Chicken and Wild Rice Casserole

I like to make a lot of casseroles ahead of time, save them for later and just pull them out and bake 'em when I need something fast and easy. Anyone tried that with this? I was wondering about the rice - if it would still cook as well after having been refrigerated. Thanks!

early dinner friday night in the west village, without a reservation

That is an excellent suggestion, especially on a rainy day like this. Thank you! Someone suggested the New French. I haven't tried it yet, but the reviews are pretty good.

early dinner friday night in the west village, without a reservation

This is pretty last minute, but my mom and I are headed to the village for an early dinner, 5:30 or 6, and it's too late to make a reservation. She's not super-adventurous, so I was going to try walking into Lupa or Arturo's. Any suggestions? Price range, up to $25 an entree or so.

Barbar belgian beer in Manhattan/Brooklyn??

I'm pretty sure Bierkraft in Park Slope carries it. They have before.

Visiting CA hound (ethnic food)

If you find yourself around Washington Square Park around lunch, definitely grab something from the dosa man, the vendor cart at Sullivan. The wait might be long, but totally worth it.

Any suggestions for drinks before dinner in the West Village?

Dove on Thompson has great cocktails at $6 a pop. If you're going all out, do Pegu Club on Houston or Lupa. And, I've never been there, but my boyfriend swears by Angelshare, though that may be out of your way.

coming back to my old hometown, any suggestions?

I left the East Bay a couple years ago to move to NY and I finally have a chance to go visit my old haunts and hopefully a couple new ones. I used to love Cheese Board's pizza, Soi 4 (when it first opened, I don't even know if it's there still), taquerias in Fruitvale, drinks at Albatross, so I guess on the more casual side. Is there anything, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks, coffee, dessert that I should check out? Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Best sweet stout?

I'm not a stout lover, but Young's Double Chocolate is great. Also, this may be unrelated, but it you find a really deep roasty toasty coffee stout, put a scoop of good vanilla ice cream in it and make a float out of it. yum.

Healthy Lunch in Midtown West

Better Burger is great for healthy fast food. It's got great baked fries, high-quality beef, tasty smoothies, good chile, and the soy burger's great. Burger 'n fries place without the grease. On 49th and 9th, kind of a haul, but they deliver. .

Batali goes gluten-free! My dinner at Lupa...

For all you celiacs and people sensitive to wheat, I'm pleased to share that Mario Batali now keeps two kinds of gluten-free pasta on hand at his restaurants. I planned on eating at Otto yesterday (http://glutenguide.blogspot.com/2007/...), but happened to stop in at Lupa late afternoon. I was finally able to eat pasta at his restaurant without a belly-ache, and it was wonderful. My boyfriend got a spelt chitarra with proscuttio and some green and I got a bucatini all' amitriciana with rice pasta. It was incredible, and the staff was so accomodating without making a big production of it. Just spreading the good word. Check it out if you can.

best afternoon drinks around NYU/West Village

McSorley's is great, but maybe a bit far on that ankle. I'd vote for V-Bar or the Dove.

Where can I find specialty baking ingredients?

Can anyone recommend a store to load up on all kinds of baking supplies? I'm experimenting with gluten-free baking, and all those bean flours and gums and starches are hard to find under one roof. Buying in bulk would be ideal. Recommendations for online ordering also welcome.
