Recommendation for Anniversary dinner in New Hope, Doylestown, etc
While the atmosphere is nothing to speak of (but certainly not bad) Il Melograno offers some of the best food in the Doylestown area and the best Italian food in the general area (IMHO). Located in the Genaurdi's shopping center, it's unassuming from the outside but nice inside. Otherwise I like Manon in Lambertville but it's been a while since I've eaten there. The last time I was at Hamilton's I was underwhelmed.
Recommendation for a Romantic Dinner
Wow, I did not hear this and no, haven't been there this past year. That's a shame....
Restaurant Week - Which Italian Should I Choose?
Have done Branzino and Melograno for RW already, and were very pleased with both, but looking for someplace new. This is disappointing news because Salento's RW menu looks fantastic, but maybe it'll be Porcini? (I hear La Baia is quite loud).
Recommendation for a Romantic Dinner
Snag a seat near the window at XIX (Nineteen) on the 19th floor of the Hyatt at the Bellevue. Show up early and enjoy a coctail in the adjacent bar and then have a lovely, romantic dinner in the main restaurant. I think it's very classy, romantic, and the food is very good. Not cheap but way cheaper than Vetri and probably cheaper than Lacroix (which probably gets the nod for food but not atmosphere). I think XIX is a can't miss....
Restaurant Week - Which Italian Should I Choose?
OK for restaurant week would you go to Porcini, Bistro la Baia, or Salento? Have eaten at Salento and enjoyed it but am leaning toward Porcini. Give it to me straight up, which one? Thank you!
Goomba's has some serious eats
Their pizza is NOT nuked and is very good. They make excellent red and white pizza's with quality meats and their pizza is very popular.
The decline of the Italian Hoagie
Want a really really good Italian Hoagie? Go to Goomba's on Rte 309 in Colmar (near Lansdale). They are the best! And their cheesesteaks are great we well!
Melograno - opinions please.....
Good to know, thank you! Salento, btw, is very good and I've always enjoyed it myself.
Melograno - opinions please.....
Considering dining here with a group of friends for Restaurant Week and wanted some opinions about it. BTW, also considering Salento as well (have eaten at Salento but not Melograno). Thank you!
Sunday Dinner after Macbeth
Thanks Bob, this looks perfect and the funny thing is, I remember seeing an article about this place a few years ago and thought, "that would be a place I'd really like to try". Looking forward to Macbeth and the meal afterward, should be a very nice day.....
Sunday Dinner after Macbeth
Coming in from Philly to see Macbeth at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on April 17th at 3pm. Would like to have dinner afterward some place that has very good food. Am open to any cuisine at all. I've looked in the surrounding area and these looked interesting to me: Bacchus, Chez Lola, Chez Oskar, Miriam, Belleville Bistro, Kif, and Scopello. Within walking distance would be ideal (but will take a cab if needed) and I'll be dining solo. Please let me know what your opinions are of those I've listed as well as any others you like. Thank you all very much!

Thoughts on Washington Inn, Sellersville PA?
Average food + far above average prices = an unmemmorable meal you paid way too much for. Nice place to grab a beer/wine and an app with friends but not a dinner destination in my opinion......
Thai Tanic in Montgomeryville
Have to agree that Thai Tanic is not good and I've eaten there twice. Nadia's in Lansdale is much better. The place in Doylestown (Thai Spice? NOT NOT Siam Cuisine) is pretty good as well. But, if you want really good Thai I think you have to go into the city......
Loving Saigon on Main in Lansdale
Way better than Pho Thai Nam in Blue Bell but a step below Vietnam Cafe in Telford in my opinion. There is no atmosphere whatsoever at Vietnam Cafe as there is (somewhat) at Saigon but the food is better at the former....
Molly Maguire's In Lansdale - Very Disappointing
Newly opened in Lansdale in a beautiful old building. Long and narrow they kept the uniqueness of the old building. Soon to open is their upstairs patio/bar which looks nice. OK there's the good news. Decided to eat lunch there with my son. Service was pretty bad and amatuerish. Menu has some traditional Irish fare including Fish & Chips (at an astonishing $14.95) and Shepherds Pie (at an equally asonishing $13.95). I felt like Indian food so I ordered the Chicken Curry Madras at $14.95, BIG mistake. It was bland and flavorless, which I think is hard to do with such a dish. My son's waffle fries nacho's ($9.95) were equally inept. Had a pint of Harp draft and was again astonished at the $6 pricetag. Do they know this is downtown Lansdale? OK the building probably cost a pretty penny to overhaul but in my book bad food that's way overpriced is not a good combination anywhere. And with the surprisingly limited taps for an Irish bar (the usual suspects of Hoe, Harp, Guinness, Stella, Blue Moon, Smithwicks, Frambois Lambic) at inflated prices, I doubt I'll be drinking there either. All in all, very disappointing.

Small, Low-lit, Cozy, Romantic Restaurant Needed!
Thank you for MANY great suggestions. Fri/Sat?sun does sound good and Matyson is a good idea too. Mr. Martino's sounds good as does Tequila. ILemme throw one more out there and get some opinions on it please. What do people think of Chick's Wine Bar? Sounds low-lit and romantic, of course not BYOB but good choice of wine-by-the-glass and the food sounds good. Opinions? Thanks!
Small, Low-lit, Cozy, Romantic Restaurant Needed!
Here's what I need hounds (and I know Philly very well so anywhere is fine): heading into the city on Jan. 2nd with someone I am trying to rekindle a relationship with. We are going to walk around, see some (post) holiday sites, hopefully stroll arm-and-arm through Rittenhouse Square (or similar venue) and then I want to go to a small, low-lit, cozy, warm and romantic restaurant for dinner where I can sit close to her, look into her eyes, and.....well you get the picture.
BYOB would be really nice but not a necessity. Not uppity or expensive (which will make her uncomfotable) but definitely cozy and romantic. If I have to take a cab to get there (we'll be in center city) then fine. Am thinking of places like: August; Pumpkin; Caffe Casta Diva; Sat/Sun/Mon; etc. Cusine should be straight ahead and comfort food. Thanks for any and all suggestions. If all goes well I'll be a happy man come the new year........
Mad Elf
Check out The Drafting Room in Spring House and Stephanie's in Doylestown, both had it on tap last time I checked. Good luck, this stuff goes fast but it's worth seeking out!
La Cava - new ownership
Excellent news indeed. It was a one-time reastaurant, after one visit no one went back because of the owner. Since the 2 Indian places in Lansdale are not that great at all I'll always welcome another good (yes, emphasis GOOD) Indian restaurant! And in lovely downtown Ambler no less, I know where I'll be eating before a show at the theatre!
Tiffin: Elkins Park
Say what? Tiffin in Elkins Park? Exactly where is this? Have to see if it's closer to me than their Mt. Airy outpost. Thanks!
No Place to eat Anniversary Dinner!...Help!
I would suggest places like: Davio's, great Italian steakhouse but qute expensive, sexy atmosphere; L'Angolo for hearty excellent Italian fare and BYOB; Figs for excellent Morrocon fare in a small, intimate setting. Any of those would be excellent choices in my opinion!
Jules Thin Crust
I'm with you Karen, I don't know what all the fuss is about. Tried them a few times and found it mediocre at best. And I agree that this is NOT thing crust pizza. Give me good, wood-fired, brick oven pizza anyday! And this is not that!
Center City Weekend: Best Buys?
If you can snag a reservation I believe THE best buy in all of Philly is the Sunday 5-course dinner at Little Fish for $28 and BYOB. Seatings at 6 and 8 but I believe they book up far in advance. An incredible meal and an incredible bargain!
Shanachie - it was good, why so maligned
Had their Shepherd's pie once and thought it was not that good.. And an Irish restaurant that can't do fish and chips? Say what? I'll stick to the Irish pubs in the city (Black Horse, Black Sheep) which are worlds better and go to Shanachie for the music and the beer.
Sycamore in Landsdowne?
Wow! That's right up the street from where my mom lives (Wildman Arms Condo's) and VERY surprising that it's right in town. That's great, I hope it helps to revive the scene in that area!
Sicilian Food in Philly?
Many many were/are (including my grandparents). But I think what you mostly find in South Philly though are Southern Italian (mostly Calabrese, but also Neopolitan, Puglia, Abruzzi) inspired restaurants. True Sicilian (or Sigg-ah-lee-ahn as I heard it called growing up) food is actually lighter, more basic, and uses a lot of seafood, nuts and fruits (from being occupied by the Moors) in it. Freshness of ingredients, simplicity, and not overworking it is the key.
Most South Philly restaurants have also become Italian-American, and out of necessity. Not being able to find the same ingredients as they could in Italy/Sicily, they improvised with what they had and a new cusine was created. This is done very well and very poorly all over Philly.
Sycamore in Landsdowne?
Grew up in Lansdowne and my mom still lives there. Where in the world in Lansdowne is this place? It sounds to un-lansdowne!
Sicilian Food in Philly?
Good luck and if you find any lemme know. Gotta go to NYC in my opinion, and even then it's difficult. Tranacria (which is what Sicily is known as) is a very good, albeit expensive, restaurant and worth a visit.
Excellent cheesesteaks near Doylestown
I second the Steak and Hoagie Factory on Main St in Doylestown. Open till ? I have often stumbled in after enjoying myself in town to get my fix of a good cheesesteak, and I'm from Philly so my standards are high! Their rolls do rock!
