KC-Bristol Seafood and Grill Wine Dinner?

I know a little bit- on occasion they do the wine dinners at Bristol and j gilberts (owned by the same guys) and by all accounts they are good menus and a good value. j gilberts is in our neighborhood so we are attending the one there this sunday (plus we liked the look of that menu a little bit more....more red meat, more red wines) You'd need to check but I believe the menu is not just usual Bristol items paired with wine. A 5 course dinner, paired with wine for $60-$70 is pretty good deal when the food and wine are good

KC Steak Specials - In Search of Meat on a Budget

personally I'm a bit leary of discount / low cost beef so we spend our steak money at Amy's Meats (amysmeats.com). Quality is outstanding and she's very happy to tell you about the beef, how it was raised, etc. And its local. The ribeye and strip steaks we purchase from her are delicious

Fall Foods in KC?

I had lunch this afternoon at Rm 39 and they had a number of fall menu items- including the potato and vegetable hash (w/ 2 perfect eggs by the way) that I refused to share. There was also a bowl of beef stew at the table (also not shared) that was described as "perfect". It looked delicious from where I sat and it had Fall written all over it.

Anthony Bourdain in Kansas City

I think they'll have a pretty full house for the talk...and the meet and greet is sold out (300 tickets went fast for that)

He's in Lincoln, NE the next evening at the Lied Center (Tix are $10)

Blanc Burgers + Bottles- KC

I have to agree with KatieNell, I like them both for what they are. And so what if they're not "completely original" - you're cape and mask are rip-offs too. Its the food that is supposed to matter and they both make a fine burger.

Bourdain in KC

My feelings aren't hurt Pizza Snob, i can agree with you to some extent. But the question was where in town to take the guy- I wasn't looking for a piss and moan about the lack of a slice you'd eat.

Bourdain in KC

well I agree with you that pork might be a way to his heart..like the chicharon at Bichelmeyers- but the rest of your poo pooing is disheartening. I'd like to think he can appreciate regional food for what it is.

Anthony Bourdain is coming to town and we all know what he likes and doesn't- so if you got to take him out for a bite to eat in KC where would you take him?

Bizzare foods in KC

you might try Pine & Bamboo (10915 Shawnee Mission Pkwy) for the authentic dim sum, ask for the full menu. they have chicken feet dim sum and a few other oddities. Bichelmeyers Meat Mkt (KCK) has prepared food on Saturday mornings. I can't say they'll have what your looking for, but the chicharon is great.
I posted the thread below and you can see it didn't get a lot of response.

Justus Drugstore Trouble (KC)

The thing no one is talking about is "how did they like the food?" its the meal/service that makes that place what it is...not who's sitting at the table next to you or if the chef is in some magazine.

5 clams says they have a new concept/place in the city in the next 18months and the northland location will still be running.

KC - Blue Grotto anyone?

I haven't been yet, but it was discussed on last fridays Walt Bodine show on KCUR- you can listen online. Not stellar reviews, not awful either. Reviewers commented on how loud the place is. It looks great from the street.

BBQ Shack - Paola

while you're down in Paola you might as well try two places...do a little google research on a place named Hillsdale Bank Bar BQ- limited open hours (fri thru sunday) but the reviews appear very favorable

Summer treats in Kansas City

I'm looking for a few places to try that have special desserts or treats. Small, roadside, out-of-the-way places that serve a unique treat- we tried Fresher than Fresh snowcones last week and it was delightful! (handmade, gourmet, all natural snowcones out of a 1950's trailer!) I want to find more interesting places to have that evening summer treat- any suggestions?
