Going to Providence for the weekend

If you want to see some of the delicious food around here, I started a Flickr group for RI food photos (mostly tend to be Providence): http://flickr.com/groups/rifood/pool/

I'm a visual person, so it's a good way to pick a restaurant.

Otherwise, I second all the other suggestions :)

Providence - New Co-op

I wanted to spread the word about the new co-op that's on the works on Westminster Street. They're selling founding shares, I just bought one, you should too if you've been pining for a shopping option like this!

Here's the info:
http://urbangreens.com/join

It's going to be really exciting when this is up and running...

Prov RI Horn Toot: El Rancho Grande

Speaking of, is anyone going to their wine class on Sunday? I'll be there...try to guess who I am and say hi :)

Here's the writeup:

Last month's cooking class sold out and we expect this will do the same. Please join us on Sunday, April 13th from 3-5PM for a fun and educational afternoon as we blind taste 6 wines in 3 flights. These wines will then be paired with a specially prepared 3-course meal (not on the regular menu) by Maria: Jalapenos Rellenos de Atun, Camarones Adobados, and Crepas de Guayaba. Translation = Jalapeno peppers stuffed with seasoned Tuna, Shrimp in a rich traditional Adobado sauce, and sweet Guava filled Mexican-styled crepes with vanilla ice cream).

Learn the language of wine in a friendly, relaxed environment and meet others with similar interests. All levels of wine knowledge are welcome.

$45 per person.
Limited Seating. Reservations & Prepayment Required.
Call 401-275-0808. Ask for Maria.

Crayfish / Crawfish in RI

Thanks for the tip - I might have to work in a trip there! I'm actually originally from NJ but have never heard of that.

Prov RI Horn Toot: El Rancho Grande

I have to add a #11 - the mole. It's so good and, like everything else there, homemade.

Crayfish / Crawfish in RI

Anyone know where I can pick up some (uncooked) crawfish in Rhode Island? The closer to Providence, the better. Just got back from New Orleans with a package of crawfish boil and an appetite :)

Providence: Garrison's store closed, but they're still in business

Too bad! I look forward to hearing where they will be available locally. This was definitely one of my favorite places to grab a gift before going out of town.

Any authentic German restaurants in MA/NH/Southern ME?

I just saw this thread reappear and wanted to thank you who recommended Richard's Restaurant in Brunswick - my boyfriend and I went there a couple of weeks ago and had a great meal. I wrote it up here:
http://stephaniedoes.com/2008/staying-warm-in-maine/

Broadway St, Providence - new?

I finally made it there last night... blogged here:
http://stephaniedoes.com/2008/vivo-at-the-italo-american-club/

I'd say compared to Mike's it's fancier, even though the prices are about the same. I don't know if I got that feeling just because the interior is really striking, or the way our meal was plated... I like them both, but for different occasions.

I'd really like to go back for lunch!

Comfort food in Portland - ideas?

My boyfriend and I had some great poutine at Duck Fat - for breakfast! Well, I suppose it was more of a 'brunch'.

I wrote it up here: http://stephaniedoes.com/2008/staying-warm-in-maine/

Broadway Bistro, Providence menu?

They had a sidewalk sign out the other day that said "WE HAVE BEER", it made me laugh out loud! I can't wait to try this place.

Freeport, Maine dining recommendations?

My boyfriend and I were in the area last weekend and had a great meal at Richard's Restaurant in Brunswick, about a 10 minute drive from downtown Freeport. I wrote up some details (also about the rest of my trip) here:
http://stephaniedoes.com/2008/staying-warm-in-maine/

Exchange St. Cafe, Pawtucket RI, Polish?

I saw a Projo listing list it as Polish with these hours:
Exchange St. Café, 49 Exchange St. 722-5530. Mon-Fri 6:30 am-7 pm; Sat 6:30 am-4 pm.

I'd also love to know about Polish/Ukranian/Russian restaurants - good call.

Stanley's is open in Providence?

I can't wait until it opens, I want to go!

Providence on Sunday night?

A few things I had there were really fantastic, and a few were just OK. But the 50 mile meal I had was tasty.

Mexican Food Heaven

I love El Rancho Grande on Plainfield St. in Providence. Definitely fits the bill for authentic/fresh. The owner even renders her own lard! Although, it's mostly food from the Puebla and Oaxaca regions so I don't think they have most of the dishes you mentioned.

I'm going there for their Valentine's dinner...yum.

Loie Fuller review (Providence)

That sounds great. I need to go more too!

Providence on Sunday night?

A few good things to check out on Sunday:

I don't know if they still do it, but Local121 was doing a fixed price "50 mile meal" of local food:
http://local121.com
(here's what we had when I went - excuse the bad picture: http://stephaniedoes.com/2007/50-mile-meal/)

Another great option is CAV's bistro dinner which is such a good value for $16.95!
http://www.cavrestaurant.com/
CAV is a beautiful restaurant...

Chez Pascal--WOW

Nice writeup! I had a great meal there during restaurant week...

Need fun "destination" place, 50 miles from Boston

I guess I missed this by a day, but to add to the Providence suggestions, if you are ever in Providence on a Wednesday you should check out these wine tastings:
http://stephaniedoes.com/2007/wednesday-wine/

Where did you end up going?

Broadway St, Providence - new?

I've been meaning to go here too. I think it's called Vivo.

Meyer Lemon source in RI?

Oh no! That was truthfully the first time I'd bought them, so I'm probably not a good judge of how they should taste... They weren't quite as sour as lemons.

Best Pancakes In Providence???

I was going to say Julians too. If you're not starving but in the mood for pancakes you can get one pancake with some fruit...yum!
Here are some pancakes I've had there:

http://flickr.com/photos/steffster/427221620/

I've also had good, simple pancakes at Classic Cafe:

But I think sometimes the best are at home, in your pajamas ;)

pho paradise on broad in providence

I had some good noodles there the other day, but I have to go back there for the sandwiches - I've always wanted to try one.

Meyer Lemon source in RI?

I've gotten them at the Stop and Shop on Branch Ave in Providence, but I'm not sure if they have them right now. When I got them they were in a package of 4.

perplexed

It's funny, I went during restaurant week (which if I'm not mistaken, was close to when they opened) and the food was very impressive. But I haven't been back to eat since...

Candlelit Dinner in Providence

Oh, that's a great one! I actually have never been there.

Candlelit Dinner in Providence

This is a strange question, because I can think of a lot of places I'd like to eat in Providence. But my boyfriend and I have been gifted money for a candlelit dinner, and being good gift recipients, we want to take the request seriously.

So, where comes to mind in Providence (and surrounds)? I'd love to go somewhere I haven't been before, and am thinking maybe CAV since I've only been there for appetizers and restaurant week. Would love to hear your ideas!

Best Storemade Italian Sausage in Providence?

Glad you liked it! I haven't been back in a while, I have to go there again.

Wayland Square Wine, Providence - What happened?

I thought George (tall guy with glasses) took over ownership and remodeled, but last time I was there they said he was no longer at the store, which is too bad - I think chatting with him was the fun part of going there. I hope it gets up and running again.
