Tripas Taco at Gloria's: So Good!
There are tripas de leche, which are what you described, but regular tripas are small intestines.
ISO Saturday brunch spot - Valencia
I really like both of them. Thelma's seems more relaxed maybe because it's smaller and the wait to get a table is shorter. However, I've never felt rushed at Egg Plantation. My vote would go to Egg Plantation due to their wonderful spicy Bloody Mary. If you want a brunch cocktail, definitely go for Egg Plantation. The food is great at both places.
Looking for recs in Valencia
Egg Plantation and Thelma's Cafe for breakfast.
La Cocina for Americanized Mexican food. Carnitas Michoacan and Las Delicias for more traditional Mexican.

Inexpensive Wine
Total wine also has a coupon that allows you to take $10 off every $50 worth of wine you buy.
best quality ribeye under $12/lb?
Handy Market in Burbank. 30 day dry aged and about 2 inches thick. 11.99/lb. I think.
Where can I find canning jars?
We've bought them at the Super Wal-Mart in Canyon Country as well as Food 4 Less in Canyon Country.
Pane e Vino - still good?
They vary for each restaurant. In this case, they are $25 (min. $45 purchase), $50 (min. $100), & $75 (min. $150).
Pane e Vino - still good?
Can't answer your question about whether or not they are still good, but I just want to point out that you can get restaurant.com gift certificates there also. If you use the promo code ORANGE (thru 10/31), you get 80% off the cost of the coupon.
WINE SHOP not too far from Hollywood
Another vote for K&L. Porthos hit the nail on the head with the ability to have wine shipped for free to their store from any of their other stores. With that service, their inventory is probably one of the best in the country. Their library wines are also sourced well which makes buying aged wine less of a concern for me.
Ultra High End Dining in L.A.? Help please!
So, hold off until then, and pair with DRC. That should work.
Ultra High End Dining in L.A.? Help please!
Perhaps I am mistaken, but isn't now the time of year for alba truffles? I don't know who serves them since I could never afford them, but don't places like Melisse do white truffle dinners? That could be quite expensive.
Farmers Markets and yellow corn
There is a vendor at the Sunday Farmer's Market in Santa Clarita (College of the Canyons) that has yellow corn every week. Good stuff. Might be out of your range, but yellow corn seems hard to come by, which is too bad since I think it actually tastes better than white, but I definitely know I'm in the minority on that.
New in Tarzana
I've been here a few times, and really liked the food. The patio is nice because it is not directly on the Blvd., so it cuts down on the street noise. That coupled with the free corkage makes this a place I like to frequent.
You would have a hard time finding _________in Los Angeles...
FRESH cheese curds is the key. Curds that are still warm from the cheese factory and have that squeak when eating them.
Good place to buy beef? (westside L.A.)
Lol, didn't realize it was that far. Living in Santa Clarita has skewed my view on how far I will go for good food.

Not sure if that's close enough, but their products are top notch. Not cheap, but worth it.
Marche L.A. ...........A true disappointment!!
Never even heard of it. That menu sounds delicious. Thanks for that rec.
Keep 'em coming.......This is what CH should be all about....
Marche L.A. ...........A true disappointment!!
For the people who have tried marche L.A., and have been disappointed, can you please recommend some restaurants that have a similar concept, but you feel executes this concept much better. As I stated above, I loved marche, but obviously some people feel there are much better representations of this type of restaurant. I'm not asking this to be argumentative. I really want to try great restaurants that I may be missing out on.
There's been too much drama in this thread, so I really hope we can just get back to talking about food instead of motives (give the mods a break, lol). I think we all just love food....right?
Flambe...ing, be afraid, be very afraid
Don't have your hood fan on. It may have grease on it like mine and catch on fire, melting the plastic, and shooting melted plastic all over the place.
Lesson learned, lol.
Marche L.A. ...........A true disappointment!!
Question to the OP. Maybe I'm missing out. What restaurants with similar concepts as marche have you tried and enjoyed?
Marche L.A. ...........A true disappointment!!
I disagree with the OP. But, as the OP indicated, taste is subjective, so I'm not necessarily saying the OP's experience was anything other than they described, but just adding another perspective.
I was there Wednesday and was thrilled with marche. The prices are in line with the size of the plates, quality of the ingredients, and presentation. The foie gras was phenominal. It was like silk. I can still taste the summer truffle risotto it was that good. The skirt steak (rolled into a cylinder, cooked sous vide, then lightly seared) was a flavorful and textural delight. I also had the pork belly, and was quite happy with it. And yes, the potatoes are just potatoes, but they are very tasty potatoes if you appreciate the simplicity of a perfect potato perfectly cooked.
We had a party of 3, and the total bill came to about $240 (including $36 in corkage/$18/bottle). We were filled, and the food was tremendous. Not cheap, but worth it considering the quality.
The Forget Bandini... A Serious Chowhounds Guide to L.A's Best Tacos
Eat_Nopal,
Do you have any recommendations for tripas tacos? I've had different versions here, but never had them in Mexico.
Palate - Food & Wine (a review)
I would have definitely tried to talk to a manager. I've noticed a lot of comments about Palate's staff, yet most of the complaints revolve around servers/waiters. In my experience the managerial staff is tremendous. I don't understand how the waiters can't get things right as I've seen the managers giving a rundown to them prior to the night's service.
Then again, service in L.A. tends to stink anyway (at least compared to San Fran).
Chicken: Where to you buy it?
Sure, there's chicken everywhere. Not hard to find obviously. I'm curious where people buy chicken on this board. There sure seems to be a lot of thread on beef, but I don't see too many on chicken.
I'm curious about the differences between chicken offered in different places. Maybe some some chicken aficionados can give a bit of a rundown on where to find good chicken, and perhaps more importantly from my perspective (since "good" is subjective) what differences there are in flavors and textures of various sources of chicken locally.
thanks
Which LA Area Costco's Sell Prime Beef??
Sorry to bring this up again, but there must have been some confusion. I visited both the Burbank and Van Nuys Costcos. Speaking to the butchers, they told me that neither one of those has ever carried Prime Grade beef, only Choice.
I'm only looking for PRIME grade beef. I.E. USDA Prime, not the traditionally named "prime rib roast".
Reason I want to find this is to buy a Prime grade primal cut to age in my fridge at home.
Again, all costcos carry Choice, but which ones have Prime grade also? thanks
Which LA Area Costco's Sell Prime Beef??
I understand some Costco's are starting to sell Prime Beef instead of just Choice. Not just roasts, but various cuts. I live in Santa Clarita (ours doesn't sell Prime grade). Anybody know which area Costco's sell Prime?
thanks
Comme Ca? You're kidding, Right?
I completely disagree. The meal I had at Sona was incredible. Bland? Wow, I must have been there on a good night or we have very different palates, because the flavors were balanced and the food impeccably prepared. The service was out of this world compared to most of what I've seen in L.A. If I were wealthy, I'd eat there often. I liked it better than Providence.
Top Wine Stores in West LA?
One thing that I do like about K&L though, is that if you order from their website, you can order bottles from any of their locations and they will ship them to Hollywood (no extra cost) where I can pick them up. I usually order a few bottles here and there, and then stop by about once every other month or so to pick them up.
I also disagree with you about Woodland Hills. I'm nothing on their bottom line, yet I've received excellent service and attention there each time. Great people, that really know wine.
