birthday lunch at esca, lupa or manzo...which one and why?
I've never had a bad meal at Otto...In my experience, it's been quite delicious...That being said, I don't go at prime time and maybe that makes a difference...I adore the veggies, the pizza, and the gelato...
Good place to dine after the theater, solo
Thanks for the suggestions! Some really good ones...I don't mind taking cabs..Any place
else open late, outside of Times Square, that you think would be worth checking out?
Good place to dine after the theater, solo
Visiting solo and planning to take in some Broadway shows. I don't usually like to eat before the
show and prefer to eat afterwards. Staying in Times Square, but interested in some good places
that serve food after the theater (after 1030pm)...So, to sum up, solo and late dining with good food...Any suggestions?
Post Your Three Favorite Things You ate in Boston in 2011
1. Baked Alaska at Oleana
2. Fried Oysters at B & G
3. Warm Lobster Roll at Neptune's
Best sandwich in boston?
Three cheese grilled cheese at Stephanie's on Newbury...2nd place is the tuna melt at Paramount...I would say hot lobster at Neptunes, but I can't throw that in with a bunch sandwiches, as it belongs in a class all its own...
Sensing goodbye, hello Aragosta!
I KNEW that Sensing would not last...Overpriced and just not at all approachable in so many ways in this day and age...I stayed at this hotel last fall and was perplexed as to what to get for room service as everything was so unappealing to me...I felt like I was stuck in a time warp from the 90s'
One week in Dallas
Honestly, I don't think that Dallas does Italian very well, or should I say, in comparison with other
parts of the country...That said, I'm wondering why you would not want to try our Tex-Mex, which is something that you really cannot get in LA...California Mexican is different from what we offer here..It's certainly not "fancy" in any way, but pretty tasty...I recommend Rafa's or one of the Mi Concina's..(I hesitate to mention any Tex-Mex, as it has always been a bone of contention on the chowboard...) I do recommend S & D, but the chow poster is correct about the size of oysters these days...BBQ is a bit "iffy" in these parts...Too bad you're not around Austin for that particular cuisine...I am certainly not as picky about BBQ as most are, and still find myself happy at Dicky's..(sorry to anyone offended!) Have not been to Fearings but have enjoyed Pyles and there are certainly other places here of note...We do steaks quite well here IMO as well
as a lot of fun and tasty restaurants on Henderson...Enjoy your time here in Dallas!
Where to go for a romantic birthday dinner?
Hammersley's Bistro would be a nice Birthday dinner, though not sure that it would be thought of as "romantic"..Lovely place for a special dinner though...(order the succulent Roast Chicken)
Boston Foodie Advice
Agree that you must get to Neptunes quite early...(You'll be glad that you did)
Do not miss the warm lobster roll...Divine...
My FAVORITE restaurant year after year of visits to Boston, and after having many a wonderful
dining experience, (including Craigie's), is "Oleana's" in Cambridge..
.The four/ five course vegetable/dessert dinner is food for the Gods...(and no, I'm not a vegetarian)...Servers there are amazing as well....For me, there is no better dining experience..
Making my first trip to Boston.
Not sure that you can get " in and out" at Craigie, as they like to take their time with courses...
Which area?
Thanks for the feedback. My research on Montreal so far, made me think that I would probably prefer the Old Montreal area. I don't speak French, and I am hoping to get by on my English...Wondering if any of the menus have any English translations?
Which area?
Can't decide where to stay while in Montreal. Being the foodie that I am, a lot of it depends on where
the best food is! Downtown Montreal or the Old Montreal-Old Port Area?
Help! Need recommendations for short trip with my very senior parents
My Dad is 92 and Mom 83 and both do not walk very far at this point. My Dad is practically deaf and in loud places he cannot hear even with his ear piece. (Though he is still "ready" to go....)
Stairs and steep hills are issues, so we will take cabs and hopefully be dropped off right in front of places. I think that though they are not usually that adventurous, they consider me to be well versed in food/restaurants, and will take my lead...Oh, they actually love Scoma's, though honestly I am trying to get away from there...I have added "Oscar" to my list...just looks like such a great menu...Quiet places are so hard to find, it seems...
Help! Need recommendations for short trip with my very senior parents
Have been to SF, but I can't seem to focus on where I should take my parents while we are there
for 4 days in December. They are "depression-era" , and don't really like to spend $80/piece for a meal, though they can...I am a foodie and want the food to be good. Sounds like a dilemma, eh? They mostly do late lunches or very early dinners.
Fringale looks pretty good for an early dinner, and we will probably do Yank Sing one afternoon. Any other suggestions? I used to love Tadich Grill but last year when I was there it seemed to be slipping.
I thought of Tommy Toys, as their lunch special is a good deal, though not sure if they are good. My Dad especially loves the sourdough bread there, but more and more I notice that many restaurants don't serve it... We are staying in Union Square but taking a cab is no problem. Thanks for any help that you can give me...

The Great Boston Pastry Hunt
If you want the finest and lightest "melt in you mouth" meringues, then you must stop by Beacon Hill Chocolates. They sometimes run out of them, and do not have them every day so call ahead..They are beyond description...what one would hope would be floating around in heaven..My second suggestion is the amazing Baked Alaska that can be had at Oleana Restaurant in Cambridge...There's no better than I have ever tried..Sublime, and with a bit of passion fruit sauce as well.....Mmmmm

Lobster Roll
I agree, these are my two favorites as well...Wonder if you can get one as good and yet not quite as expensive? Probably not....
Hummus/Falafel in DFW area?
I have never seen Falafal at the actual Izmar restaurant...Is this part of their small plate menu?
disintegrating enchiladas
I am having the same problem with sour cream chicken enchiladas that are very delicious, but a bit soggy..Recipes always tell you to coat the bottom of the pan with some of the enchilada sauce, then put in the rolled enchiladas and then cover them with sauce, cheese, and bake...I have been thinking about it, and wondering what it is that they do in Mexican Restaurants with so many different "sauces", for a chicken enchilada...There are those with sour cream sauce, some with mole, some with green chili sauce....I am thinking that it is possible that they have the chicken enchiladas rolled up (yes the corn tortilla is quickly put in hot oil to be pliable before it is filled), but the difference is that maybe the enchilada is put in the oven and heated up and THEN the sauce and the cheese are topped on them and possibly put under a broiler....It is the only way that I can imagine that that theirs are not soggy, and ones made at home are...it's the only thing that could make the difference...Also, the plate of enchiladas in a restaurant always comes to the table sizzling hot...More support for my theory...Well, I am going to try it next time I make enchiladas and if it works, I will report it....
Hummus/Falafel in DFW area?
Yes they do, and I have not been to the one on MacArthur, but if it is the same people that run the other Ali Baba restaurants, both the hummus and falafal are probably about as good as you are going to get in this area...

Help! Too many ripe avocados! Need recipes fast!
Substitute them for the garbanzo beans in your favorite hummus recipe...Amazing!
Use your food processor or blender and zap the avocados with cilantro, a few chopped tomatillos or green tomatoes, garlic, lime, salt, a bit of extra virgin olive oil, then combine it with a small amount of sour cream, and you'll have a great green salsa (great with chips or on tacos)...Whiz them in a blender or processor with some Paul Newman Olive Oil dressing and some Sour Cream and you have a great dressing for your salad greens...Give them away to a friend or family...They'll love you for it...
Your favorite Le Creuset color
My fave is the orange (is that "Flame?"), followed by the Kiwi...All of them are gorgeous...
Hungry Mother
Hmm...I ate there in November and it was delicious....I am from the South, and I know what really good "Southern food" (especially in Charleston, have had some of the best Southern food ever)
When I dined at Mother's, I went in with the idea that it would be their "take" on Southern food, which it was...Was it completely like the Southern Food that I am used to? No...but it was quite good...I also really liked the service...It was certainly not a disappointment....My only problem there was that their credit card machine was on the blink...Otherwise, it was a wonderful dinner....
Any suggestions for the adventruous?
One of the more adventurous meals that I have ever had was "Chef's Whim" dinner at Craigie on Main...My dinner was at 10PM on a Sunday night...Not sure what other hours/nights it is offered...It was a relative "deal" as well, when compared to their other dinner options....Only for the "adventurous eater" though...It was delicious and great fun...Drinks there are very good as well....
Looking for Boston Lunch Spot with Neighborhood Charm
I would suggest any or all of the quaint restaurants that line Charles St. in Beacon Hill...
Whats Your Favorite Salad in DFW
Am fond of all of the salads on the menu at Houstons, but particularly enjoy the "Club".
Still like the "Caesar" at Le Madeline's and enjoy all of their side salads as well...
