Oriental Delight Restaurant, Dover, NH
We stopped to peek into Oriental Delight on Central Ave in Dover (436) and to say we were surprised is an understatement.
A large sushi bar with new sushi cases and many bar seats and tables is to the left of the entrance (to the right is the Chinese restaurant area).
The cases were stocked with many types of fish. The sushi chef greeted us warmly and immediately offered to answer any questions.
We looked through the fairly creative sushi menu-finding conventional (Hamachi, yellowtail) as well as new rolls (Futomaki Special, eel, avocado, cucumber, gourd, burdock root, oshinko, inari, and tobiko).
The sushi chef is happy to take requests and told us that many of their specials are actually the result of people's special requests that became popular with other diners-social sushi!
The sushi was fantastic, fresh and tasty. The atmosphere was also great. This sushi spot is not too be missed if you happen to be passing near Dover, NH.
McMenemy's Pub
McMenemy's is pitching itself as an Irish Pub with a traditional Irish restaurant. We stopped in around 6:30 on a Saturday night. There is a dining room on the lower floor or a bar and dining area upstairs. We opted for upstairs as the lower floor seemed very quiet and empty.
I should note that the bar is up a steep and narrow set of stairs so if you have difficulty climbing then you might need to stay down in the lower dining area.
Upstairs was decorated nicely with autumn decor, about 10 tables and a well lit bar.
The menu was very disappointing in that the most Irish item was the bangers and mash. There was a Guinness Beef Stew more for show than for anything else as it had little Guinness taste and even less beef (about one chunk for the entire bowl).
The fish and chips were downright poor at best (the "chips" were thick potato chip slices deep fried and burned).
The bangers were ok but tough on the outside and very obviously cooked far in advance. The mash was straight from the local senior center in terms of taste and texture.
To top the experience off the waitstaff was 110% cold and indifferent. They wanted everyone out as quickly as possible. We had the bartender as our waitress and she was pretty awful.

Anniversary Dinner in or around Portsmouth, NH
Hi Chowhounds, we are a couple of foodies on a budget (less than $25 per person for food) with an anniversary this weekend.
We have been to many of the usual Portsmouth places but would love some recommendations for something nice for a quiet but special dinner and some entertainment.
Thanks in advance for your ideas.
Common Man Restaurant, Portsmouth
Thanks for clarifying the name. I have updated my post. It seems as though some of the menu items are called "Uncommon Man" so that must have stuck in my head as the actual name! Thanks again.
Common Man Restaurant, Portsmouth
We visited Common Man in Portsmouth on Saturday night. The menu looked inviting and down to earth for a coldish autumn evening. Choices for everyone from an Oscar-style Hangar steak to lobster mac and cheese. Make reservations but get there early enough to enjoy the complimentary cheese and cracker station in the lounge.
The lounge and the bar are lively and warm and offer full service as well as starters/salads.
Both the house merlot ($5.00) and the escargot ($6.00) were pleasant surprises.
Don't be surprised when your check arrives with hand-chipped pieces of white chocolate!
Best SF Dim Sum for Dim Sum Virgin Please?
Closer would be awesome, we are newbies and figured we would have to go to SF for sure.
Best SF Dim Sum for Dim Sum Virgin Please?
Thanks Dave. Somewhere with parking is ideal as we are bringing the kiddles along and there are four of them. otherwise no pref on neighborhood as we are coming from the East bay to begin with so prepared to drive a bit.
Best SF Dim Sum for Dim Sum Virgin Please?
Heading for Dim Sum this Sunday in SF after convincing hubby that it's good. :-)
I need a Dim Sum that is very welcoming for non-Chinese and that has recognizable menu items enough to feed us virgins.
Please help!
Yummy Grocery Delivery?
We use both and they are fine. Avoid produce or basically any food that someone has to 'choose' for you from a selection (meats etc.). The person choosing might not have your perfect bananas at the very top of their priority list that day :-).
Favorite Pie @ Pie n' Burger (Pasadena)
We had the banana off the back off the NYT article voting it the best but have to say I wasn't floored. The great wait staff and an amazing Cobb Salad made up for it weirdly enough.. The fries that came with the kids plates were fantastic also.
Also, lots of people were eating things that were not on the menu, i.e. pancakes at 2PM etc. I think there is a secret handshake or something to get the "insider" menu.
Boston Style Roast Beef Sandwiches (w/ 'sauce'!)
Hey there,
Displaced Bostonian (who loves Cali) misses Boston style roast beef sandwiches (with 'sauce' and cheese) badly.
Back on the North Shore (Salem etc.) we would get these on a sesame bun, always fresh, with a slice of American and this sauce that I still can't really describe, sort of tart but a bit sweet and reddish brown.
Bun is always toasted, roast beef is sliced very thin and rare. Over the top would be the deep fried pizza roll to go with it....
Anyone have any ideas of places here in LA that might have something similar? Willing to drive a bit to get to one...
Thanks all!
yamashiro
thanks Diana. The doc says to get fish at least once per week so this will meet my fish quota. I am going to see if hubby wants the Kobe beef as that is supposed to be good (???). Any others that have been recently and had any WOW experences or what to get suggestions?
yamashiro
Hey all,
I have a gift card for yamashiro, have read that the food is mediocre at best (???) so not overly concerned about the price as I am not really paying for it. Want to just make the best of it and order something that is good. Avoiding red meat and sushi as we are pregnant. Any ideas?
Also, can I sneak in with a dressy top and neat jeans or is that too cas?
