Pizza Mozza, Patina, Gjelina and Spago reserved. Where else should I eat?
Picca looks good too.

Thanks for the Persian suggestions JL! I looked at Providence, it looks great, I may swap.
Pizza Mozza, Patina, Gjelina and Spago reserved. Where else should I eat?
Will be visiting LA in a couple weeks from Seattle. After much research on this board I have made reservations at Pizza Mozza, Gjelina, Patina and Spago. Other place on my list to try are Ricky's Fish Tacos, Versailles, and Chichan Itza.
Also need a place for a weekday lunch downtown, weekend lunch in Pasadena, a dinner in Topanga Canyon and a dinner near UCLA. I will try almost anything but my SO eats pescatarian so fish or vegetarian options are essential. I'm most interested in places and food LA does best. Thanks!
small chickens
We keep kosher in our house and at U Village QFC you can buy a whole uncooked chicken as of last week for about $3.30 a pound. The chickens are typically under 4 pounds. The chickens are full of flavor and have more fat then their non kosher options. Do with it what you want but enjoy the taste!
kosher chicken
The QFC at U village is the kosher butcher in Seattle. The Albertsons on Mercer Island also has a kosher butcher. At the U Village QFC you can buy fresh, and often warm and/or cold cooked whole chickens. They also have frozen chicken nuggets and sometimes cornish hens. Many Trader Joe's carry fresh kosher chicken, either cut up, boneless breast and sometimes whole birds.
Old-Fashioned NYC-Style "Cantonese" Chinese-American Food in Seattle?
I ate 'Chinese' in NYC for years from hole in the wall take-out only places. Moved to Seattle over 25 years ago and tried to find what I missed. Beef with broccoli, egg foo yung in brown sauce and my favorite, shrimp with lobster sauce, fat pink shrimp in a pearl white thick semi liquid. I never did find anything like I was used to (tried Louie's in Ballard- horrible) and gave up looking long ago. Would love to try the stuff again!
This was comfort food when you didn't want to cook, For real? Chinese you went to Chinatown and often waited in lines to get into the best places. acgold7 don't turn in your card and thanks for posting this!
Seattle near Hotel Andra - family with elderly folk
I can't recommend much right around your hotel. Within 4-6 blocks; Etta's for seafood, Bisato if you want to try a "small plate" restaurant or Mistral Kitchen for modern NW. A quick taxi ride will get you to Tilikum Place Cafe, more European flavor or Metropolitan Grill for steak. I really liked the food the one time I have eaten at the Coterie Room but the space was very loud.
40th Birthday Dinner
Haven't been back to Rover's in a couple years. Last two visits our waiter was a large man with a large attitude that totally put us off. I am reluctant to go back because of him.
Cornish area
I have eaten at re:public on weeknights and the kitchen is still spot on. Great food!
Bridal shower - restaurant for brunch? Thoughts on Dahlia Lounge?
Hello rin,
Dahlia lounge has been around for many years so must have its fans. I have eaten there twice in the past year after not dining there for 10 years or so. I thought the food was just okay and for what you will pay I can't recommend it.
I would suggest looking into Cafe Campagne located in Pike Place Market or Ponti Seafood Grill located along the ship canal between Queen Anne and Fremont. Both are not very strong on vegetarian options but I'm sure they could work with you on this. Ponti is not normally open during the day but they do a lot of special functions.
Good luck and please report back!
Cornish area
The nearest restaurants that I would recommend are Mistral Kitchen on Westlake Ave and re:public also on Westlake but north of Denny Ave. Check out their websites to see what appeals to you. re:public pushes the bar scene but also has really good food, younger crowd then Mistral Kitchen.
Great steak for under 40$
Had delicious steak for under 40$ at Mistral Kitchen last night. They call it Teres Major after the shoulder muscle which it is. It was served thickly sliced with fingerling potatoes and porcini mushrooms. The steak was cooked just right, very tender and full of flavor. Don't know how long it will be on the menu but for 30$ i thought it was worth every penny. If i was to go back I'd get it with the excellent winter greens salad with its generous coating of a parmesan type cheese. Close to perfect winter meal, great service also.
Aragosta experience
Had dinner at Aragosta a couple weeks ago. The food and service was fabulous. We started with the Ahi tuna flatbread and the warm goat cheese truffle rigatoni. The small stuffed rigatonis were creamy and delicious. I’m not a fan of most restaurant “truffle” dishes but in this one the truffle flavor was subtle and complimented the goat cheese. The flatbread was creative and flavorsome, all the taste and textures worked so well, I could eat one of these everyday!
For the mains had the pappardelle bolognese, the lemon sole and a special. My mouth still waters when I remember the delicate pasta and succulent pieces of meat in the sauce of the bolognese. This dish was outstanding. The sole was served with a buttery risotto, another great tasting entrée. The special was polenta coated fried clams and pasta. I really liked the crunchy clams but there should have been more overall flavor to the dish.
Had two superb desserts, the warm chocolate bread pudding and the olive oil cake. My favorite was the airy olive oil cake served with lemon sorbet. Even being full the cake went down easy. Best meal I’ve had in Boston in awhile, hope to go back when in town!
From San Francisco; I want to eat good food, and have been hugely disappointed
Try Tilikum Place Cafe, Bisato, Mistral Kitchen, and re:public. All solid, each with it's own vibe.
Restaurant changes on Queen Anne
Time to start a new tread on this. The older similar one is now located on the Pacific Northwest board.
It looks like Tenoch Mexican Grill has closed and a new place is moving in. Plastic signs advertise for Five Fins – a fish grill. Anyone know anything about this?
Ototto Sushi, Enza Cucina (which was in the process of becoming Polpetta) and The Tea Cup are now gone. Pasta Bella closed in November.
Lloyd Martin opened in October. I have really liked the food the couple times I ate there, much better then the Bricco it replaced. Have not yet been to Mezcaleria Oaxaca.
Looking for advice on this list of Vancouver possibilities
Had a great time in Vancouver! Loved walking around False Creek. Saturday evening the four of us ate at Blue Water Café. The setting and food was great but the service was painfully slow. From when we were seated to when we left two and a half hours had passed. During the time we ordered a bottle of wine – it arrived, ordered two appetizers and four entrees. Then we waited and waited for the appetizers and after they were served, eaten and the plates removed, we waited and waited for our entrees. Didn’t dare order dessert for fear we would be there another 45 minutes. As for the food the Arctic Char and Ahi Tuna were the stand outs. Will not return due to the slow service.
What a contrast Sunday evening was . We went to Hapa Izakaya on Robson. Great space, great service and great food! The fish and chips roll, tuna avocado salsa dip and salmon sashimi were outstanding. Also loved the cheesecake! We were in and out in a little over an hour and spent about a third of what we did at Blue Water. Will definitely return
here even thought my husband and I were probably 20 years older then the other patrons!
Had lunch Sunday at the busy Granville Island Market. The food was not bad for a food court. Looked for and found a sign saying that Edible Canada had relocated, can’t remember where to. On Monday had lunch at Vij’s Rangoli it was good not great, the menu doesn’t seem to change much even though we only eat there every couple years. Next time in Vancouver I want to try Peaceful on our way back to the states.
Looking for advice on this list of Vancouver possibilities
Party of four, two 20 somethings and 2 middle-agers, heading up to Vancouver next weekend. Looking for 2 lunches and 2 dinner meals. Will stop at Vij’s Rangoli on our way out Monday. Two eaters are pescatarians (no shellfish/but love sushi) and one is not too unadventurous, and then there is me who will eat almost anything …..
We are staying at Carman Plaza at 1128 Alberni Street. I am interested in good places radiating out from this center for 1500 meters or so. Also hope to hike around False Creek on Sunday starting at Yaletown and ending at Granville Is. Any good lunch places recs are appreciated.
From my limited research I have the following places on a maybe list. Please let me know what you recommend and sounds like it will work for this group. Thanks!

Sufficiently Noisy Sushi (without compromising quality of food)?
Can't comment on the omakase but what about Nijo? I have never been disappointed.
Peter Cipra Died
Thanks for posting Tom. Labuznik was a truly great restaurant it had it all, ambiance, great service and outstanding food. I can still taste the perfectly cooked veal chops, creamed spinach and wonderful soups. Always meant to try the fried cheese but never did. Peace to Peter Cipra's family and friends.
SF Hound needs great lunch spot nearish U-Village
Satay on 45th in Wallingford, really good food!

Dining in the ID on Christmas eve
I was using 'hole in the wall' to describe a very casual place that may not be set up to easily accommodate English speakers. I will be with a couple unadventurous eaters and I myself don't have much experience with the ID. Also need to deal with eaters who won't eat meat or shellfish.
Dining in the ID on Christmas eve
Have heard many ID restaurants are hopping on Xmas eve. Any suggestions for a place that is not a hole in the wall, and has decent service and food?
The new Taylor Shellfish shop (@ Melrose Market). Great!
All the more reason to post. This board doesn't need consensus it needs honest experienced opinions.
Last minute recommendations for lunch and dinner!
Just decided to go to Portland from Seattle and spend Saturday night. I don't have much time to do research and the couple restaurants I did look into (Le Pigeon and Little Bird) only have very late tables available. So... I am looking for good food, not overly expensive where I can get a reservation around 7-8 for dinner tomorrow. Also a good lunch place for Saturday would be appreciated. Thanks!
Anyone else who can give a report on experience on SRW meals eaten are appreciated....
We went last Monday (they were open for SRW) and had reservations so there was no wait. Check out their website it appears they have a few tables you can make day of reservations for.
Anyone else who can give a report on experience on SRW meals eaten are appreciated....
Ate at Lark and had their SRW meal last Monday. Just checked their menu and it looks like they have modified it from what I had. Started with a beet salad with blue cheese dressing, then the fish entree and finished with the ginger cake. The salad and fish were really good, I was not wild about the ginger cake. I hadn't been to Lark in a while but the service and atmosphere were excellent. Will be going back soon!
RN 74
Also have no desire to return. Had the lamb shank cassoulet which was down right bad, tasted stale and the amount of lamb for the money was way too low. The crudite salad was basically tasteless. The halibut just okay.
Great steak for under 40$
Thanks for the responses but I am looking for a place within Seattle proper. Any feedback on the steaks at Toulouse Petit or other restaurants that are not steakhouses?
Great steak for under 40$
Want to take my visiting Dad out for a great steak dinner in Seattle. Looked at Metropolitan Grill and Canlis but he will be very uncomfortable eating a meal that expensive. Any suggestions where to get a great steak for no more then 30-40 dollars? Good service and atmosphere a plus, thanks!
