NYPORK's Profile
In Seattle for the first time with a baby!
As a father of a one year old and a restaurant professional, I say as long as you kid is well behaved any restaurant should be a go. I'm not recommending taking them to Canlis or the few(and Ii mean few) other uber fine dining establishments, but in general this city is pretty casual, call your choice ahead of time and you will be suprised how many folks do have high chairs. Good luck
Eclectic Tasting Menus in Seattle?
Sadly I have no restaurants to report to you that follow that criteria, if you find some please tell me. However I do suggest Revel, Spinasse and Bisato for some good meals in Seattle

Ex NYer in town for a night with 8 month old, need a great meal
I was just looking for a simple answer, like "here's my top five" hence my saying anything goes.
Ex NYer in town for a night with 8 month old, need a great meal
Moved to the culinary wasteland of Seattle several years a go and need a great place to eat. Anything goes as long as Idon't need a tie. What do you guys have for me?
Anyone eaten at Gaudi near U Village? Opinions please?
We had some wine and tapas about a year ago. It was Ok, havent had a full meal there yet, but the chef is from Spain and they were very nice.
Menu Item - 6 pack of beer for the crew?
My thing is why don't the owners of the restaurant show them appreciation and buy them the beer and pay them more if they are so proud of their service.
Spinasse vs. Cafe Juanita
Spinasse hands down.

LA Hound Coming on Short Notice -- Help!
I've lived here for about 2 years now from NYC and in the restaurant business and would have to say not much of a wow factor here. Very dissapointing overall but I will say there are some solid selections on your list.
I would suggest
Spinasse
Revel/Joule
Book Bindery
Paseo
I would totally skip all Tom Douglas and Ethan Stowell restaurants. Mediocrity with good press for some reason sums them up.
Canlis is great
Also check out Poppy, alittle different and solid preparations.

Staple and Fancy question -- and more
I think you would be wasing your time and money going to that place if you put such restrictions on your diets. it is a chef driven menu and I feel like you would be dissapointed with any dish that needs to be augmented.
Lobster in Seattle for an ex-New Englander?

Where can one purchase hog casings?
I buy mineonline at sausagemaker.com. They offer a scrap pack that has about 50ft for about 20 bucks. It's been my experince that everywhere that sells retail, overcharges. However as a chef, I paid meat suppliers up to $50 bucks for a hank. The stuff is getting more expensive across the board.
New York hound looking for recommendations in Seattle
Being in Seattle a fresh year and a half from NYC, Iet me first tell you, lower your expectations. Most of what all has been recommended are generally good solid restaurants, but I feel alot could be alittle more inventive and some of the more popular, Sitka and Spruce, How to Cook a Wolf are just plain blah(I must say Ii havent been to either since we first got here and know there have been staff changes with both, so maybe they stepped it up, but the first impression ruined it.. Some that have stood out for me are Joule, Poppy and Spinasse. Restaurant Zoe is tired, kind of like Union Square Cafe in NYC. Salumi, good meat, but is a waste of time unless there is no line. Lockspot is good for Fish and Chips, and if you're in that neighborhood check out Ocho in Ballard for fun tapas. Avoid, I repeat avoid Elemental, the owner is a tool and the food is mediocre at best. And if you want to stick with the true vibe of Seattle, stick with the big guys Chinooks, Elliots, ffod is average but to me that is what portrays the local scene the best.

At first Ibelieved it, such a great parody on the overzealous locavore community
I need to be wowed
Thanks for the replies. Spinasse is a favorite. Joule is on my list to try. I've had mixed reviews on Crush but I'll give it a try.

NYC Folks looking for cheap eats in Seattle
Thanks folks, you have come through once again, these lists are awesome. I can't wait to move there and try them all!
Barbecue in Manhattan for a group
I second Daisy Mays, my wife had a party there for me and the food was awesome, laid back atmosphere and quite affordable. While I like Blue Smoke, I don't think it is cheap for large groups.
NYC Folks looking for cheap eats in Seattle
My wife and I are going to be house hunting in a couple of weeks and looking for cheap good eats in the Seattle area. No area is out of the question. What we are looking for is nice cheap ethnic eats, burger joints, fish shacks and any kind of taco truck or street food(do you guys have that?). Basically we did the higher end restaurants the last time we visited and this time we want to explore the cheaper options. Thanks
BYOB in downtown manhattan
Just went to La Sirene last night, the food was good and the atmosphere was nice, but super pricey,2 apps, 2 entrees and one dessert with tip for two people the bill was $120. If your goal for a byo is to save money, I don't recommend this place and there are alot better places to spend that kind of money that would include the purchase of wine.
