Madison, WI - non-dairy with sticky rice eats?

Welcome! Rising Sons, Lao Laan Xang, and Ha Long Bay might have the sticky rice you crave. New Seoul is another Korean spot to try, and I vaguely remember that Sushi Box next door to it has a connection to Hawaii somehow...

Summer's a good time to hit up the farmer's markets and food carts, too.

SE WI area - Any opinions on Dickey's Barbecue Restaurant?

Yep, just wanted to make sure the self-serve soft-serve got a plug (Coke floats!). Service at the East Madison location was great, which especially showed in the care they took with dropping okra in the fryer as needed and delivering it to the dining room fast. The meats were MOR.

Try Sophia's, Indie Coffee (especially on Waffle Wednesday, though I'm not sure they have bacon), or Yola's Cafe.

Wisconsin/Madison specialty foods that travel well?

Fromagination, Brennan's and the farmers markets would be great places to browse for ideas. Also the Mustard Museum!

Maybe some creative preserves or dried fruit, especially cherries? Chocolates might be OK in the mail, and Gail Ambrosius, David Bacco, Christine's Toffee and Candinas are just a few of the good ones.

If ginseng root is your thing, Wisconsin's is world-renowned & Community Pharmacy sells it in bulk.

Chez Nanou? MSN

Yes! Chez Nanou is special. I've only had one lunch there, but I'd go back. It was a relaxed and welcoming spot to eat.

We got a Nutella crepe for dessert that might be compared to what Bradbury's makes. I'd say Chez Nanou's is slightly smaller and thicker and just as tasty. Here it is (sorry for the self-link): http://www.flickr.com/photos/jumble/8...

Good restaurant catering or large-scale take-out in Madison that's not too pricey?

Hm, I don't know firsthand about Pasqual's, but the 77Square review from a year ago sounds like the place was relatively unchanged:

Welcome back! I admit I've never had an event catered, here are a few ideas, by no means exhaustive.

Cool, welcome back! I passed your question along on Twitter, haven't heard anything; but Madison Podcast #22 mentioned that Graze is accommodating (and also has highly acclaimed food). Wish I had more info for you.

"Silly" is the perfect word for that place... just heard House of Brews is making a custom black IPA for them, so I might go just for that.

Mexican and New Mexican in Madison, Wi

You might have to call around, but it's often a weekend special, especially at grocery/restaurants. Maybe Antojitos el Toril, Enrique's Market, Los Gemelos (Odana - the downtown one is less traditional), La Rosita Latina, or La Zacatecana?

Believe it or not, HomeTown Buffet (Old Country Buffet) had it the one time we went. Didn't try it.

Supper Club recommendations in Madison WI?

Monch, that's a great idea. I've been wracking my tiny little brain - was it:

East Side Business Club? Not on one-ways, and being on the lake would have been obvious. http://esbma.com/

Smoky's? Also not on one-ways, but University Ave. is a big enough boulevard to seem like it. Also all on one level. http://smokysclub.com/

Stamm House? Not on one-ways, but definitely on a couple levels. More than 10 minutes from Edgewater. Now closed. http://www.delicious.com/madisonatoz/...

Madison updates, please!

Try the Fountain (122 State St.). Same genre as Coopers, Old Fashioned, etc. but more modest and more personal.

Palmyra (a friendly spinoff of Shish Cafe) is excellent Syrian/Levantine food.

Victory on Atwood for coffee.

Happy holidays!

WI - Best Overall Restaurants (According to OpenTable)

Yup. "10best"'s #8 (Casbah) has also been closed for some time. In the spirit of talking to-instead-of-about, I reported both those oversights to its editors.

Double yup, I know Isthmus' list (and they know I know it, so this isn't gossip). My advice: always call ahead.
