Worst of San Diego and Most Over-rated

aghh.. no one has mentined Lamont street Grill.. the worst!!! I have friends who love it.. Cannot figure that out.. I thought it was so mediocre....and bright..

best restaurant in san diego

I second that.. I just told someone it was my new favorite place.. all around it was perfect!!!

NYer coming to San Diego for a visit, loves your recs

hey .. there are so many things to search.. how old are you? Where are you staying?.. There are so many.. tell us some more so we can help..

What's new and exciting in San Diego?

Market on Ville De La Valle.. My new favorite place.. everything was outstanding.. food service etc.. would go back in a heartbeat...

Carlsbad Restaurants

is the new place next to West opened?.. We have friends coming down from Sac Clem and would like a place close to the freeway..for a Sun at 6..could try vig's.. I thought there was some new place that opened awhile ago that was supposed to be great...Belle Fleur..nah...and have done West.. and dont want a chain... picky I know...

Visiting San Diego next week - Suggestions?

hi..we need some more information.. on age.. kids?..price range.. type of foods etc.... lots of suggestions.. also search.. many topics already done..

The Linkery (SD) - another frustrating experience

I swear that was the same name as the one in Hillcrest.. maybe there were two?

Early morning breakfast San Diego

well then theres La Jolla. to hang out until you have to be at close by UCSD.. so theres Nine Ten.. The cottage and Codys.. all open around 8-8-30 i think.. then you can walk around La Jolla... there is also The Torrey Pines Lodge.. a stones throw from UCSD.. but not tto much to do afterward.. i would opt for La Jolla..

The Linkery (SD) - another frustrating experience

is the Trattoria Antica open? Isnt that the one by ben and jerry's? If so we tried to go there but found it closed a month or so ago.. I did think it was tasty.. Funny story.. we were in Italy with friends two years ago. They started talking to a waitress I think it was..her father... was the owner of T. A.

Kyoto splurge (while we have a babysitter)

Hey... went went there last summer and stayed a week. We had some very memorable meals.. not so much the food.although that was great too. but we had the funniest times.. It seemed every dining experience came with a story...so much sign language!! Not alot of English spoken..looking in my book.. whatever you do do NOT go to the Ashiya Steakhouse.. see all the Fodors write ups.. Funniest experience..but definetly not worth the 300.00 for two.. and we were the only ones there... we did like Yagenbori.. very small and local.. my husband had the kyseki(sp?) which he thought was incredible..gees I wish this was right when we got back.. we dined one night on the restaurant row area.. by the Gion.. which was just interesting.. wish we had done one of the noodle shops though instead..had some great French food at I think it was Le Sud..www.lesud.jp..Have a great time....if theres anything you dont eat i would sugguest making a card with an x through it.. I dont eat any seafood and had a hard time explaining that sometimes.. I wish I was going! It was truly my favorite trip yet!!!

San Diego.....

Just went to Market.. our new favorite place, was soooo tasty.. service great.. la Jolla yes.... Rv too far out there. but Mille Fleures is great.. Market even better.. a bit more casual though. Everyones writing I agree with . The Lodge is wonderful...

Martini Ranch and ?????

I have looked through some of the posts.. alot are old. Restaurants change WEEKLY!!! so another one?? Terra? Travigne(sp?) or ?? Mustards I have been too. French Laundry seems out of reach..

Two lunches - San Diego to Carlsbad?

The Stone Brewery is out in Escondido.. if you are really into food this is great.. they follow the whole slow food movement, everything is wonderful.the setting is so beautiful as well with wonderful gardens.. its off in an industrial park //becuase it is a brewery.. but it is very nice..

La Jolla Graduation Lunch

I would also think of Codys and Clays for the asiest parking and great view.as well the food is tasty..Estancia also has a restaurant which is very close to you..if it happened to be good weather you could do outside at the Lodge at Torrey pines..the grill..youre also very close to Del Mar giving you Il Fornaio,Pacifica and Epazote all great choices.. as well as Sibicaa...ask for the roof..

Sonoma/Napa...any new postings for rec's [Moved from CA Board]

thank you!!! I thought about it later in the day and realized something must be funny.. I will start my homework!

best dinner for 1 in san diego?

Dobsons would be my pick too. I have eaten there by myself. so friendly and its very small. food is excellent too. You could walk there.. maybe a ped cab home..On top of Horton plaza is also the Napa valley grille which would be good too.

Two lunches - San Diego to Carlsbad?

How about Codys in la Jolla...great ambience view..great food.. very Californian.. weather should be good..otherwise del Mar.. Pacifica or Epazote or Il Fornaio.. great view again....or if youre ready for lunch Sallys at Seaport village at the Hyatt, outside at the marina..

Sonoma/Napa...any new postings for rec's [Moved from CA Board]

Have searched for postings on napa and Sonoma.. not very current. Anyone have any new ideas.. or am I looking in the wrong place? Most are two years old plus.. There are so many new restaurants in the area.. surely someone has an opinion!

Going in oct..French Laundry still? Mustards...

Thee Bungalow in OB

I have heard it wasnt worth going. There are better ones for the price....

breakfast SD/La Jolla

Codys.. also for a nice breakfast the Lodge at Torrey pines in the grill..

La Jolla/San Diego Graduation Graduation Luncheon

Elarios.on the top of the Hotel.. whops its Clays now.. has a great room.. and what a view! Just down the hill from UCSD ,easy parking, the food is very very good and a nice room.We hosted a dinner there..

San Diego Eatz and Living In....

No good Thai in San Diego!! That cant be!! We LOVE Spice and Rice in La Jolla.. I think that is one of the best.. There is also a little place on Mission Bay drive, next to a 7 /11.The place is very contemporay, just an odd spot.. But Spice and Rice tops that one too.

La Jolla Trip

breakfast also in La Jolla at Codys.. great view..their new menu for breakfast is nummy! Dinner is also great.. The patio is very nice in hot weather..Harrys I found just regular food, but fun people watching..
Also for lunch or dinner is the newly redone Epazote in Del Mar. Its now a steakhouse..great view,,food fantastic..very cool interiors and patio.

5 Night SD Trip....Need.........

I would not take the advice about not visitng AR Valenien!! All other comments have been right on. I was so thrilled when restaurant week started, but I would not go again. We had the same experience at El Bizocho..Wonderful the first year..this year was not even worth the 40.oo..Ditto for the Marine Room last year which was awful. I thought we were being served on a cruise ship! I swear my staek had been sitting in a holding oven.
Anyway..please dont discount Georges or Ar Valenien..they are both lovely.

Boston review ,four night trip..nummy!

Hi a quick review of the restaurants you all so nicly guided me to.
First night the Blue Room, very good.. I think we shared a steak.. Cant remember all the details but the whole place was buzzing ..on a Wed night!..Was hot inside though.. We sat by the open kitchen, however I think the heat was turned up..or so many people.. anyway would highly suggest.

Next I ate by myself at Grafton Street in Cambridge(these are all in Cambridge)No big deal, but within walking distance and fine to eat at the bar.

Next night was Dante, very nice.. a bit noisy and the tables are long.. 36 inches.. so on a two top your partner is a long way away..View was great though.Food was tasty.. I had a beef wellington with mushrooms and a raspberry puree.

Next was Salts.. better than Dante..say Dante was an 8.. this was a 9.. very small ..I think only wine..They were going to sit us at the WORST table in there.. not too mnay to chose from,as they did get full around 8;30.luckily we were able not to sit there. I would not have wanted to have spent 170.00 and sat by the service area with waiters coming by all the time..

I saw the Central Kitchen and Miracle of Science as mentioned. I have realized next time I need to be more specific about where we are staying and the cost of a cab ride.. The Dante restaurant was 20.00 each way...and the Central Kitchen I had not gone on the T trains yet so that was too far away..

Thank you all for your input.. I will now go to the San Diego site and see if I can help someone out as well!

last one.. Salts???

ok I just read about Salts.. anyone have a take lately on that??? The posts are all old..

blue room or Rialto for a Sat night.. party of two...

have narrowed some choices.. Doing Dante the night before..what say you all about these two????
