Need help making my own almond flour
You are my new hero! This almond flour is a steal. My food processor must be dulling because it just turns it into mush.
Hip hop soundtrack with gluten free options.
Just throwing this out there, if anyone knows of a good place, bar or restaurant, with a hip hop soundtrack and if there is food, some gluten free options. Can you tell I’m taking a Brooklyn girl (in denial of her hipster status) out for her birthday this weekend? Manhattan or Brooklyn is fine, quality is a must, prices can be on the high end (drinks no more than $17) But we're not picky or tied to places with recognizable names.
Photo booths in Manhattan?
The Smith on 51st and 2nd has a photo booth but it is downstairs in the unisex bathroom waiting area.

Sexy Manly Desserts to Impress!
They are gooey aren’t they. The first time I was served them they were cut small and wrapped in wax paper like salt water taffy.
Looking for good food at a decent price in Capri and Sorrento...
In the town of Capri, there is an alley/tunnel to the right of the main church in the main square. You take that alley a little way and you find a restaurant on your right that has a huge anti pasto spread in the middle and a great seafood menu. There is also a wall of windows with a great view if you are there during the day. But I can't remember the name. And don't be afraid of the alley, once you get there you'll understand there are mostly alley type streets that usually lead to something wonderful.
Also Giada De Laurentiis did a Capri show a few years ago and if you can track that down, there would be some good recommendations there.
any seafood markets left in manhattan?
I would reach out to Piscane (what I misdiagnosed as a M-F 9-5 place) to find out their hours of operation. It is a great business to support - I just rarely buy fish and when I want to I haven’t thought ahead to try to go there. Also Ideal Cheese is right next door and is another gem and worth the trek.

any seafood markets left in manhattan?
I live near Piscane - 1st ave and 52nd a little out of your way but the M15 bus can get you there. I've never shopped there because it seems to be a M-F 9-5 kind of place. It never seems open when i need to go shopping.

Non Traditional Breakfast Ideas
Quesadilla - easy to make at home
Dim Sum - morning food in china - hard to make at home unless you just get frozen pot stickers, or make your own ahead and freeze them
Don’t people eat pho for breakfast in Vietnam?
There are threads on savory oatmeal preparations on this board.
Eggs poached in tomato based sauces - I’ve seen Italian and middle eastern styles
Indian breads -roti etc
Turkish breakfast is grilled halumi type cheese, with various breads and dips, http://zesterdaily.com/dining/641-turkish-breakfast-club
Google - breakfast in x country and it will help.
Also a lot of travel shows show what they eat for breakfast in certain countries.
Sexy Manly Desserts to Impress!
It has been so long since i made these i can't really remember - i winged it. It was less than a quarter cup more than two tablespoons for a half batch. You could probably do a quarter cup for a whole batch. Warning, they are "looser" than the regular treats - not soggy per se but the alcohol thins out the marshmallow.
What mistake do you always make when you're cooking in a rush?
I should add that now I take some water out of the pot while the food is cooking so this happens less frequently.
What mistake do you always make when you're cooking in a rush?
I forget to save some of the cooking water to thin out what ever it is i'm making. It all just goes down the drain. So sad.
Strangest Starbucks Drink?
I offered to run out and get starbucks at work one day and one of my colleagues (who is not the sharpest knife in the drawer) asked me to get her a caramel “Machiavelli” with heavy cream (double whammy.) I didn't have the heart to correct her and the looks on the faces of everyone else in the room were priceless – confusion, bemusement, pity. But good for her knowing the word Machiavelli.
The best dessert around times square is...?
Rock center is only one avenue away from Times Square. I work in the area so I know the ropes a little.
Financier - 47th btw 7th and 6th
Bouchon Bakery - 49th btw 6th and 5th
Jacques Torres - underground in rock center
Maison Du Chocolate - 48th btw 6th and 5th
Minamoto Kitchoan - 48th btw 6th and 5th
along with a cupcake tourist trap that actually has decent desserts that aren't cupcakes - don’t shoot me - it rhymes with Bagnolia. 6th ave and 48th?

Special pizza sauce with fennel? Help me crack secret recipe from a Connecticut-man
My mistake - i meant to say "is NOT currently on the menu." Thought staff/owners would know some old timers who might be able to help.
Special pizza sauce with fennel? Help me crack secret recipe from a Connecticut-man
http://www.pepespizzeria.com/?page=contact
Have you tried reaching out to the restaurant? It is still open (and famous on the east coast of the USA) and they might help you solve the mystery. The item is currently on their menu and you probably aren’t going to be a competitive risk. Somebody might know somebody who knew the recipe - you never know. You might even want to share this thread with them.
Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook for $500 vs Online ordering for $300
Momofuku and Williams Sonoma must have read this thread and saw an opportunity. WS is selling Momofuku Milk Bar cookie mixes - no need to buy bulk freeze dried corn any more. There is a supertaster review of them on this site as well.

Advice and guidance needed!!!
try landmarc in the time warner center - something for everyone and surprisingly good cocktails. Accessible via short cab ride or subway.
Also do a separate search on this site for cocktails - you'll find loads but off the top of my head take a look at these - they aren't too far afield from where you will be and have a little larger capacity (good for groups) than most of the other places.

Special pizza sauce with fennel? Help me crack secret recipe from a Connecticut-man
Maybe add a concentrated tomato paste to counter balance? Pull back on the fennel to half a bulb...? I don't know what to tell you, you've had cooking enthusiasts and professionals trying to help you for months with no success. Time for plan B…?
In the U.S. we have several websites where they give you recipes to make mass market foods at home. You should see if you could write to them. Also an American magazine called Bon Appétit has a section where you write in and request a favorite recipe from a restaurant and they contact the restaurant and get it for you. Not sure if bigger chains would participate.

Forget the seeds. Have you tried roasting and pureeing and actual bulb or two of fresh fennel and then incorporating it into your tomatoes?
Calling all fennel and baby bok choy lovers
Have you tried the white part of the fennel? The green part is usually discarded.
Here is a salad our family makes at Easter. Dama Bianca. It is fresh and light. We have it as a side to a roast or braised pork.

good date restaurant in nyc
This new info is very helpful, thanks. You’ll have to look at the menus to figure out preference by food choice.
Fig and Olive on 52nd and 5th
Bar room at The Modern (bar at the moma)
Le Petite Maison (lower level of beautiful town house on 54th st)
Ma Peche 56th and 5th (aka momfuku midtown)
Yelp and goolge both have "restaurant nearby" features if that will help you narrow it down by how close to rock center you want to be. Also the closer to rock center the more expensive the places or the wider the cost gap of food choices (low end fast places vs expensive dining.)

This is what I think could be date worthy in midtown on the east side. I'm not saying any of these are blow your mind amazing or cutting edge but are what is good in the area.

Bateau Ivre, 51st st and 2nd ave (french wine bar, dark and bistro-y)

What are you making for Thanksgiving Eve?
My family (heavy Italian lean from my dad's side) hosts my mom’s side of the family (Swedish/German descent) for Thanksgiving. Everyone comes from far and wide so they stay for a few days. The night before we do a huge red sauce meal - home made lasagna with fresh pasts sheets, meatballs, pork etc. They love it because they never get home cooked red sauce Italian. We eat a huge and wide array of food over the three days we consider Thanksgiving.
