ANY restaurants in Bruges open on a Monday?

Look at Den Duyver and Den Huzaar. We were just at both places last Monday! Bon Appetit!

Bruges for 3 nights

Just returned from our trip: Den Duyver (we had lunch there); Den Huzaar; De Koeste (moules frites). Have a wonderful time!

Midtown/Theater District dinner rec for group 6-8?

Looking for a restaurant that will appeal to many palates. Old friends coming in from California, so, relatively quiet, where we can hear one another speak. Entrees in $20's, so not overly expensive. Good, solid food; good, friendly service. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Joey Garlics to open in W. Hartford, CT??

Was at Joey Garlic's in Newington and they said they WERE moving into the old Barb's pizza. It will not be the full menu, but rather, pizza and subs. Hoping for a June opening. (I haven't seen any progress, but you never know...!)

Reuben's Deli, West Hartford

Oh, just to clarify: Sally and Bob's is only open for breakfast and lunch.

Reuben's Deli, West Hartford

Yes, you’re both right. Was there again on Thursday for lunch and had a fresh turkey on rye, Russian dressing and all... and it was the best I’ve had in a long, long time. Good sized portion -- took half home! Go, and enjoy... and report back. Hope you have a good experience.

Maine Fish Market - *ugh* - East Windsor, CT

Glad to learn you have had much better experiences. Where are you thinking of going tomorrow night? Bon appetit!

Maine Fish Market - *ugh* - East Windsor, CT

That place sounds awful. I don’t know if you are still in town for another dinner, or what your food cravings will be, but it may be worth your while to come into West Hartford Center where there are many restaurant options and wonderful food. It will be worth the extra drive time.

Reuben's Deli, West Hartford

It seems like Reuben’s is in trouble. I’ve noticed that they have cut back their hours... and when I hear about smaller meat portions, it’s a bad sign.
I hate to see a restaurant fail -- especially a deli! -- but I also feel that they had a wonderful niche in West Hartford, but wouldn’t make the necessary investment to get fabulous meats and more “authentic” recipes.
Sally & Bob’s on N. Main has excellent corned beef, made on the premises... and is a fraction of the price.

Breakfast spots between Windsor CT & Bradley Airport? And how about espresso?

We were at Whistle Stop Cafe on Sunday for the first time and it was wonderful. Friendly, efficient service, wonderful food, generous portions. The kitchen knows what it is doing and does it well. I know we’ll be regulars. (just wish we lived closer!) Definitely go there... and enjoy!

Another Itinerary (shocker) for first time trip next week - need guidance please...

Funny, I'm headed to NOLA this weekend to celebrate my birthday on Friday! Have reservations at Commander's, Patois, Restaurant August, and Emeril's. I appreciate the info re: dressing up. Good memory jog for me. Best wishes, happy birthday, and bon appetit!

Joey Garlics to open in W. Hartford, CT??

It seems like such a small spot for Joey Garlic's. Anyone know what's going into the old Bennett's card shop in the Center? I saw a town zoning sign in the window...

Treva, West Hartford Center: a new gem!

When Cocoa opened, I looked at the menu, the offerings and the prices and walked away. Never had the "pleasure." I do hope that Treva succeeds. That's why I'm trying getting the word out there. Maybe I'll regret that when the place is packed and I can't get in!

Treva, West Hartford Center: a new gem!

Treva has been open for less than two weeks and I've already been there 3 times! No, I'm not an owner! First time was for lunch and it turned out to be their first day open. What a treat! We chose panini: "Polo," chicken & pesto for my husband; "Verdure," vegetables, pesto, mozzarella for me. I haven't tasted mozzarella that fresh since I've been to Italy. Apparently, they have their cheese imported every 3 days... I say no more on that topic. Excellent, tasty, and reasonably priced. (We each took half of our panini home!)

We went back right after Christmas with a group of 5 and again, were delighted to have the freshest ingredients to create such flavorful dishes. We started with an appetizer of (again) the freshest cheese and meats. The bread is also outstanding. I particularly loved the Tagliardi, a chicken, butternut squash and pasta dish. Other dishes overflowing with praise at the table was the Tagliatelle, (veal, mushrooms, asparagus), the Porchetta (pork, polenta, brussels sprouts), Gnocchi... Well, if I wrote out the entire menu, you'd get my point!

After work this evening, we popped in for some pasta before heading home and once again, were thrilled with our meals. Food at Treva is excellent with a focus on fresh and fantastic! Service is attentive, friendly, helpful, and efficient. The talented chef/owner, Dorjan Puka, came to our table and was most kind, generous, and grateful. I wish him and Treva great success as word catches on about how wonderful this place is.

Reuben's Deli, West Hartford

You don't have to be Jewish to cook Jewish-style food. You just have to know food! Or, get good recipes from people who do know.... Reuben's, sadly, is clueless in the kitchen.

Reuben's Deli, West Hartford

I'll add that Corey Wry's Catsup and Mustard is also a fun place with consistently creative, delicious, reasonably priced food. A new favorite!

Reuben's Deli, West Hartford

I looked up Reuben's on Chowhound today to see what others were saying. I have to say that I have been there a number of times and today will be my last. Each time I go there is a significant problem with the food, the service, the management. There are significant menu problems, namely they are clueless as to what makes a good deli. They use a prefab turkey, not a breast off the bone, for sandwiches. Their matzoh balls can be used for paper weights. Today, I ordered chicken noodle soup and it tasted like celery water. A woman at the next table ordered a chopped liver sandwich that was runny. (!) I once ordered a chicken caesar salad -- and they put baby corn in there! (that was the waitress who didn't know how to punch in an order) It goes on and on.

The manager is always kind, offering to replace whatever disaster they presented, but NEVER gratis. Today, I ended up eating half of my husband's sandwich (roast beef that tasted processed on a stale bun) so we could eat together.

Talking to the waitress, I said that the kitchen needs better recipes to prepare Jewish style deli. Her response: "There aren't many Jewish cooks."

Oy.

Oh. Did I mention that a roast beef sandwich costs $11 and they charge 75¢ for cheese? Prices are high for such poor food quality and terrible dining experiences. I like to see restaurants succeed and I was happy to see Reuben's crowded at lunchtime, but I do think they need to do much better to survive.

First NOLA trip in 10 years and I need help - pretty please :)

Your post couldn't have been more perfect for me, as we are planning a return trip after many years. Please post a review and replay of your dining experiences. I do hope you have a wonderful trip.

Reservations necessary late October in Provence?

I'll be sure to reserve at least a day or so in advance since we will have that flexibility should we have problems getting an exact time/day. Many thanks for your feedback and help!

Reservations necessary late October in Provence?

Love your reply the best, CJT. Am trying (for once) not to over-plan and limit options! I just want to go, relax, ... and indulge! Thanks to all.

Reservations necessary late October in Provence?

Do you think it is wise to wait until we get to France, or must I make the reservations in advance? Thanks for your help.

Reservations necessary late October in Provence?

Heading to Provence late October and wondering if I need to make lunch and/or dinner reservations in advance as it is heading towards the end of the season. Will be in Avignon, Arles, Aix and Marseille.

Moderately-priced Dinner Challenge!

"Moderate" would be entree prices in the 'teens or less. (wishful thinking) I really don't want this meal to cost $300, but closer to $150 or so. Does that help? I know, this is what I get for being so vague! :-)

Moderately-priced Dinner Challenge!

Fair question and I apologize for being so vague! Fun = ambiance upbeat and not taking itself too seriously. Special = memorable experience. Ages: representatives in 20's, 40's, and 60's and perhaps a 6 year old!

Moderately-priced Dinner Challenge!

Here's the challenge: great food, fun, special, and yet moderately priced! We'll be a group of 6-7 and need a place that fits the bill. Can be any neighborhood in LA... Prefer not Chinese food, need some vegetarian selections, and... a place where we can hear ourselves would be most appreciated!

Who has the best lobster rolls in Ogunquit

I'll vouch for the Rose Cove cafe. Lobster roll is generous and delicious. VERY friendly service with a little fudge to sweeten the experience. Will be there soon!

NO buffet Father's Day Brunch - Greater Hartford

Looking for a nice place for Father's Day Sunday Brunch that does not have a buffet. Honestly, we don't need to eat that much and I can't tolerate all the jumping up and down from the table so that no one is ever seated at the same time! Any wonderful ideas? Nice atmosphere and terrific food. It can be "breakfast" as opposed to brunch, if you get my gist. Thanks!

La Tavola Waterbury CT

We were there, too, on Saturday night -- party of 4 -- and had a fantastic meal as well as great service. Our reservation was for 7 and we were promptly seated. With respect to the large party waiting for their table for an hour, it was probably due to people like us, sitting and enjoying our meal over time. (Sorry) Anyway, everyone's food was perfectly prepared, portions were more than ample, and our server was friendly AND available for anything we needed. When I make reservations, I always ask for a quiet or corner table to avoid additional noise problems. The bar was pretty noisy, but it seemed that most noise came from the large party tables. Parking in the neighborhood is a real problem. The other couple was told to move his car because he was "blocking" the sidewalk (HUH?) and apparently they were expecting people to come to the house. (Guess he could have put a garbage can in front of the house, like some of his neighbors!) So, big deal, we walked a little further. The restaurant is worth the walk, believe me. Oh, and be sure to order the nutella cake for dessert.

birthday night out in west hartford or hartford

Wood n Tap or Corner Pug are good pub type restaurants with good, reliable food. Wood n Tap has great fun food for groups. Their Monster Nachos are the best nachos you'll find anywhere -- and truly monstrous, size-wise! I would second Elements, but if there's much drinking going on, it doesn't strike me as a good place for boisterous fun, if you get my gist. Another great group place is the Afghan Shish Kebab in the Center. Food is terrific and they are well suited table-wise for a large group. Not cheap, but great food. Happy birthday!

Central Vermont lunch spot off 91N?

Driving up 91 North to Vermont this weekend, looking for a good place -- diner is FINE! -- to stop for a lunch break. Just want good plain food. Any ideas?
