41 Degrees Barcelona Quick report

How did you go about making reservations at 41 Degrees?

Not Trendy North Park/Hillcrest

Jaynes Gastropub, Urban Solace, or Farmhouse Cafe could work.

Requesting feedback for cheap eats list for San Diego visit

All great recommendations by the others, but I would definitely add Alpine to your brewery/beer list. Arguably the best brewery in the county and of the best in the country.

First trip to DFW - need recs

I'm going to be visiting Dallas for a few days in a couple of weeks and was hoping to get some recommendations. I've tried doing some research on the boards and whittled down my options into a few different categories and would appreciate any advice.

Breakfast: Original Market Diner and John's Cafe
Lunch #1: Tacos Al Banqueta or Taqueria El Si Hay or Fuel City
Lunch #2: Lockhart Smokehouse or Pecan Lodge or drive to Louie Mueller
Lunch #3: South Dallas Cafe or Sweet Georgia Brown's
Lunch #4: Hattie's or Screen Door
Lunch #5: Off-Site Kitchen or Chop House Burger
Dinner #1: Stephan Pyles or Craft or Mansion or Marquee
Dinner #2: Smoke or Cedar Social
Dinner #3: Mesa or Komali
Cocktails: Victor Tango's or LaGrange
Beer Bars: Strangeways, Flying Saucer Draught Emporium, Goodfriend Beer Garden & Burger House, The Bottle Shop, Trinity Hall

Any tips among those options? Anything I'm missing or should add?

Thanks,
Doug

Reservations during the Olympics

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I'll just try and see what I can get then go from there.

Min Jiang was actually another place that was on my list.

Has anyone been to the Chef's Table at Dinner? That is available for booking now and it sounds like there is availability. Is it worth it?

Reservations during the Olympics

I'm heading to London for the Olympics in July with my sister and a couple of friends, and I'd like to take my sister out to a nice restaurant for her 30th birthday. I'm trying to decide which place to take her so I can make reservations once they start taking them for that timeframe. The restaurants I was thinking about are:
The Fat Duck
Waterside Inn
The Ledbury
Pollen Street Social
Dinner

Any thoughts among those options or do you have any other ideas (i.e Gordon Ramsey, L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon - love the Las Vegas one, Alain Ducasse, or Hibiscus)?

We won't have a car, so how difficult is it to get to and from Bray for a meal at The Fat Duck or Waterside Inn by train?

Chupa Cabras Taqueria

Now we just need a good deli called Jewpacabras: http://www.southparkstudios.com/news/411860/see-jewpacabra-uncensored

Quick Trip to San Diego

Staying downtown: Neighborhood, Monkey Paw and Downtown Johnny Brown's are all good beer options. Neighborhood is better for food.

Venturing out a bit:
South Park area: Alchemy and Hamilton's
North Park area: The Linkery (or El Take It Easy) and Toronado
Midtown: Starlite and Regal Beagle

Source for yard eggs?

Never used it, but this website is supposed to match up egg farmers with customers: http://www.eggzy.net/

Elevation Burger -- Carlsbad?

I just went to their location in Bahrain the other day and found it to be the best burger I've had in the region (not that that's saying much) and it was nice to actually get some grass-fed beef. Anywho, good burger and worth trying but I wouldn't go too far out of your way for it. I agree with the sentiments of it being a notch up from In-N-Out and Five Guys. Trying to remember how I would compare it to Burger Lounge and I think I'd put it on a close level to that.

Vienna for 3 days

I'm going to be in Vienna from Friday, February 24th to Monday, February 27th and was hoping to get some suggestions on places to go. I started compiling a list of places I would like to go but I'm worried about them being open because it sounds like a lot of restaurants close on Saturdays and Sundays.

How late are Walter Bauer and Steirereck open on Friday nights? I'm going to be attending Carmen at the Opera House and was wondering if I could do one of them for dinner afterwards.

The other restaurants I'm considering are:
Walter Bauer
Steirereck
Meierei
Rudi's Beisl
Kutschker 44
Vestibul
Gasthaus Zu Den 3 Hacken
Bitzinger's Würstelstand
Heuriger Christ
Gmoakeller
Cafe Landmann
Cafe Drecshler
Cafe Pruckel
Demel
Cafe Sperl
Cafe Phoenixhof

Any suggestions or priorities from that list? Which ones will not be open Saturday/Sunday?

Thanks,
Doug

Where to buy a half or whole grass fed cow?

I remember that Sage Mountain Farms was offerring them a couple of years ago. No idea if they still are or how it went though. You might want to check with them.

Claussen Sauerkraut

Do you like the sauerkraut from the Happy Pantry at various farmers markets?

Addison = excellent

I just noticed that Thomas Keller named Addison as his best meal of 2011 and William Bradley as the chef with the most potential. Pretty big honor and congrats to them:

Yummy, casual places like Urban Solace that are new to me?

Have you been to Local Habit in Hillcrest yet? I went with a few friends while I was home and was quite impressed. Good beer selection (and slightly different beers than a lot of other similar places) and good small plates to share.

Where do I buy Rittenhouse Rye in San Diego?

Why can't BevMo get it? I've bought it a few of their locations (Mira Mesa & Mission Valley) numerous times over the last few years. Did they just stop carrying it? Or are you looking for Rittenhouse 80?

Have you ever tried Russell's Reserve 6 Year Rye? That's been my go to rye recently and a bit more complex than Rittenhouse.

Breakfast and Lunch in London

I have a 9 hour layover in London this Friday so I'm going to head into the city for breakfast, lunch and a bit of sightseeing. Right now I'm trying to decide between the following options and I would appreciate your input.

Breakfast:
St. John Hotel
The Wolseley
Lantana Cafe

Lunch:
Cask Pub & Kitchen
St. John Bread & Wine
Les Deux Salons

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Blue Ribbon Pizzeria

When I went there my crust wasn't cracker like either. It wasn't as chewy I would have liked it (prefer Bruno there) but it wasn't overdone. I loved the flavor of the crust though and found the taste to be better than Bruno. I would take the other menu items over Bruno too. I'd need to try more pizzas from Blue Ribbon to say if I liked the toppings at Bruno or Blue Ribbon more.

Tapas in San Diego

The only one on your list I've been to is Bocadillos and I wouldn't consider that to be great. Decent enough but not great.

Petit fours

Opera in Sorrento Valley makes some really good ones

Sea Rocket Bistro Review

It really has improved quite a bit all around since the new chef took over.

Cinnamon rolls

Yeah, definitely go to Urban Solace.

I remember the Bread Basket in Alpine having good ones back in the day. Anyone know if they still do? Is the Bread Basket even still open?

San Diego CLOSED Restaurants - Replacement for old board.

Do you know when it's closing?

Need recommendations for Chinese, Korean, Italian, Taiwanese, Japanese etc within 20+ mins of Legoland

Well, we do have a sizable Chaldean population in East County.

Foodie Visiting San Diego for Work for 2 Days

Kaito over Ota for sure. Omakase would probably run somewhere around $70.
Definitely Super Cocina over Las Cuatro Milpas.
Everything else looks good on your list.

Your most true farm to table restaurants are going to be The Linkery (North Park), El Take It Easy (North Park), AR Valentien (La Jolla), Alchemy (South Park), Sea Rocket (North Park), and J-Six (Gaslamp). Blanca and George's use a lot of local produce as well.

Next week is actually Grass Fed Beef Week in San Diego and if you go to Burger Lounge (there's one in La Jolla) for lunch they'll provide you with a voucher for a free item at most of the restaurants I just listed above.

Out-of-towner with a kid looking for good everyday sushi

Definitely Kaito. It is traditional and it is by far the best sushi in San Diego, but it's also very casual and not stuffy at all. Bringing a toddler there would not be a problem.

Dinner in Downtown San Diego Monday........suggestions????

Neighborhood or Cafe Chloe would be my suggestions downtown.

Cafe Chloe

Traveling with elderly mom

Downtown Johnny Brown's is close to there and has good craft beer. The food isn't anything special but she might like it for a lunch.

Tap Rooms in San Diego

Aye, what Josh said. I would add O'Brien's to the list too. http://obrienspub.net/
