Meals near W hotel?

If she likes steak you're close to Smith and Wollesnky's. If you're willing to venture out of the neighborhood a short taxi ride will get you to any of the best places in the city. Check out this thread for some suggestions: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/5954...

What is calorie a measure of?

Agreed!

And yes, Calories DO matter, they are a unit of measurement for Energy. Your body uses a certain amount of Energy for all your activities and anything in excess of that is stored. What form is the storage - fat. So yes, eating 50 bananas a day will make you gain weight (ignoring all the other issues it will probably cause)

Does this belong on the Manhattan board?

I just stopped by the Bleecker Street Theater and talked to Joey there - he confirmed they will be opening next Monday, April 13th!

restaurants that cater

Anyone know restaurants in Manhattan that will cater an event of 100 - 150? I'm not looking for a sit down dinner but rather station-style food.

Any casual NYE suggestions (murray hill)

Thanks for the suggestions, we decided on the tavern area of Gramercy Tavern, its walk-ins only tonight as usual, should be a little crazy but that'll add to the "fun"

Any casual NYE suggestions (murray hill)

I'm looking for some low key suggestions for a new years eve dinner, some place casual yet fun where we can stay through midnight and do a toast. I currently have reservations at a nicer place but not thrilled about a $90 per person price-fixe meal that will be less than stellar.

Suggestions for meet the parents brunch/lunch?

I strongly agree with the Stanton Social suggestion made earlier. I recently had a "meet the parents" lunch there myself. The fact that everything is to share and you have to pick many small plates makes it interesting for eveyone and keeps the awkward silences to a minimum. Its very comfortable, upscale but not too pricey. Its not ethnic but definitely creative.

good Indian for lunch? East Village?

Brick Lane gets mixed reviews but I've been consistently happy with their lunch delivery. Been to Banjara once for dinner and enjoyed it as well.

Looking for good but not pricey pasta

Lamarca on 22nd and 3rd. All entrees are $15 or $16 and they use fresh, home-made pasta and cheese (from the pasta/cheese shop they run next door). I believe they are only open during the week, not weekends.

Inexpensive but tasty celebration dinner for 20 folks?

This isn't in your preferred neighborhood but Uva on 2nd ave b/w 77th and 78th has a cozy downstairs room that you can reserve for large groups. They've got good food, a nice ambiance and isn't too pricey. Don't know if you can BYOB though, they have a pretty good wine selection.

NY 'Hound in town for one night

Was in montreal this past weekend and ate at chez l'epecier (on Saint Paul Est) and really enjoyed it. Its a very nice set up but not overly fancy. Main courses are priced in the 30's.

Have a res at Crispo this weekend - What should I order?

The bone marrow as an appetizer. Also, if you can handle spice get the stuffed peppers.

Any particular neighborhood? There's so much that its hard to suggest something without more specifics. Browse the board a little bit and you're likely to find plenty that fits your criteria. Eleven Madison Park is a popular choice on this board. Whatever you pick, make sure you call ahead for a reservation.

casual date place in soho/west village?

Looking for someplace fun with good food, nice decor, a little trendy and not too expensive in the soho/west village area for a first date. Anywhere from lafayette and west of there between say, Bond and further south. Am open to most cuisines. Thanks!

Mancora on 1st Avenue

Rather than starting a new thread I figured I'd revive an old one. I finally tried Mancora last night and we had a great time. The red sangria was excellent. They even had Chicha Morrado (a non-alcoholic purple corn drink that I tried when I was in Peru). We got the vegetable soup, the ceviche, the tofu saltado, the pork chops and the sutado pescado. Everything was excellent. The tofu was a little bland but was the only vegetarian option (and we had a veggie in the group).

My experience was quite the opposite - good food but very slow, inattentive service. I agree with the fries though, not great, I'd hoped for better.

Mee Noodle Shop on 30th/2nd CLOSED

I've gotten take out from here many times. Walked by yesterday and saw yellow signs posted by the Dept of Health saying the restaurant is closed for operating without a permit. Does that mean its gone forever? I saw them hauling out all their equipment.

mom's birthday tomorrow, where to go?

I did go to Caravan of Dreams and enjoyed it very much. Thanks for the recommendation.

We got the hummus plate and spanish tapas appetizers, both were excellent.

For the main course we got the Paella, the Seitan Quesadilla and the Shiitake Stir fry/Noodles. The quesadilla was the best of the three. The shiitake stir fry was a little too salty. The paella was excellent although faux sausage (Tempeh?) was too mushy.

The service was a little lacking though - all our courses were rushed upon us at once after which we lost track of our multiple servers, having to ask for water three times before we got it.

I enjoyed it though and will go back, Thanks again!
