business associates today and it was great! The weather was beautiful around noon, so many people opted to sit outside on the patio. I had the beef tenderloin salad and it was absolutely delicious.
Dual in Phoenix East Valley
Yes, unfortunately it closed earlier this year. Sad...it was a great concept with wonderful food.
Far East Mesa Places?
Red, White & Brew and D Vine Wine Bistro are not too far away from you in Mesa. I haven't been to these locations, but have been to the locations in Chandler and enjoyed my experiences! Great service and good food at Red, White & Brew - the pizza looked great. Haven't tried the menu at Dvine yet though, but DBF and I stopped in for a glass of wine and thought the place was absolutely charming.

Well, its not new, but Sixshooters Sports Bar & Grill is on the NE corner of Rural and University. Tavern on Mill would be within walking distance as well.
PHX: Filipino Good Eats?
I haven't tried the adobo yet...that's next on my list, but I'll have to admit that I wasn't impressed with their pancit either. I had it with chicken, it was so shredded that it blended in with the noodles, it was incredibly salty - but then again, my dad makes the best pancit, EVER - LOL ;-). The lumpia was really good, a little different, but tasty nonetheless. I never do get around to visiting the some of the places in Chandler, because my brother lives there and his wife cooks it Filipino food all the time for me.
I would love to meet sometime for Lumpia Factory, haven't been there yet!! Anyone else wanna go?
