You can try to do my technique for making swirls/stripes in macaroon batter. I drip the color down the side of the bag at certain intervals and then add in the batter. You could try this with a fruit coulis instead of jam so it if more fluid. Drip the coulis down the side of the bag and then fill with cream. See if that works. |

What's for Dinner #170 - Apocalypse Chow edition [old] Sounds like (forgive me) a low brow version of Bucatini all'amatriciana which is one of my favorites. I'll have to try it some day. http://www.babbonyc.com/rec-bucatini.... |

7 Days Easter Island, 1 Day Santiago Hi, the last post on Chowhound for Easter Island is from 2007 so I wanted to open it up again. Any good places to eat? Dinner? Coffee? Light bite? A fisher man making ceviche on the dock? I know the expensive and underwhelming “French” place is still there as is the empanada stand. Anything else? I won’t have a kitchen but I will have a fridge and breakfast will be provided where I’m staying. Any tips on things to bring with me? I already have some Clif Bars and trail mix type things purchased. I’ll also have about 10 hours in Santiago to kill and would like to see the market, any good recommendations around there to eat? Or a place that is so good, I should head straight to it? |

Check out midtown lunch for budget ideas. Most places reviewed would be open for breakfast and dinner too. |

Why do Americans like everything Chunky? It is marketing; there is something for everyone. You have to watch Malcolm Gladwell’s Ted Talk on tomato sauce. |

Suggestions for a dessert to serve with fried seafood. i think lemon squares or raspberry cookie bars of some sort would be nice; an acidic dessert after a fried meal. |

Bouchon Bakery - the peanut butter and jelly macaron. I had it Sunday for the first time and it was fantastic. |

Try Buddakan - stylish space, good food, walking distance to all the meat packing district spots - not sure about prix fixe but their dishes are meant to be shared so that could keep the price down. |

Most Dangerous, Rare or Valuable Foods to Hunt or Harvest Swallow nests for swallow nest soup. The nests are found in caves and made out of the swallows' saliva. This is a south east asia thing. In Yunnan province for example “Every year from August 8 to 10 during the famous "Bird's Nest Festival", some local people will climb up the dazzling 50-meter-high cliffs to fetch these nests.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edible-nest_Swiftlet http://www.chinauniquetour.com/html/Yunnan/2011316/arts-6870.html |

Need help making my own almond flour You are my new hero! This almond flour is a steal. My food processor must be dulling because it just turns it into mush. |

Hip hop soundtrack with gluten free options. Great idea, thanks for the tip. |

Hip hop soundtrack with gluten free options. Just throwing this out there, if anyone knows of a good place, bar or restaurant, with a hip hop soundtrack and if there is food, some gluten free options. Can you tell I’m taking a Brooklyn girl (in denial of her hipster status) out for her birthday this weekend? Manhattan or Brooklyn is fine, quality is a must, prices can be on the high end (drinks no more than $17) But we're not picky or tied to places with recognizable names. |

Sexy Manly Desserts to Impress! They are gooey aren’t they. The first time I was served them they were cut small and wrapped in wax paper like salt water taffy. |

Looking for good food at a decent price in Capri and Sorrento... In the town of Capri, there is an alley/tunnel to the right of the main church in the main square. You take that alley a little way and you find a restaurant on your right that has a huge anti pasto spread in the middle and a great seafood menu. There is also a wall of windows with a great view if you are there during the day. But I can't remember the name. And don't be afraid of the alley, once you get there you'll understand there are mostly alley type streets that usually lead to something wonderful. Also Giada De Laurentiis did a Capri show a few years ago and if you can track that down, there would be some good recommendations there. |

any seafood markets left in manhattan? I would reach out to Piscane (what I misdiagnosed as a M-F 9-5 place) to find out their hours of operation. It is a great business to support - I just rarely buy fish and when I want to I haven’t thought ahead to try to go there. Also Ideal Cheese is right next door and is another gem and worth the trek. ----- |

any seafood markets left in manhattan? I live near Piscane - 1st ave and 52nd a little out of your way but the M15 bus can get you there. I've never shopped there because it seems to be a M-F 9-5 kind of place. It never seems open when i need to go shopping. http://nymag.com/listings/stores/pisa... ----- |

Non Traditional Breakfast Ideas Quesadilla - easy to make at home Google - breakfast in x country and it will help. Also a lot of travel shows show what they eat for breakfast in certain countries. |

Sexy Manly Desserts to Impress! It has been so long since i made these i can't really remember - i winged it. It was less than a quarter cup more than two tablespoons for a half batch. You could probably do a quarter cup for a whole batch. Warning, they are "looser" than the regular treats - not soggy per se but the alcohol thins out the marshmallow. |

What mistake do you always make when you're cooking in a rush? I should add that now I take some water out of the pot while the food is cooking so this happens less frequently. |

What mistake do you always make when you're cooking in a rush? I forget to save some of the cooking water to thin out what ever it is i'm making. It all just goes down the drain. So sad. |

I offered to run out and get starbucks at work one day and one of my colleagues (who is not the sharpest knife in the drawer) asked me to get her a caramel “Machiavelli” with heavy cream (double whammy.) I didn't have the heart to correct her and the looks on the faces of everyone else in the room were priceless – confusion, bemusement, pity. But good for her knowing the word Machiavelli. |

Special pizza sauce with fennel? Help me crack secret recipe from a Connecticut-man My mistake - i meant to say "is NOT currently on the menu." Thought staff/owners would know some old timers who might be able to help. |

Special pizza sauce with fennel? Help me crack secret recipe from a Connecticut-man http://www.pepespizzeria.com/?page=co... Have you tried reaching out to the restaurant? It is still open (and famous on the east coast of the USA) and they might help you solve the mystery. The item is currently on their menu and you probably aren’t going to be a competitive risk. Somebody might know somebody who knew the recipe - you never know. You might even want to share this thread with them. |

Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook for $500 vs Online ordering for $300 Momofuku and Williams Sonoma must have read this thread and saw an opportunity. WS is selling Momofuku Milk Bar cookie mixes - no need to buy bulk freeze dried corn any more. There is a supertaster review of them on this site as well. |

try landmarc in the time warner center - something for everyone and surprisingly good cocktails. Accessible via short cab ride or subway. Also do a separate search on this site for cocktails - you'll find loads but off the top of my head take a look at these - they aren't too far afield from where you will be and have a little larger capacity (good for groups) than most of the other places.
