A16 or Delfina for pizza
Yikes! Both of your choices are overpriced and over hyped. Try Goat Hill in the Potrero!

Village Pub or Martin's Pub West
In regards to Martin's West. The beer selection is wonderful. I've had lunch here twice, and both times have been, well, a C+ as far as the food itself goes. Some of the fish in the fish and chips seemed like it was pre frozen, tough and rubbery. The menu seems interesting enough, but in my estimation, it lacked the follow through. My favorite night in Redwood City is to have a drink at Martin's West, and have dinner around the corner at Donato.
Where to get beignets in San Mateo or near by?
The beignets were the only edible part of the meal though!!

Whole wheat pizza joints in the City or on the Peninsula?
Aldo's in San Mateo does a pretty good version, but does anyone here have some suggestions to more places that bake with a whole wheat crust?
TIA

San Mateo Taquerias
Just read your post on Chowhound in regards to taquerias in San Mateo. I was born and still live in San Mateo, and all I can tell you is, wherever you and your friend go, tell the order person not to add any more salt to your selection. My wife and I have our favorites, among them Pancho Villa, mainly because the place is REALLY clean. But they do tend to over-salt just about everything on their menu. The guacamole and whole beans tend to be the saltiest.

Back to Martins West Pub and SF Beer Week
Fish and Chips here are nothing special. The sticky toffee pudding is the only thing here I would come back for. Now, if you REALLY want some fine food, order the BIGOLI E CODA pasta at Donato's, just around the corner. Now that's a meal worth driving to Redwood City for.

San Mateo restuarants
I was born, and I still live in San Mateo. I would say Donato, in Redwood City is a choice you might look into. First rate food, and upscale in terms of the Peninsula. Here is the link:

Wineries in Russian River
Ironhorse, just outside of Sebastopol is our favorite. Fantastic wines, and free tasting, if you have a Visa Signature card!

Quiet outside tasting area, with a great valley view.

H&H frozen bagels/bialys on peninsula?
H & H??? Yikes. Might as well get the old Sara Lee frozen bagels, er, I mean rolls.
Try Izzy's Brooklyn Bagels, in Palo Alto.

Wood Fire Woodie Pizza San Mateo
Just got a whole Hang Ten to go. $18.00 gets you about 8-10 big slices, depending on how you have it sliced. Very fresh ingredients, and a nice thin crust, if you like it that way. Pat and Mariah are the husband and wife owners, who really go out of their way to make it a very friendly experience. As for comparing the pie to nearby Speederia in San Carlos, it's like comparing apples and oranges. If you are in the area and have a hankering for some pie, I would stop by!

Millbrae: Dumpling Dumpling?
It's a 1/4 block north of Hong Kong Flower, next to the Union 76 gas station. If I want great dumplings, I just go to Hong Kong Flower!

Help me satisfy my night-time sweet tooth: chocolate cake to go in the East Bay?
I second the Draeger's chocolate cake. Best of all, you get the real chocolate flavor that is not too sweet, and is moist enough to go down so easily with a glass of milk, or your favorite bev. I think I'll pick up a slice to go later!

Prepared Pie Crusts - Where can I find the best?
Try Whole Paycheck, er, I mean Whole Foods. They have a GREAT whole wheat pie crust in the frozen food isle, two to a pack. Healthy, but buttery too.

Peninsula: not too sweet birthday cake?
Although not very light, the best bet for a true chocolate cake, that is NOT too sweet, is the chocolate fudge cake at Draegers Supermarket in downtown San Mateo. They even have small slices you can buy in the bakery area, so you can try it out to make sure it's the one for you. Also, The Cakery on Burlingame Avenue makes a nice mango mousse cake that is not too sweet. http://www.burlingamecakery.com/
Good luck!

The Refuge in San Carlos: REAL Pastrami and more!
Hello Shane,
I live about 3 miles from Refuge, but I just cannot see paying that much for a glass of wine and a tiny sandwich.
Miller's on the other hand brings in their pastrami, bagels and most of the other goodies from back east, so when I say "real" pastrami, I am referring to what you would find in an east coast deli. This may or may not be what you are looking for.
Good hunting!

Redwood City Lunch - Reasonably Priced
I second Restaurante Casablanca. Great service, usually by the owner, and fantastic food. Also, just down the block, on the corner is a great French cafe with nice lunches also.

chocolate cake - palo alto area
How about Draegers :
http://www.draegers.com/
Maybe not flourless, but they make a fantastic chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. My wife and I ordered one for my birthday party a short time ago, and it was the hit of the party. The exact name for this fantastic cake is simply "chocolate fudge cake".
