Need to buy/rent large ice cream maker or kitchen with industrial ice cream maker

Hey there Chowhound,

I'm helping my friend, an Oakland ice cream maker, expand his business. Right now we're looking into purchasing or renting a large batch ice cream maker on the cheap (used is certainly an option). Other than that, we'd also be interested in renting out a kitchen that has a large ice cream maker available for use.

Thanks in advance!

Help me, Olympia Jane! :-)

I'm going to disagree with that. Brewery City Pizza is quite good and Vic's Pizza is great.

I'll conceded that Brewery City Pizza is sometimes greasy but the menu is very extensive and extremely satisfying. They also make some fantastic (and affordable) calzones.

Compared to the amazing pizza of the Bay Area that I'm used to (Zachary's, Escape to New York, Fat Slice, Blondie's, The Cheeseboard etc.) Olympia is lacking but that does not mean that good pizza can't be found

I don't know if this was true back in 2003 but it certainly isn't now. I just finished my first year at Evergreen and I can tell you that The Greenery is vile. I ate there at the beginning of the year to use up my block meals and ended up switching meal plans because I was tired of feeling horribly sick and disgusted. Evergreen's catering service Aramark produces slop for schools and prisons all over the country and their food is far from edible. There are a few dishes which are quite decent, including BBQ and beer battered fish but they're rarely served and in my experience the online menu has only matched up with the actual menu a sparse handful of times, forcing patrons to visit the Greenery to see what is being served. The best thing the Greenery has to offer is a self-serve softserve icecream machine with vanilla and orange. If you just want to pay $8+ for unlimited softserve then feel free but you'd be better off investing that money in some ingredients to cook yourself a decent meal.

Some of the food in the Market one floor above the Greenery is decent (exceptionally greasy breakfast sandwiches, lasagna, sometimes the pizza) but for the most part the cuisine consists of bagels and snacks that one could easily find in many other places without having to drive out to the woods and tolerate the Greeners.

Dropped ChowChild off @ Evergreen in Olympia last weekend

Oh and one more thing...

I want to eat my mascot.

Does anyone know where I could have a decent geoduck dinner?

So far I am loving this school. I love the setting and the people (despite their vegan tendencies).

I tried The Reef yesterday and it was pretty good. Certainly not great but my fried chicken was tasty and the gravy was rich. Atmosphere was a little... meh. The colors were drab and the music was poor (Coldplay... blech) and the bathroom was in very poor condition (no mirror and no door for the stall).

I was AMAZED with the size of grocery stores here. Top Foods blew my mind... it's about the size of two Safeways that one would find in the Bay Area... possibly even larger. I ended up stocking my room with sharp cheddar, sourdough and goat cheese.

Bay Area Seafood

I've also heard good things about Sea Salt in Berkeley... How does it compare?

Bay Area Seafood

So I'm turning 19 on the 30th and my parents offered to take me out to dinner to celebrate and as a sort of last hurrah before I leave for college.

I've been craving some good seafood... particularly oysters and other shellfish. What would you recommend? My parents were thinking of going to Hog Island. I'd be fine with that so I could get their clam chowder and a big mess of oysters.

Smoked Duck Pizza with Hoisin

GREAT recipe. I used more hoisin and cheese and I used freshly chopped chives instead of cilantro and it came out wonderful.

Also, instead of using a premade crust I recommend going to Trader Joe's and buying a couple bags of their pizza dough and making it yourself.

Slider recipes

So my friends and I were going to have an eating contest and we decided on sliders. Unfortunately we live in California so there are no White Castles or anything of the sort. We could go for the frozen ones but we'd rather cook them ourselves. Anyways so I've been searching for a recipe and the ones I find online all seem to call for "beef baby food."

Anyone have a recipe?

Anyone have a good lamb curry recipe?

I've been looking for a good recipe but most of the things I have found are far from authentic. Could someone please help me out?
