Just ordered a dozen glory hole doughnuts
What is the pricing? I couldn't find anything on their website. Thanks!
Are there any korean or malaysian restaurants close to Eaton Centre
12'O Lunch on Dundas (south side) near Chestnut is Korean. I've never been so can't vouch for quality. There's are review on BlogTO.

Tiffinday Delivery
Has anyone tried ordering from www.tiffinday.com. If yes, were the meals timely delivered and more importantly, were they tasty?
Thanks in advance.
Blackhoof - how long is the wait on Saturdays?
Usually, for busy places that don't take reservations, I go for opening. Unfortunately on Saturdays, me getting there for opening is not possible and a friend wants to go (can only do the weekend). What is generally the best time on Saturdays for the least amount of waiting? I'm getting grumpy with age...a 30ish minute wait would be ok, 90 minutes would not be ok. Thanks in advance!
Mezes or other small plates
A friend is visiting and has requested mezes one night. Is there anywhere worth a visit on the Danforth? Any other suggestions for small plate type places? My friend doesn't eat a lot of meat, so less charcuterie, more dips and veggies. Thanks in advance.
Saskatoon recommendations
I will be in Saskatoon for 4 days for work. So, where should I eat?! I will be staying downtown and I won't have access to a car. I eat everything but it would be nice to have some lighter options too. Thanks in advance!
ISO Gai Loong/Ham Siu Gok Recipe
Sorry, I don't read chinese but from what I can tell from google searches, Haam Sui Gaau and Ham Siu Gok are the same things. From these google searches, it would appear that Haam Sui Gaau/Ham Siu Gok are NOT the same as gai loong (or at least the things I consider to be gai loong). I originally thought they were the same as gai loong based on this thread which did not include a picture of the finished gai loong:
http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?/topic/66463-ham-siu-gokgai-loong/
It would seem that Haam Sui Gaau/Ham Siu Gok are the "football" shaped pasteries that are usually golden brown in colour. What I am looking for are off white in colour after frying and are in the traditional pleated dumpling form. The gai loong pastery is not as moochi-like as Ham Siu Gok but are definitely made from glutinous rice floor at least in part.
ISO Gai Loong/Ham Siu Gok Recipe
Any fellow toishanese out there with a gai loong recipe they can share? I'm been told that gai loong (chicken cage) is the same as ham sui gok, is this true? None of the ham sui gok I've had at restaurants resemble the homemade gai loong I had as a kid. In particular, I've never found ham sui gok filled with ground pork, dried shrimp and peanuts.
Any links to sites with toishanese recipes (in English) would also be grately appreciated! Thanks in advance.
ISO Singaporian style radish cake - downtown TO
I treked up to Congee Queen and I was disappointed. The radish cake was like how Chocolatemama described above with respect to the radish cake at Congee Wong - deep fried, hardly any chili, egg, or shrimp. It was better than the radish cake I had at the congee place in the same mall as J-town but not as good as the radish cake I had at Congee Wong (the one at Leslie and Finch) I had earlier this year.

ISO Singaporian style radish cake - downtown TO
Is this available at any of the places in Chinatown or anywhere else downtown? It's a standard item (I think it's usually called chili turnip patties in English) for most congee restaurants uptown such as Congee Wong. Thanks in advance!
Anything good near Massey Hall?
The bar in the lobby of the Pantages Hotel (around the corner on Victoria) has OK martinis. There is a bar menu but I can't comment on the food.
sukhothai - now nearly every day of the week
If you order the regular pad thai, you will get what foodydudey describes - a brown mass of noodles and basically nothing else.
Now if you order the Sukhothai pad thai (I think it's an extra $1 or $2) you will get what pinstripeprincess describes.
Now if you bring a personal pic from Thailand for their wall, you'll get a free pad thai - not sure the freebie is the regular or special version!
Chic Chinoise 214 King St W - Anyone Been?
Met a friend for lunch recently, the food was generally tasty but expensive! With tax and tip it was about $70 (no booze), although we did order a bit too much food. For price versus quality, I would prefer to go to Lai Wah Heen. A very small order of chinese brocoli was $12! The dim sum was generally OK - har gow, crab and pea shoot dumplings, black bean short ribs were all good but not amazing. Disappointments were the shanghai soup dumplings, green onion pancakes, taro cake and congee. The service was attentive.
Yuzu - new Japanese restaurant in Entertainment District
Has any one tried Yuzu yet? It's on Adelaide, a bit east of Duncan. I was in Japango the other night and saw a poster for this place advertising a Friday izakaya menu and cocktail specials. Apparently Yuzu is run by the sister of the Japango owner.
Wanda's Belgian Waffles - Toronto
Has any one tried the new waffle shop near Dundas Square? I've tried them twice now and still reserving judgment. I've never had a yeast based waffle prior to Wanda's so I don't have a good frame of reference. The first time, I saw a customer walking out with a waffle covered in chocolate, whipped cream and bananas and I just had to try it. I swapped out the bananas for strawberries - for almost $7 with tax, I got one waffle, maybe 3 strawberries, two squirts of redi-whip and chocolate sauce. In my opinion, that was too expensive. The waffle itself was yeasty in a good way but there was too much chocolate sauce (better than generic ice cream style syrup, but not great) and things were soggy by the time I got home. The second time, I was ambushed by the smell of waffles again and tried a maple waffle without any trimmings (just under $3). The maple waffle had odd junks in it, maybe maple sugar or candy? It was tasty but not outstanding. Both times, it took longer than expected to get my waffle, this might be part of the growing pains of a new place. I also found the service both times, a bit uncomfortable for a lack of a better description, i.e. staff swearing at each other in front of customers, the owners (i.e. I'm guessing) reprimanding the staff loudly in front of customers. Has any one had a better experience?
BeerBistro closed - anyone know what's going on?
There was an explanation posted on the door the last time I walked by. I don't remember the exact details, but there was some sort of structural problem (I think it related to the ceiling) that needs to be repaired.
First-Time Visitor with One Dinner in DC - Please Help!
Would a solo diner feel out of place at of any of these suggestions? I also will have one free night in DC for dinner. I'll be staying near the zoo but would be open to any place within a reasonable cab ride. Thanks in advance.
hu tieu my tho or my tho seafood noodle soup in Toronto?
Any suggestions for places downtown?
O'Grady's Au Gratin chips - remake?
They appear to have been a limited run! I have been looking for them for the last two months to no avail (at least here in Toronto).
One Wednesday in Manhattan
I will be in NY for the first time next week for work. I will only have the Wednesday to myself to walk around the city. Any ideas for a chowhish one day itinerary including breakfast, lunch and dinner recs. It'll just be me so I would prefer places where a solo diner won't feel out of place. If there's any TO expats out there, maybe you can suggest places for things not available in Toronto. I am open to all types of food and price ranges. Thanks in advance!
Lunch Places Near King and Peter
I'm already a big fan of Burrito Boyz and Sandwich Box. La Limonada sounds good, bit of an odd name for place selling carribean food?? More recs are welcomed!
Lunch Places Near King and Peter
What's good in the immediate area or within 10 minute walking distance? Open to any time of food. Looking more for take out places, rather than sit down. Thanks in advance!
Alternative to Terroni?
I only really enjoyed the pizzas at Terroni's and the pizzas at Mercatto are as good if not better. The sandwiches at Mercatto are also tasty. I have not tried their pastas. The service at Mercatto is so much better than Terroni's that I am amazed that I ever tolerated the snotty service at Terroni's. On my last visit to Mercatto, the server offered to substitute an item on a pizza! Mercatto cuts their pizzas! The servers are efficient and yet still friendly. I have never experienced any attitude even when there has been a full house.
Whole grain muffins
I do a one to one substitution with spelt flour (I use Bob's Red Mill) and find that my muffins don't turn out heavy or dense. Spelt is a whole grain.
Really Dietetic Salad Dressing
Look for thai/vietnamese style dressings - they never include oil except maybe for a dash of toasted sesame oil. This is my standby thai recipe:
2 green onions, finely sliced
2 shallots, finely minced
juice of 1 lime
4 tbsp fish sauce
2 tsp sugar (or equivalent of splenda)
1-2 thai chilis (or to taste)
This keeps in the fridge for a few days. I use this with green salads (especially nice when topped with rare steak slices), aisan style slaw (cole slaw mix with added cilantro, peanuts), rice noodle salads (add carrots, bean sprouts, cucumber, cilantro). It's also good over plain steamed fish or to dip grilled shrimp.
Ottawa recs...eating out with picky friend
Looking for some less expensive recomendations (mains preferably in the $20 range) for the weekend. I'll eat everything, but my friend is picky. No seafood. No red meat. No pubs. No "fancy" restaurants (hence, the request for cheaper recs -I would love to try Beckta, but it's not going to happen). Any ethnicity is ok, but there has to be a chicken or pasta/veggie option. We'll have access to a car, so location can be flexible.
Any Ottawa ex-pats out there? Anything you can't get in Toronto and look forward to when you go back?
Thanks in advance!
Recs for Slow Cooker Cookbook
Any suggestions? Google yields a plethora of websites for slow cooker recipes? Any sites in particular that you like?
Looking for Chinese porktail stew recipe
I've had no luck trying to google any recipe. This was a favourite childhood dish but I have no idea where to start. It's not like chinese oxtail stew, i.e. not dark and anise flavoured. Maybe a Toisanese recipe? If no one knows what I'm talking about, I would also be interested in recipes for porktail stew generally, maybe a Caribean style stew? Thanks in advance.
Japanese near Princess of Wales Theatre?
Has any one been to Fune recently? Any other suggestions for sushi places that are a quick walk to the theatre? Thanks in advance.
Business Dinner Recs Near Marriot Wardman Park
I will be in Washington for a conference next week and I am looking for recs for a nice client dinner. We will be staying at the Marriot Wardman Park (I am assuming this is somewhere downtownish), so anywhere within an easy cab ride would be preferred. I'm not sure how adventurous my fellow diners, but personally I love trying new things. Thank you in advance.
