under-used treasure or garbage? what ingredient do you think people are wasting? We loved cabbage cores as kids! Just raw crunchy snacks. |

under-used treasure or garbage? what ingredient do you think people are wasting? That sounds so good! My mama saved bacon (and goose and duck) fat in a special brown crockery dish that was kept in the fridge. After school or sports we would come home and snack on it. Smeared it on sourdough bread, added a sprinking of salt... or thin slices of sweet onion.... |

I just happened to see this place when driving by yesterday at lunch time. Stopped in and got the following, to go: (1) Hummus, which was creamy and lemony, not garlicky thank goodness; (2) broccolini, which was fine; and (3) kale salad. I bought the largest size kale, after confirming it was vegan (like who does raw kale non-vegan, anyway? Only vegans eat raw kale.) Took a bit of my kale salad this morning. There is yogurt in the dressing. So wrong. |

Fraiche in Culver City has great food and an excellent wine list. My PTA mom friends and I enjoy the more casual option of the outside lounge area (low sofas and tables) as there is a terrific bar dinner menu that includes moules frites, lamb bolognese and fruit de mer platters. However, I have not been there since the chef left, so am not sure if it is still as wonderful as it was last summer. |

Best Birthday Cake in West L.A. Thank goodness for this thread. I forgot to order my son's birthday cake - his party is in three days and he wants Star Wars. What kind of mother forgets to order a cake for her son's sixth birthday party? But I thought to check the boards and you came through! I called Angel Maid Bakery, and will have a Darth Vader cake by Sunday. Thanks everyone! I will let you know how it was. |
