Mexican Restaurant in Westchester

Wonderful suggestions everyone...All three localtions are very doable. Thanks again.

Mexican Restaurant in Westchester

I would love some suggestions for Mexican eateries in Westchester. Doesn't have to be anything fancy but just good fresh mexican food. We live in Somers and there is NOTHING around. Many thanks.

Vegas "Family" Neighborhood type dining

Kjs, I apologize if I inadvertently offended. I very much appreciate all the local suggestions and since I will be going to Vegas/Henderson area quite often I will have many opportunities to eat at the places on your lists. You know what you are talking about and I can't wait to try your suggestions. They are exactly what I was looking for, since I'm only an hour from NYC and can try all the upscale places there. Thanks again.

Vegas "Family" Neighborhood type dining

Kjs, you are the best! One of your other suggestions was Hash House a Go Go...where is that? Also, the Maple Tree? They sound very good for breakfast. One of the group is fond of egg benedict so I think the Hash House sounds like it would be great. Also, Ventano's in Henderson, do you have an address? Have you ever eaten there?

Vegas "Family" Neighborhood type dining

thanks to all of you who responded. There is lots to digest and I'm sure we will find reasonable places with decent food in which to eat from all of your suggestions.
Does anyone know if there is an In N Out Burger place on or near the strip. I thought I saw something mentioned about one near the MGM?

Vegas "Family" Neighborhood type dining

Kjs, We will be 6 adults, no children, and all cuisines are fair game. I have a niece who just moved to Henderson but we will be staying on the strip. Will have a car for a few days. We are interested in breakfast, lunch and dinners. Since we live close to NY city we frequent some high-end restaurants but especially enjoy "neighborhood" places that have decent food at reasonable prices, That is what I have in mind for Vegas. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Vegas "Family" Neighborhood type dining

I've been reading lots about the new/and or upscale restaurants in Vegas and my head is spinning. I would love to hear about some good family "neighborhood" type restaurants from some of the locals, perhaps a short trip from the strip. We will be there next week and would love to have some recommendations. Even some in Henderson, NV. Would love to hear from you. Many thanks.

43rd between 9th and 10th rec?

How about Carmine's in the theatre district...I don't know the exact address but you can find it via google. Family style, italian, great food, very large portions so you can share and not order too many dishes. I would skip dessert and if necessary, get an ice cream cone some where. Have fun.

Westfair Fish & Chips

I agree about the fish and chips from Westfair. Having lived in Fairfied, CT I've made many visits but something worth mentioning....during LENT (which is NOW), you can wait a long time for orders. Best to call in your order and pick up.

Basement Bistro - Earlton NY

WOW...I'm tempted to make reservations for my April birthday. It would be a two hour ride there and two hour's back....can it be worth that or can someone suggest a place closer to home. I've been to Blue Hill and Equus....don't suggest Per Se...spending that kind of money for a meal just plain turns me OFF.

Iron Horse in Pleasantville, ny Anyone?

MisterBill2...sorry for not reporting on the experience. I was very glad we were in the private room as I remember thinking when we entered the restaurant initially that it was a little noisey and not very impressive. But our table was beautifully decorated at the expense of our host so it added to the ambiance. The food was wonderful. I had the sear diver scallops for appetz (delicious) and my husband had the ny state foie gras (he said it was "different"). We both had one of the specials of the evening which was Artic Char. It was so mild and flavorful that I almost didn't think it was salmon. Dessert was also a "special". Very delicious and light chocolate layered creation with vanilla ice cream. All in all, a delicious...sorry to keep using this word... and very lovely plated meal. We would go again at our own expense.

Xaviars at Piermont

Perhaps the "regular" chef moved to Peter Kelly's new place X20 in Yonkers? We had lunch there a few days ago. Our group was large (about 20 people) and each and everyone was very pleased. Fixed prix lunch was delicious and beautifully presented. Also the views of the Hudson were lovely.

Worth a Drive in Westchester - your picks

We just had lunch at X20 Peter Kelly's latest (fixed prix) in Yonkers...beautiful dining room with all glass...views of the Hudson to die for. The food was excellent and also beautifully plated. Valet Parking very reasonable.

Restaurants in the New Year...

Iron Horse Grill - by all means...worth every expensive penny.

Iron Horse in Pleasantville, ny Anyone?

Thanks for the parking tip MisterBill2. We are having dinner there tonight (Sat) so I think parking in the station lot should be OK. I've been reading their winter menu on line and I'm just so impressed. We are going to be in a private room so I assume it is the waiting room you mentioned. Many thanks.

Iron Horse in Pleasantville, ny Anyone?

Thanks very much for all your replies. It sounds like we are in for a delicious dining experience....no one that I talked to had a negative thing to say about the Iron Horse. It is especially wonderful that we will be part of a small group, one of the party is a friend's husband who will be hosting a birthday dinner (tab on him) for his wife. YUM!

Honey Baked Ham alternative?

I have tried the Honey Baked Ham, paid a lot, and found it flavorless. I have discovered the Cook brand ham in my local supermarket...like A&P, but you could check in your local supermarkets, and I found it to be very flavorful and very inexpensive. I've doctored it up with a mixture of cider or pineapple juice, brown sugar, studded with whole cloves, and pineapple rings. DON'T OVERCOOK or it will be dry. Hope this helps.

Also, I have found in Trader Joe's a spiral ham for about $26...it a Colonial brand and it came with its own glaze and it was also delicious. But it is more expensive than the Cook brand ham.

Has anyone dined at Iron Horse in Pleasantville, NY? I would love to hear about any experiences there and also about the food. Many thanks.

Chicken Parm

I second CARMINE'S...I do NOT like chicken but went with a group to Carmine's in the theatre district and we shared several dishes, among them was chicken parm. The best ever....

Authentic Mexican Scene in Bridgeport CT

What about Taco Loco on Fairfield Avenue? Food is pretty good there.

Restaurants in the Mt. Kisco area?

I would call the Flying Pig in Mt. Kisco....local farm fresh food ingredients. I wouldn't be surprised if they could accommodate your special food needs.

Fraiche in Fairfield

This must be a new restaurant in Fairfield, CT. We used to live there, but we have eaten in both Bernards in Ridgefield and Jean-Louis in Greeenwich and both are excellent...and not inexpensive.

Creme Fraiche or Sour Cream?

I've tried a few commercial brands of creme fraiche to no avail....just plain yuck. Somewhere I saw a RECEIPE for making your own creme fraiche. I think it was a combination of sour cream and heavy cream and then you leave it for 24 hours at ROOM TEMP...Has anyone seen anything like this or facsimilie?

Little Italy, San Diego

We will be in San Diego at the end of October and the restaurant in Little Italy called Po Pazzo was suggested for our group of 7 who all have agreed on italian food. Has anyone eaten in Po Pazzo in Little Italy and if so, what dishes do you remember. Many thanks for any info.

B&B's and Eating in Camden Maine

We would like to go mid-week in October to Maine and would love to hear of recent visits. We would like to stay in a reasonably priced B&B and also have lobster. Do you have any recommendations to help us out. Thanks.

Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland

Thanks for the website on the Good Things Cafe. I like the sound of the 5 1/2 day course. Can you tell me, where did you stay when you attended the cooking course? Many thanks.

Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland

Do you mean Ballymaloe House (the hotel/restaurant) or the Ballymaloe Cookery School which is a few miles away on the farm?
