Memories of the pork fried rice, bbq'd pork spare ribs (I think there were two) and of course "duck sauce" to flavor it all up, New York area chinese circa 1970's.

AND, anyone know where to find BBQ spare ribs, pork fried rice and "duck sauce"...N Y style of course?

A glass of chilled tomato juice, then Phad Kee Mao Thai spicy from either:
1. Soho Thai Fusion on P.C.H east of Narbonne in Lomita
2. The Thai takeout place in the mini mall NW corner of Torrance Blvd. and Prairie ave. in Torrance

ANARKALI halal on Crenshaw Blvd. unfortunately closed and replaced by a halal burger joint. Very sad as I really liked the lunch buffet at this place. Owner was supposedly remodeling. Same owner as Bombay Grocers on P.C.H in Lomita which is surprisingly not in the same league as Anarkali

Haven't had the polish in awhile but I remember it having a stronger taste than the hot dog not spicier

The torrance costco has always had it available. Used to be you got as many as you wanted but times have changed and now only one is provided. Additional cups are a quarter apiece.

Like mine with the the addition of the little sauerkraut provided when requested

No one mentioned canned coconut milk or cream. The advantage of course would be it's always on hand, the disadvantage would be the freshness and possible taste difference. There are so many brands any one of which may be close to the taste that you are looking for. Most if not all restaurants and recipes use canned? Unless I'm making curried crabs, I always use canned.

ANARKALI on crenshaw in torrance. Finally tried the lunch buffet yesterday. WOW! A taste experience of the highest order. Truly authentic spicing. Tandoori chicken, tika masala and a curry chicken coupled with vegetable (Squash and garbanza) and yougurt curries. Included naan, salad, mango lassi and gulab jamon. A great bargain even at a higher than the $6.50 tax included price. If you love delicious Indian, rush on down to this restaurant.

THAI
If you haven't tried "Siam I Am" yet you're in for a treat. It's located on the west side of P.C.H. just north of Torrance blvd. Don't let it's diminutive size fool you. This little gem makes the tastiest most authentic dishes on par with Thai town. The best part may be the price. Lunch specials which include choice or white or brown rice. choice or meats or tofu (shrimp $1 extra) and a small salad are just$ 4.99. My favorites are the yellow curry and the eggplant with thai basil both with steamed tofu. Regular menu items are not much more expensive. Kao Soi and Thom Ka Kai are my non lunch favorites. Try it, you'll like it! Spotlessly clean with friendly service.
INDIAN
The small Indian place east side of Hawthorne in the northern most portion of the strip mall north of Torrance blvd is my go to vegetarian. All day specials for $3.99 gets you a curry veg of the day plus two more veg choices rice and chappati. For $4.99 you can substitute one curry meat dish (chicken, lamb or goat) or for $5.99 choose two meat dishes. They also offer regular menu items.

Thanks for the info. My second favorite would be the padang dishes. Have been missing this delicious cuisine.

Anyone know the closest Tommy's to Palos Verdes? Breakfast sandwich sounds terrific!

Just wondering if any booth is serving soto ayam? Or padang dishes?

i agree that Bamboo Song has the tastiest pho in the area. Much better than the pho shop in Penn center and the ones on hawthorne and the ones on crenshaw in Torrance and even further north in Gardena).
I did recently discover a relatively new to the area Pho SO1 corner of redondo beach blvd and western in gardena. Huge menu. Had the curry chicken with rice vermicelli instead of the french roll. AWESOME. Too much chicken in the bowl! Asked for extra limes and an extra basil and mint plate. Ice coffee with milk was smooth and delicious (Most places have the rough taste and after taste) Next visit will try the pho the bun or rice plate. Restaurant clean and staff friendly. Would be awesome if no longer had to drive to SGV

A recent poster requested info on the drip press. My question is which of the various coffee offerings would be the best choice for a delicious brew, (similar to the tasty one at Golden Deli in S. G. V. for instance.)? Have tried several options including the grind in the small paper bags sold at some Viet markets. None of these produced the smooth taste. Help.

Noticed the lunch special sign posted outside this immaculate, small Thai restaurant on P.C.H just north of Torrance Blvd. I was so happy that I followed my instinct to try this new place. My first lunch special was the yellow curry(Kang Karee) with chicken. I ordered it spicy Thai style with brown rice, and was rewarded with an absolutely delicious plate of authentic Thai food that also included a small salad.
On my second visit I tried the eggplant with chicken (also spicy thai style) that included bell peppers, basil leaves and onions. This was as good or even better than the previous curry dish. The sauce was an original flavor that I hadn't experienced before. 10 lunch specials are mostly priced at $4.95 and served from 11 to 3pm.
They're open till 9pm, closed on Mondays and offer free delivery.

Anyone know where to buy kafir lime leaves used in thai recipes in the south bay area?
Chowhound Post
The Marukai outlet (98 cent ) store on Hawthorne north of Lomita Blvd. sometimes has really sharp no brand knives for $1.50 and other useful items. Been lucky to get good useful bargains there.

Good point a and w. I've seen vegetarian fish sauces and such at Asian grocers. Don't know if they have it at Soho Thai. For me it's not that critical an issue.

SOHO Thai on P.C.H in Lomita serves the absolute best thai in the south bay and is on par with Hollywood Blvd. and Sherman Way. They make all of the traditional dishes with meat BUT they have the option of substituting "Soy chicken, beef or shrimp" in any dish. This is NOT the usual soy cake masquerading as meat but a product that is exactly like the real thing in taste and texture. We have been getting the prik khing (spicy thai style) and the phad kee mao with soy chicken. Brown rice is also an option. Entres priced reasonably between 7 and 10. The soy option is $1 extra. Fortunately we live here in the south bay but would travel from anywhere in L.A. to eat here. Service and decor is wonderful. Ample parking in back.

Do yourself a favor and shlep over to Golden Deli on Las Tunas dr. in Alhambra. Just today had the # 44b for lunch. Shrimp paste, egg roll and bbq beef with vermicelli noodles. I add lemon and mint leaves. Goes well with the iced coffee with milk. Heavenly! The Pho is also the best in L.A.
