Jesse Wong Hong Kong in Columbia
You're right about that....when they change the "look" for dinner - especially the nuevo dish ware - I thought something weird was going on. But I continued to just order from the "virtual menu" in my head...so never really looked at what they offer on the official menu. They always accommodated me. :-)
Duck in Baltimore?
If you want closer - in columbia at Asean Bistro - they have pretty decent peking duck...while not the same as JWHK - I've enjoyed it.....
Also - just wanted to mention that AA Supermarket has closed on Security Blvd - seems they moved to Rt 40 near H mart....haven't quite found it yet though...
Jesse Wong Hong Kong in Columbia
yes, it is -but I check the baltimore sun...its official. Jesse Wong Hong Kong close their doors on 12/1/08. They certainly kept it quiet - I was there the day after thanksgiving and nothing was mentioned.
Jesse Wong Hong Kong in Columbia
I know...I've heard negative stuff about them...but I absolutely love their duck dish....there's nothing at the door indicating a move or anything. We try calling their phone and its been disconnected. :-(
Jesse Wong Hong Kong in Columbia
Hey - does anyone know what happen to this restaurant? I hadn't been there in a few months and recently went and found the doors shut.
Mark's Duck House - Major Disappointment
I'm actually curious about your comment - being cantonese and knowing that Peking Duck is a pretty common dish for us - where (type of restaurant) in your opinion would you find a better Peking Duck dish?
Peaking Duck in Rockville
Actually, the flour tortillas is the traditional way of eating it. The steamed bun is a new way of doing it - I've seen it being done that way more often now - might be taiwanese but peking duck use to always be wrap in tortilla wraps.
Oriental Manor replacement?
I guess that also depends on what their personal type of chinese food they're into. Being cantonese, I can definitely say that JWHK's food is comparable to the cantonese food that I use to have in NYC. And of course whether you're ordering off their chinese menu or their "american" menu. :-)
Oriental Manor replacement?
Personally, I found Jesse Wong to be far superior to Oriental Manor - at least that's my impression after my visit to OM a few months ago - the food was terrible and service even worst. I've always found Jesse Wong to be very good and authentic cantonese food. Love that Kingdom Porkchop and their Peking Duck is definite the best I've found in the MD area.
dim sum
I've heard that there is some sort of relation between New fortune and good fortune in wheaton. When New fortune first opened, I was told that the chef went to the new restaurant - about that time I noticed a definite down turn in the dim sum product at good fortune and the dim sum at new fortune was absolutely fabulous...but I have noticed that its been going down hill in the past two years or so - so maybe the talented chef has wander off to another site again. :-)
Best Peking Duck in Baltimore/surrounding areas - no DC, please
Jesse Wongs HK has the BEST Peking duck....skin is just perfectly crisp without hint of grease. I get my fix at least one a month :-)
Asian grocery store
For good bbq duck - you should check out New Fortune over by Gaithersburg (Shady Grove) The restaurant has a take out section that sells all the godies such as roast pig, pork, etc just like they do in NYC.
