Zucchini blossoms (squash blossoms) in GTA

Thanks for the tips.
Every time I had it in the restaurant, it's battered and deep-fried.

What happened to Via Allegro?

I had been there three or four times this year and find the food and service still good. I never ordered pizza though.

The portion is quite big too.

Looking for a restaurant (Spanish)

At La Vinia, if the tripe in spicy sauce is the special of the day, it's a must order dish. So good!

Chinese smoked pork pancakes

Went there at 3pm today but the chef was out for a break. No one knew when he'll be back.
Passed by after 20 minutes and not back yet.
I'll try my luck next week.

Kintaro Yakitori & izakaya

Was there last month. Not impressed.
For izakaya, Kingyo is much better.
For yakitori, Zakkushi and Ju in J-town are much better.
The only reason I'll go again is the Polar beer with a frozen foam.

Lucullus Bakery - downtown

I guess the quality of the ingredients used are different. The crust of the egg tart was not fluffy. The coconut bun had a stingy and dry filling in a medium hard dough. So bad.

Lucullus Bakery - downtown

I found that the qualities vary with locations. The one on Hwy 7 is good while the one at Kennedy/14th Ave. is not acceptable.
Will have to try this new one and see how it goes.

La Vinia - review and pics.

I had a fantastic meal at this Spanish restaurant.

Good food, excellent service, reasonable prices and a welcoming chef/owner.

I ordered:
- poached octopus (octopus was very tender. The potato was flavourful.)
- sautéed shrimp (done just right, good!)
- Iberico Spanish ham (aged 36 months, very good if that's your thing)
- salmon carpaccio cured in Brandy and Rum (an ok dish)
- sautéed king oyster mushroom (surprisingly good, simple and delicious)
- tripe in spicy sauce with chorizo (my favorite! Tripe stewed for 2 hours and was very tender. The sauce made from the stock of Iberico ham's bone. Yum! It's a daily special.)
- Buffalo mozzarella with tomato and Iberico tenderloin (good. The tenderloin not as good as the leg though. Daily special.)
- Paella de Marisco - Spanish saffron rice with shrimp, calamari, mussels, scallops, monkfish and clams.(big portion for one person and good)
- Arroz Negro - Black ink risotto with calamari and clams (big portion and good)
- Mango cheesecake - as light as a mango mousse cake.

The chef checked on us several times to make sure we enjoyed the food.

Besides Kaji, who else is good for sushi/sashimi in that area?

That was in April. Seven months ago.

'confusing' is an excellent description.

I have had better food at AYCE.

Besides Kaji, who else is good for sushi/sashimi in that area?

I went to Kumo. Very disappointing.

In the sake, they put cucumber sticks which deviated the delicate taste of the sake.

The cooked dishes were heavily sauced which reminded me of Northern Chinese dishes.
The sashimi and sushi were not up to par.
The place was filthy too.

Nothing comparable to good ones like Café Michi, Aoyama and of course, Kaji.

CHASE sounds good.
Haven't been there yet and would love to see the makeover of the historical building.
Glad you mentioned it.

Aser! Please recommend a downtown place to order suckling pig

I've tried the whole suckling pig at Dim Sum King at 421 Dundas St. W., 3/Fl. (416-551-3366) and found it surprisingly good, compatible with Peak Top.
$138 and needs 1-week advance order.
Enjoy!

" Fisherman Lobster Clubhouse Restaurant " - The 'other' giant lobster specialist in town

No way can it be better than O'Mei.
I can taste the delicate flavour of lobster in O'Mei's dishes, be it steamed, HK typhoon style or Maggie sauced.
In Fishman Lobster Clubhouse, I can see the lobster mountain but the taste is wayyy off. I think they do a very good job in building mountains!

" Fisherman Lobster Clubhouse Restaurant " - The 'other' giant lobster specialist in town

They always try to upsell the set dinner. Most of the tables end up with 4 or 5 boxes of leftover to take home.
Most dishes are oily and overcooked.
The black sesame soup dessert was a joke. Couldn't be worse.
Set menu for 2 can feed 4 and the one for 8-10 will feed 12-14.
What a waste of the expensive ingredients.
I won't go back.

Summerlicious 2013: July 5-21 ... recommendations?

Went to Stock for lunch. Good service. No charge for water. Wine pairing only $6 for 2 x 3oz for the appetizer and the main. Real surprise!
The sliders, OMG, so good.
Both the panna cotta and the chocolate torte were excellent.
Glad that I went.
